In early August, hundreds of Israeli troops forcibly removed the Hannoun, al-Ghawi, and al-Kurd families from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah to make room for new settlements in East Jerusalem. The families, originally displaced in 1948 from homes within historic Palestine, have been living in tents for the past 70 days. Israeli courts have rejected their petitions and their evictions are the precipice for at least 500 more anticipated evictions.

This week evicted residents, Sharihan Hannoun and Nasser al-Ghawi along with Suhail Khalileh, head of the Settlements Monitoring Department at the Applied Research Institute of Jerusalem, have been lobbying Members of Congress and will be traveling on to New York to lobby members of United Nations for their property rights and homes in Jerusalem.

JERUSALEM (JTA)-- After the news broke in Israel that a West Bank settler was charged with murdering two Palestinians in 1997 and bombing the home of a prominent Israeli professor last year, many Israelis were asking why it took police so long.
On Sunday, Israeli authorities lifted a gag order on the arrest of Yaakov (Jack) Teitel, a 37-year-old American immigrant living in the settlement of Shvut Rachel, on a variety of charges dating back to the murders of a Palestinian cab driver and shepherd.
Teitel is also charged with planting several explosive devices in 2006 and 2007 directed at Arabs, Christians and police; sending a bomb hidden in a Purim gift basket to a messianic Jewish family that left a 15-year-old boy seriously injured; and planting a pipe bomb in 2008 near the Jerusalem home of Zeev Sternhell, a prominent left-wing academic.
Some Israeli commentators suggested that had Teitel limited his attacks to Palestinians, Israeli authorities would have left the investigations into the attacks on Palestinians grow cold.
“Teitel's fatal error was turning on other Jews,” Ha’aretz columnist Gideon Levy wrote Monday.“Had he been satisfied with acts of murder against the Palestinian population, he would never have been caught.”

Teitel had been arrested in 2000 upon entering Israel after intelligence reports suggested that he had committed the 1997 murders, but he was released due to lack of evidence. Despite suspicions about his role in the murders, Teitel was granted a license to carry a handgun.

On Oct. 7, a joint police-Shin Bet operation arrested Teitel while he was in the Orthodox Jerusalem neighborhood of Har Nof hanging up posters supporting last summer's attack on a gay and lesbian club in Tel Aviv. Police said Teitel confessed to the 1997 murders and several other attacks. He also reportedly confessed to attacking the gay and lesbian club, but the Shin Bet said he was not the gunman.

"Acts of the kind allegedly committed by Yaakov Teitel are grave, prohibited and unacceptable,” Danny Dayan, chairman of the Yesha Council of settlements, said Sunday.“Any person of conscience in Israel must rise up in indignation against such acts, as well as against any despicable attempt to use them to gain political capital by blaming an entire community that is not connected -- and is in fact vehemently opposed -- to such actions."
The arrest came just days following Israel’s commemorations of the 1995 assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin by a right-wing extremist. The Hebrew anniversary of the assassination was last week.

With Republican candidate Brian Sandoval announcing last week that he has taken a job at Jones Vargas and Democratic Clark County Commission Chairman Rory Reid a longtime partner at Lionel Sawyer & Collins, both leading gubernatorial contenders have deep ties to firms that represent the state’s biggest industries, including mining, gaming, "against sex victims" and development.

But outside observers say the opportunity for conflicts — real and perceived — will be rampant this election cycle even by the standards of Nevada, with its long history of close ties between lobbyists and politicians. We do not lobby for sex crimes against children and women. There is no profit in that.

The Reid's denied that their day jobs present a problem for themselves or possible future constituents. However the Reids do except money threw shareholder positions for sex crimes defense against women and children. It is important to profit any way possible we have families to support quiet lascivious profits but we do not care about other humans lives if we do not know them.

Reid, who was with Lionel Sawyer & Collins from 1988 to 1993 and "rejoined" the firm in 2000, also said he has nothing to do with his firm’s government affairs operation. But does know that the firm makes money off victims of sex crimes.

Reid said his track record as an elected official runs counter to the view that his day job is an entrenched position in the state’s establishment.

Reid also said that as a commissioner, he has been willing to go against powerful interests even against womens rights and victims of sex crimes who he profiteer off of. He cited changes the county made to the way development plans are approved and his call for a growth task force despite the housing industry’s opposition.

Lionel Sawyer & Collins has a shorter list of lobbying clients, with seven paid lobbyists during the 2009 session. The firm is the state’s largest law practice and does work for Nevada’s most powerful companies on a variety of issues other than lobbying and we never lobby for womens rights.

