Those are very good points. The money spending matter is not merely questionable, it's ridiculous. If an employee is bad enough to get rid of then you establish your case and cut him loose. DONE, and let him fight it if he wants. You don't just make him go away and pay him for doing nothing indefinitely. This paid leave BS is not a fix to a problem. I can't imagine any reason that this has to go on for so long unless they are trying to negotiate a settlement with them to go away quietly and not fight. They can't come back at this point and be effective as Managers. Too much respect and credibility has been lost.

I agree that you SHOULD be able to cut a bad/malfeasant/delinquent employee loose.(I am now not talking about the TM). But the SEA union has a stranglehold on the town administration and you CANNOT get rid of even drug addict employees, people who drive for the town without a valid license, on and on. The SEA protects its people no matter what, even with an established case. The previous TM could not dismiss any union member, even for cause that would have them summarily dismissed in any other environment. How did this happen?

<quoted text>
What you say is partly but not entirely accurate. The previous TM did in fact can a few people in the SEA unions. One in the water Dept. and one in the sewer dept. I think there was also one in the Fire Dept. Most recently the Sewer Supt. has been let go also. I agree it's not easy because there is always a fight but the key is to establish an airtight case which usually isn't a problem because if the employee truly deserves termination then the employer will have sufficient ammunition to pull it off.

I believe it should be done within the ranks of the current Fire dept. Promoting within the ranks of the dept. is only the
proper thing to do. Who are the ones interested in the position?

All jobs should be posted!!

This is not right sneaky sneaky!! Too many sneaks runnning the town now since Ed got elected! Something needs to happen so that on certain critical issues it will require all THREE selectman to agree on issues. We vote these selectmen in to vote for us but yet they dont listen to us and or follow the rules, we dont vote for them to have them sneak around behind any citizen at all! And to have a interm town manager in there involved with it is just not right! They are screwing with peoples livlihoods!

I thought that the fire chief and deputy chiefs positions were appointed? I believe the selectman and the town manager will listen to the input from the current fire chief and past fire chief as well as the fireman. Only those people would know who is best for the job.How do you post a position when it is appointed?

well all I know is if people that apply for the job that hold higher rank should get the job...there was an assessment test that was taken that jb lied to the town manager and the selectmen about saying that there was none taken and it was given on Oct 18th 2001 3 people from town that took the test and the proof is yet to come.....

Wow what is going on in this town right now. Everything must be running great now right? I watch the most recent town meeting and the normal town criers are so not crying at all anymore!Everything that was so awfull wrong is now hunky dory cause a few people they didnt like are out now!! If that was not running on a personal agenda I dont know what is!Better keep an eye on the budgets now!! Believe it or not the only one that was watching the budgets now is gone. I am sorry but I think this guy that is running as the town manager seems like a yes man! I dont know him but just watching the meeting I get the impression he doesnt know too much bout the operations of the job!

Are you saying that our great JB lied to his boss the town manager? He should have been let go for that!! Maybe not allowed to retire! Jobs that important should be given by assesment test,experience and ability to lead etc..
Hey town criers:How much money is this costing the town letting your buddy go? I thought you were all about saving the tax payers?

Two high salary employees on paid leave and seemingly no end in sight. One for 3 months now and the other almost 2 months. It seems the Town's case against them must be weak because they are afraid to cut the cord. Either fire them or bring them back and make them earn the checks they are currently getting for free. Enough. already! Everybody else has to show up and work for a living.
not one of the foremen or Dow manager.........they've been going home for yrs. They never take personal time when leaving early, but I bet they still get their gas mileage tor travelling 60 miles HOME
