Micronesians In America - "How Come? Mushroom Farmers, DUI, And Statutory Rape

This news is titled Micronesians in America? this upsets me..why not Chuukese in America?? Well i am a Micronesian and every Micronesian knows that chuuk is the worst state in Micronesia..they are giving bad names to good Micronesian islands..mostly its neighbors in Federated States of Micronesia, like Ponape, Yap, and Kosrae. It's true, chuukese are violent people becouse of their culture..but u can't blame it on Micronesians.

I totally agreed with what you said. I also think that since we are people of small nation, we must conduct ourselves in a manner that is civil and just. We can not advocate cultural awareness, while on the other hand, acting incoherently inhumane. It is true our land is unknown to the rest of the industrialized world, but we can make it known in many ways. True America is a Land of Freedom, but that freedom does not warrant our own interpretations. After all, we are in a simplest sense, Visitors. We must abide by their laws and ways of life, and yet still belief in our customs and cultures. It is what makes all of us unique and dynamic. Think of this Land as a car lease to you to use, you can drive it, but it really not yours. When you wreck it, you will pay all the damages. And there are other implications that will come along. All this can happen if you are a reckless driver and a snobbish person. However, if you take care of that piece of machinery, you can rest assure that your reputation will go a long way. This analogy may not be precisely accurate, but it simplifies how to represent our Land, our nation in a prosperous way. Let us not contradict the fact that our forefathers have done in the name of "togetherness". So my fellow countrymen, I am humbly asking that you think twice before you intend to act in a manner subject to disgrace and inhumane.

I agree with Micro Boy, Micronesians should not be judged by how Chuukese carry themselves in the States. It is sad to say that Chuukese are ignorant and liked to be called "Barbarians"; thinking that being tough will get them where they want to be. Guess what Chuukitas, this is America, where you have to get an education to be a leader. Killing or fighting will only get you in prison and not to mention it will ruin the name of your country (Micronesia) and the good people of Pohnpei, Korsae and Yap. I would like to add to those who are not doing anything to better their lives and their Island, please go back home and live as you wish, don't stay and bring us down with you.

I can sympathize with you because you are probably offended by the negative label but Micronesian do not what to be labeled as bad people either. I guess that is why Micronesian are venting their disappointment. Some are trying to disassociated themselves from the Chuukese. You are trying to defend their actions. By your action (words) I can imagine that you are a nice person. I have known a lot of good and decent Chuukeese who get offended by the label but there are some Chuukese who live by the “acting tough” mentality who don't give a damn about anyone else. Too many of them to make the label stick. You should not compare the Chuukese to the worst among us and conclude that the pastor is not a thief because he is only drawing welfare money dishonestly; he is only a lier. Will you be proud to be called a lier instead of a thief? At the same token, we can't say that the pastor is a good person; he is only doing bad things.
This is only a response to your post because I think you are a nice Chuukese. I hope that those who live barbarically will try to “turn the canoe around” and start working toward shedding the negative label stamped on the Chuukese and/or Micronesian at large.

Oh if you think you hae a problem here with illegals try living in Los Angeles where you have to speak spanish just to order at McDonalds. I've been in the area and seen these people I didn't think it was bad but then again I am living in a place where no one speaks English or feel like they have to, you can't get a low paying job cause they have all their family members already. I disagree with you. Not all chuukese are what you called "bad people or not smart people". There are some of us just like you came to these places t better our self and become somebody or someone in the future. We work as hard as you are or maybe even harder than you. The reason this is happening in Hawaii is because the policies are written that way. People are just doing what the government allows. Gotta stay in a homeless shelter to get in the priority list for housing. So, that's what people do. That's what the government says--they even TELL people this at the department of housing and urban development--"go stay in an emergency shelter and you'll be on the priority list" and get housing in less than a year.