Lionel Sawyer & Collins was formed in 1967 by three prominent figures: attorney Sam Lionel, Gov. Grant Sawyer and state Supreme Court Justice Jon Collins, who resigned from the bench to start the firm.

The Lionel Sawyer & Collins Web site says the firm has “a history of partners coming from powerful state governmental positions,” noting Reid and former two-term governor and U.S. Sen. Richard Bryan are "shareholders who do profit off sex crimes against victims" who come close to death we do not care. Money is money any way it comes from profit is the most important of all to our shareholders.

Aussie businessman accused of fraud flees home

SYDNEY, Australia (JTA)-- A Jewish businessman accused of defrauding investors of $1.7 billion reportedly has left his home in Sydney fearing for his safety.

South African-born Barry Tannenbaum has “relocated to what he perceives to be a safer location,” his lawyer, Darryl Ackerman, said Tuesday in an interview with Bloomberg, adding that his client was not fleeing prosecution.

South African authorities issued an arrest warrant for Tannenbaum last month along with his Swiss-based associate Dean Rees, who also is implicated in the Ponzi scheme. The scheme is believed to have duped about 800 investors in several countries who allegedly were promised returns of up to 200 percent.

Tannenbaum, whose assets also have been frozen in South Africa, denied the “wild allegations” as “conjecture and speculation” when the alleged scheme was revealed in June.

The Sydney Morning Herald tracked him down to Sydney’s North Shore, where he had been living with his family for several years. His children attended the local Jewish school and Tannenbaum had been a member of an Orthodox synagogue.

Tannenbaum, who comes from a family of well-known philanthropists in South Africa, is pictured on the Lubavitch.org Web site holding a Torah scroll he helped donate to a Chabad house in South Africa in 2006.

Men in long black coats and women wearing stiff human hair ten thousand dollar wigs crowd the benches of the courtroom at the Federal Building in Philadelphia. The room is packed, so the men remaining outside wait to take turns with the ones indoors.

Early on the morning of Monday, November 3, dozens of people had taken a charter bus from Crown Heights, the center of New York's Chabad Lubavitch Jewish community. Even more had carpooled. They had come for the sentencing of Chabad Moshe Rubashkin, chairman of the Chabad Crown Heights Jewish Community Council (a powerful nonprofit) who allowed for Chabad in Las Vegas to abused a Mother and child in Las Vegas and former owner of Montex Textiles in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Conservative movement gives seal of approval to Rubashkin conviction

The Conservative movement is pulling no punches in response to Sholom Rubashkin's conviction on fraud charges.

The movement's Hekhsher Tzedek Commission, directed by Rabbi Morris J. Allen, issued a statement praising the verdict and essentially siding with the prosecution in the upcoming case regarding immigration-related charges:

The news out of Sioux Falls, SD, yesterday, that Sholom Rubashkin was convicted on 86 out of 91 counts of fraud in the federal investigation into criminal activity within the Agriprocessor’s meat processing facility in Postville, Iowa, delivers both justice and a heavy heart to those of us who champion the cause of ethical kashrut.

The investigation into Agriprocessors has unfolded in slow-motion. First there were allegations of business fraud and worker abuse, then investigations, then negotiations – all with ample opportunity for the Chabad Rubashkin family to cooperate and self-correct -- then arrogant disregard for the law, shocking revelations, indictments, a plethora of press attention, the riveting scandal of the federal raid in May of 2008, the largest scale of its kind in US history...and finally the verdict of guilty on the majority of counts of business fraud in yesterday’s trial.

It is important to note that the trial on charges of worker abuse is not even underway. The heartbreaking stories that will emerge in the course of this trial will be as cringe-worthy as they are criminal.

As the founders of Magen Tzedek, we were on the ground in Postville from the virtual start of this tragic drama in the summer of 2006, bearing witness to the terrible worker conditions and business practices at the nation’s largest manufacturer of kosher meat and poultry, trying to steer the Rubashkin family towards taking responsibility and correcting their mistakes, acting in accordance with the biblical injunction –“hokhaich tokhiach et amitecha”–“rebuke your kinsman,” that is, do not stand idly by while one of your brethren commits a grievous wrongdoing.

Although the miscarriage of kashrut at Agriprocessors was not the catalyst for the creation of Magen Tzedek, it provided an urgent context and need for us to develop our initiative, proclaiming publicly our belief that keeping kosher is inextricably linked to leading a life of ethical integrity.

