Witchs' Bibles, Wiccan Teachers for Schools?
The Board of Education of Brunswick County, North Carolina, may have bitten off more than it could chew when it decided to allow "religious groups" to hand out "religious literature" to students.

if my school started giving away these books then I'd be thrilled. If the school can legally give out Bibles than why not metaphysical ones also? In fact, I think that they should try it atleast. It might be a chance for people to read and discover that all of the stereotypes out there about Wiccans are nothing but B.S.

If only that were true... Unfortunately, because of the way that Wiccans are portrayed in the media and by the general public, I think that we have got a long wait ahead of us before we will be accepted. |

What, exactly would be the consensus as to what the standardized Wiccan bible would be? If there was to be 1 book handed out, would all practicing Wiccans and scholars agree on which one it should be? Is it available for everyone for next to no cost as the Bible is? That would help a lot of people to be exposed and educated that might not be if they had to pay 20.00 for one and have no idea what to pick. I, for 1 have many of the primary books of differing religious options, Book of Mormon, Bible, Koran, etc., simply because I learning about many things.

i cannot believe what this world is coming to. there is a reason the main religious book involved with these schools is the bible. it is simply because our christian god is the holiest of all. he is a father, neighbor, companion, and friend, and i can't wait until he comes to earth so he can show you all his wonders and holiness which is why i stand that the only religious book that should be portrayed in the eyes of our children is the one and only HOLY BIBLE.

I suppose that others beliefs are irrelevent, sounds much like Constantine is on the move again. if you are so secure in your faith why are you afraid of others beliefs? We all have a choice and can only be held accountable for our own and not others. We do not believe in converting others by force and hatred unlike the past of christians and Catholics. dont worry, you are safe from harm. |

There is nothing wrong with giving out religious material. The only problem is that the only thing given out is the Bible, not the Koran, etc. There needs to be a variety of material available to students and it left up to them to decide which religion they want to follow. They shouldn't be given only one choice. Unfortunately you do not have an open mind about other religions, therefore are unable to understand the types of problems Wiccans have with Christians such as yourself. Our religion has a bad name and will contiue as such until people like yourself relize that there are other options out there. I live in NC and you know as well as I do that we are considered the 'Bible Belt'. People here think there is only one religion and if you do not agree with what their beleifs are then you must worship the devil. I deal with many different religions at work everyday and see the Christians having a very hard time when they take care of a patient with a religion that is different from theirs. Have an open mind for once in your life Charleton and quit thinking everyother religion outside of yours is bad. |

Witchcraft is directly spoken against in the Holy Bible, called rebellion and an abomination to God. The Bible also states, however, to love your neighbor as yourself, regardless of their beliefs. It is a pity if people are finding themselves unloved or unaccepted by Christians. That is not what Christ teaches. I myself looked into many beliefs as a teen, and at age 24 became a Christian. I do not agree with Wicca, but I do not hate those who practice it, or feel that I somehow am better than they. It's foolish to try and silence anyone. That's not going to make you many friends. It's instead going to create stereotypes, as I see some of you Wiccans have complained of. Stereotypes of any kind are never factual, but rather overly dramatic opinions. All pitbulls and rottweilers are mean, all Italians have mob ties, all Polish people are stupid, all Irish are drunks, all Mexicans need a greencard, all Jews are cheap, all Middle Easterns are terrorists, all overweight people are lazy, all men are pigs, all women are bad drivers, all Wiccans are evil, all Christians are narrow-minded, etc., etc. Foolishness, not fact. Human beings individually are much more complex, much deeper, than a label. |

The Holy Bible lists alot of things that are considered rebeillion and an abomination that Christians around the world still do. So that really isn't the issue. The Issue is what people claim to be. Wiccans don't claim to be Christian. And for some reason, that bothers some Christian people. It shouldn't make a difference. Some people are raised in the Christian faith, don't follow the practice, but still claim to be "Christian", cause that is what they relate to being. Those folks are NO DIFFERENT in the Christian religan as those that follow other religans. Actualy, worse. Cause they don't follow ANY religan. Not even claiming to be atheist. Being a Christian my self and spending time on the Wiccan forms, I can see why the Wiccans complain about the Christians being "narrow minded." I have yet seen any Wiccian try to silence a Christian. Far from it. However, I constantly see it going the other direction. In places where everyone should be 'equal' under the sun, If the Wiccians were to try to share the equality, the Christians would totaly have a cow. So the only other way to have equality.. is for neither to show their religan publicly. THIS is being seen as trying to take God out of everything and attacking the Christian faith. It's part of our 'faith' to consider every faith but our own as following the Devil. Since we are at war against the Devil, we try to silence the Devil at every turn. Which is why Chrisitans ONLY want Christian prayers said in public places. We consider all others as prayers to the Devil. That is OUR belief, not theirs. They don't have a problem with our prayers to God. They have a problem with not being allowed to include their prayers. Who has been being silenced all these years? Not Christians. I've never had to indure what a Wiccian has. |

teaching my son the truths about witchcraft in school would be a wonderful thing, however, its never going to happen, all we can do is request that our children are allowed to choose not to take part in christian prayer every day. rather than have my son excluded from part of his schooling, it would be far better if he where able to understand all religions and make his own informed choice, knowing he would have the full support of his family and community whatever his decission.

Such open teaching would put to rest alot of myths. Maybe less hatred and fear would be around. However, that same FEAR is what is being used to keep people from looking out side their own religus up-breaking. Which is why it will not happen.
Everyone wants others to learn their faith. But they don't want other faiths to also be allowed such 'rights.' Nor do they want their kids to know about those other choices out of fear they will CHOOSE them. No one seems to have a problem with their own faith being taught in school. Imagine that! But no one elses. Woops! Which is why it will never happen for the young folks. Sad, really. |

Ain't that the truth. Where Religious Studies is concerned all established religions should be covered some time during a child's school life. How else is religious intolerence going to be tackled.
Don't teach them about it but expect them to understand.. ain't gonna work. |

It seems like a forward step in equality but I have a bad feeling about this. I have a feeling we may have a Pandora's Box with this. Many of use complain about these Bibles being handed out and when the opportunity is give we do the same thing. This may be a step in a direction we need to go but this is going to get ugly before it gets better and we better make sure we as the pagan communality is ready for a fight.

I agree. This has the potential to get very, VERY bad before any semblance of understanding occurs. Personally, I don't think religious literature should be handed out in public school at all. They really should have thought better before allowing all of this. It could be the pentacle display all over again. |

I agree with you. It sounds like a great idea. But I think a lot of children will get hurt because of this. Whether it being harassment or physical. I could not put our children into a situation like that.
