OMG so they had a mass interview last night. They called it an 'audition'. They had about 100 people crowded around in a room. Then each person had to get on a little platform on a microphone and introduce themselves and try to 'out personality' everyone else. It was ridiculous. You would have thought it was tryouts for American Idol, not an interview to work in a dirty, cliche night club. Who do they think they are?
Then, the original job application, which was filled out last week asked: "Who's your favorite superhero?" "What's in your frige right now?" I mean seriously....Apparently past experience means nothing.
After that, it wouldn't matter if they offered me $100.00 dollars per hour, I will happily decline.
That just isn't someplace I could be proud to represent.

Sounds like the owners look down on working class people and this was a way for the owners to have fun while belittling workers.
I will not give them my business after reading this

. I was recently hired on as a bartender, and just wanted to say, I worked in las vegas and atlantic city casinos for years, and the audition process is standard format in the interview process for all bar and wait staff even dealers on the tables. By doing the audition and the "application" they understnd more about who you are a a person then any past experiance could. From what I understand its not going to be a young punk kiddie club like neo lounge and level downtown ft. Myers. Don't let the location turn you off before we get started. THIS WILL NOT BE BAMBOO CLUB. This is going to be geared tward the working man trying to take a load of and let loose. Sorry about your experiance at the audition... I had a blast, your the only one I know of who didn't.. I hope to see everyone there. This will be the place to see and be seen this season.... come say hello.

Well thanks for the very informative post. Perhaps I will stop by. Oh..I didn’t audition, had I, I would have been first to be placed!

Oh God I hope I'm never desperate enough to 'quack like a duck' in front of 100 strangers for a shot at working in a bar.

I feel bad for those who have been victims of our economic downward spiral and HAD to act like an ass just to put food on the table.

And Nick, just curious, how do you go from Las Vegas and Atlantic City to SE 47th Terrace? This place must suck compared to the night life you're used to.

Yea right? Can you imagine auditioning for a job that pays 3 bucks an hour and you get treated like ass by a bunch of drunks? I thought the same thing of the Vegas and Atlantic City thing, why would anyone leave Nevada for Cape Coral? But he seemed pretty nice and didn’t get cocky with me like most of the new business owners do. He actually hit the nail so I might visit and have a nice review. Not like that bozo from that other restaurant down the road from this place.

Well to those who wondered about the reasoning behind moving to florida from las vegas from nj. It can be simply put. I missed my mom. I chased her around till she retierd. And I left a crazy ex- in the wake along the way... certainly the night life is more mellow, but I'm not a 23 year old kid anymore. So it suits me just fine. Gimme a fishing pole in the off time and a couple bottles to pour at work and I'm a happy camper.. the dixie roadhouse collective is the best of the best of the best, and we will be bringing that your way soon enough.... soft opening sept 16th... ill see you there!!

I dont understand why all the hostility about their hiring process. I went through the rounds of interviews, made the audition, had a BLAST and never once felt embarrassed nor belittled. The auditions were a way to see how you react in different situations, to observe your personality and to see whether or not you could get out of your comfort zone and have fun and ensure the guests have fun. No one was at the audition unless they were qualified for the job so the auditions weren't really about whether or not you can bartend or serve because they already knew you could, that's why you were there. I am very PROUD to be one of Dixie Roadhouse's new bartenders!!

There is just so much wrong with this. This actually may have changed my mind about going there. Observe your personality. See if you could get out of your comfort zone. Guests, having fun.
I just don’t understand this new yuppie way of life. Nor do I want to. This politically correctness about everything we do. Robots more like. Who are these professionals that observe and are so schooled in telling the perfect employee from the not so much. This sounds really presumptuous too as far as the clientele. I mean after all this is Cape Coral. On second thought maybe this is the right place for this kind of a circus. I really don’t know how someone bringing me a drink is going to make me have a good time. It’s more up to me to have a good time. As far as making and serving a drink goes, a monkey can do that. I mean no offense but really, there’s no trick to making a good drink and serving it. Working with people is common sense but it seems the world has turned, or tried to turn it into something it’s not. Whatever!

I completely agree in my opinion I had much more fun and didn't have to be nervous about are they gonna hire me with all my tattoos or am I too young still want to be able to enjoy my place of employment... the Dixie road house has been very good to the people they hired and those who were not. I have never felt embarrassed or awkward or put down by doing the audition actually I had loads of fun.

The drink is always better when there is a smile served along with it.. the party starts with you, the guest... it is sustained by competent personable service... my philosiphy I've adopted over the last ten years is.... "come in as a guest, leave as a friend, return as family"... and that has always me a fan favorite, and that makes me happy. GO DIXIE.....

.

Would you rather have a grumpy rude person serving you or an outgoing bubbly person who actually cares whether or not you have a good time? Just saying. Serving and Bartending is NOT for everyone and not everyone is cut out for it. It takes a lot of patience, multi-tasking skills, a good memory, and a lot of other attributes to be a successful bartender. If you've ever worked in the industry you would understand why this was actually a fantastic way to put together the best crew possible.

I have worked in the “business” I hardly consider alcoholics an industry. I’ve owned several drunkard palaces in my day, made crap loads of money on it. Keeping it simple and using what nature has supplied all of us, regular old common sense. Anyone that needs to be trained to be nice isn’t anyone that I would ever hire.