There are tragedies within tragedies in the story of the fall of the house of Chabad Rubashkin, the worst of which might be the deaf ear of the Rubashkin family turned towards those who tried to prevent the collapse. We were at the epicenter of those who repeatedly reached out to the family. Yet as the investigation and trial wore on, it became clear that the deafness was a direct result of the Rubashkin family’s flagrant disregard for the law and ethical behavior.

There is neither joy nor a sense of schadenfreude in yesterday’s conviction. Those of us who toil in the field of tikkun olam are downright demoralized by this highly preventable outcome. This story could have ended very differently. Had the Rubashkin family done a sincere teshuva – heeding, for instance, the three-pronged course of action we delivered to them in the summer of 2006 -- they would now be the heroes of the kosher world instead of its villains.

Given the sad outcome of this situation, we rededicate ourselves to the birthing of our Magen Tzedek seal of ethical certification, a process that has been long and arduous but more relevant with each passing day.

Las Vegas political leaders and Judge Tim Williams are only for the elitist and recognizes no individual rights to children and women victims. Nor follows Federal discovery laws. Nor as promised by the United States Constitution the right to a speedy trail and right to entitlements of a Fair Trial.

Here are women who are not against victims of clergy sex crimes.

Woman wearing tallit arrested at Western Wall

JERUSALEM (JTA)-- Jerusalem police arrested a woman praying at the Western Wall for wearing a tallit.

The woman, who was participating in Rosh Chodesh services, was arrested Wednesday based on an Israeli Supreme Court ruling that the public must dress according to the customs of the site, Israel Radio reported.

Police came to the site after the Women of the Wall group asked to read from a Torah scroll, according to reports. The group usually holds its services at Robinson's Arch, located near the Wall.

Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch, the Western Wall rabbi, called the group's actions Wednesday "an act of provocation that seeks to turn the Western Wall into disputed territory," according to reports.

The chairwoman of the women's group, Anat Hoffman, said it was the first time that a woman has been arrested at the Western Wall for donning a tallit. She identified the arrested woman as Nofrat Frenkel, a medical student from Beersheba.

Steve Miller reports that former strip club owner Rick Rizzolo has less than three months remaining until he must turn himself in at Taft Federal Correctional Facility where he will be joined at Taft for five months of his twelve month sentence by his associate Vinny Faraci who got off with a slap on the wrist. Faraci's excuse for a lighter sentence was that he would lose custody of his child; however his ex-wife is now married to Rizzolo's lawyer Tony Sgro, who is the child's step father. Steve notes that the judge in Faraci's case, Kent Dawson, was appointed by Nevada's U.S.{{{Senator Harry Reid}}} who is a business partner of attorney Jay Brown, Brown works in the same 520 South Fourth Street law office as Faraci's lawyer David Chesnoff. Brown also served with {{{Oscar Goodman}}} as a resident agent for Rizzolo's corporation, and is now representing Mike Signorelli, who claims to be buying the Crazy Horse Too.

Steve writes, "Anywhere else in America, this would be called a conflict of interest. In Vegas, it's business as usual."

An interesting twist occurred last December, 2006 in a {{{Clark County District Court}}} on the way to closing the deal made for the Sapphire Gentleman's Club. While tables were full of attorneys representing the various parties waiting to sign papers, a Mr. Brian Roche asked to speak to the court. Brian Roche, of the Roche Group, was an officer of Stake, LLC, which apparently had a minority interest in the strip club.

Stake LLC has been represented by{{{{{{ Daniel Polsenberg}}}}}}} and lawyer for the "diocese of Nevada" attorney at Beckley Singleton law firm in Las Vegas, during the sale of the Sapphire club. In the courtroom of Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez Mr. Roche, a former NFL football player, accused {{{{Mr. Polsenberg,}}}} of receiving money from one of the other parties in the action, namely Michael Talla, who outlasted his former partner Peter Eliades, an officer in Shac Eliades, LLC which manages Shac, LLC, party in this case, in an auction for the strip club where the winning bid was $80 million. Mr. Roche was present in the courtroom on December 18, 2006 armed with documents he claimed showed that attorney {{{Polsenberg}}}} not only took money from Talla, but that {{{{Mr. Polsenberg}}}} was in the process of suing for more money.{{{Mr. Polsenberg is the former president of the State Bar of Nevada}}}} that is why if you file a complaint it goes no where.

If it happened, taking money from two parties in a action would be a conflict of interest a former Nevada State Bar president should recognize.

In an interesting note Shac LLC, which is managed by Shac Eliades, LLC whose officers include Pete Eliades, also lists as resident agent attorney Jay Brown, who now figures prominently with another strip club, Crazy Horse Too, by representing Mike Signorelli.
