Here is a novel thought. Why doesn't the respective counties just take over, like they do in MD. Not only is Tri-Community hurting but alot of other services are hurting as well. If the county would take over the reigns of EMS then most of these situations would be reduced. I have read alot in this post but have waited to reply to anything, i wanted to gathered as much insight as I could. Its unfortunate that PA is behind the times. No community needs to be put through any of this, whether its here in Mon City, Monessen, or anywhere. Being a medic for Many years I have learned one thing. I don't do what i do to become rich, I do what I do because I was given a talent to help. I have worked for some of the above mentioned services. Some have been a truly remarkable experience, others have been just a slap in the face. I have worked with partners that i will remember for the rest of my life, i also have worked with partners that i have already forgot about. That is neither here nor there. I truly would like to see a county based system with substations scattered at strategic points.
Small EMS services are becoming a thing of the past. You must be able to grow and be willing to play together in the sandbox, that is why you won't see many services merging. Its a pride issue just as it is with the fire service, but that is a whole other box of issues. Until this mess that PA is experiencing is resolved, if you are the treater, please treat with passion, if you are the treated, i hope that your experience is a positive one.

Sow, not sew. LOL. However good point and a very accurate statement.

Although I live in Mon City I personally know nothing first hand about the local EMS situation. From all I've read on this site regarding it they seem to be a very mis-managed, inept and down right scary organization.

Are there not any state officials who can step in and review it's practices and then make a decision as to what needs done to ensure that the well being of the residents it services are in good hands?

Unfortunately not really. EMSI (Emergency Medical Services Institute) and the Dept of Health are really the only organizations that handle EMS and as long as the service has mutual aid with other services, there isn't a whole lot they can do. PYT is right that it is a PA state problem, however the dept of health is kinda of like congress. They worry about what suits them not what is affecting the citizens. The only real thing the citizens can do is seek help from their boro or city council members.

In defense to Joe Muntan, I have personally worked with him and I am an EMT, I have no problems with him in fact he did work holidays with me and I really enjoyed working with him. He took me under his wing and helped me advance my skills and become more familiar and better at my job. Joe also encouraged me to further my education and make my future brighter. Not to mention Joe also worked almost five or six shifts a week at TCA, in fact I remember that Joe missed the RWNES christmas party in order to work at TCA for a coworker, so the coworker could go. I dunno why bashing Joe has anything to do with the EMS coverage problems. I am familiar with all of the names that were mentioned and they all were and are great people. I really think that maybe you need to know someone and there work ethics better before you go off and bash people. There really isn't a shortage of medics, more or less the pay isn't there and they are moving into more controlled settings such as hospitals where there is better pay and a more controlable work environment.

In response to Grow Up, what are you smoking? Joe Muntan never worked any Holidays during the year. Advance your skills? You need skills to advance. I know exactly who this is and you are a joke to EMS providers everywhere. Most EMS providers have worked hard to attain their statu, not you. Everybody knows you got your job (hired by Joe) by sleeping with him, he has said as much. Why don't you speak the truth. Tell about the time that Joe, just up and left in the middle of a shift to go to a class down in Pittsburgh, left the service with only an EMT. He never worked five or six shifts a week. You are the one that needs to Grow Up.

Hi again folks.
Now, this is the real FireBustinMedic. Nothing like using my name to slam someone. Dumb. Not my style. Anyone who has read my two previous entries will realize, I do not slam people. Unfortunately for the person who wrote a entry under my name, I know who you are. Dumb to leave my name up on the computer, with a time entry. I actually have not even been on this site since last Friday morning. My writing style and wording is much different then yours. I shall deal personally deal with you. No wonder that you called off sick today, and stuck me working now a total of 32 hours. OH well, I'll do my best to serve my patients. Thats what I am here for.
It is a shame though, to use someone elses name to slam, or talk about others, and not have the courage to at least make up your own.
To all of you, have a good day.

THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS NOT AN AMBULANCE SERVICE BUT THE FIRE DEPTS THEY SHOULD COMBINE ALL OFF THE LOCAL DEPTS TOGETHER TO SAVE MONEY. THE FIRE DEPTS ARE HURTING FOR VOLUNTEERS. MONONGAHELA HAD 4 FIREMAN AT A HOUSE FIRE THE OTHER DAY. IF MONONGAHELA WANTS TO MERGE ANYTHING IT SHOULD BE THE FIRE DEPTS.

To the person who stuck up for me, thank you. To the false fire busting medic: It's one thing not to like someone and view your opinions. But when you outright falsely accuse someone of doing things that you stated that I did, that is a whole other legal issue. Its called slander and I will deal with it soon. To any else, please leave my name off this site. I honestly don't care about the bickering that goes on here. Myself, I think it's petty. I have never been with anyone else expect my current girlfriend, and I have never left my job for anything and I proudly stand behind that. Once again, do not refer to my name on this site again, I will seek legal action.

Joe M you can't keep hiding behind BS. Does the truth hurt? If your girlfriend only new how you say things behind her back and wouldn't even let her live with you until she got a full time job to help pay bills and clean your house and cook your meals for King Joe.

SHEMP FROM MO-TOWN DOES KNOW WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT. THERE IS ALOT MORE THAT NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT OUT INTO THE OPEN; I KNOW; I USED TO BE THERE. MONESSEN "USED" TO HAVE A 1ST RUN AMBULANCE SERVICE UNTIL THE CURRENT BONE HEADS STARTED TO RUN IT INTO THE GROUND. WE USED TO BE RESPECTED EVERYWHERE EVEN BY PGH EMS. NOW EVERYONE IS JUST LAUGHING BUT THE PATIENTS ARE CRYING. WHEN YOU WORK THERE, IF YOU KNOW TOO MUCH; YOU'RE GONE, EITHER FIRED OR YOU QUIT FROM FRUSTRATION. THE OLD MEMBERS WORKED VERY HARD TO BUILD MAS UP TO WHAT IT "WAS". NOW IT'S A JOKE! WHEEL CHAIR TRIPS TAKE PRIORITY AND NO ONE WANTS TO WORK FOR PEANUTS AND BE TREATED LIKE DIRT. TO COIN A PHRASE BY WIEILHEM, "WHEN YOU WORK HERE, I OWN YOU..." HE FORCED OUT ALL THE GOOD PARAMEDICS AND EMT'S. NOW YOU GET WHAT'S COMING TO YOU.....DIRT!!!!! IT'S NICE TO HAVE ALL THOSE FANCY UNITS JUST SITTING IN THE GARAGES COLLECTING DUST. TOO BAD MVEMS DOESN'T HAVE THE "GOOD & DEDICATED" PERSONNEL TO RUN THEM. IT IS TRUELY A SHAME.

I think it is pretty funny that you say that you have only been with your current gf. When I know different and so does the whole Mon Valley. But that is besides the point. My point that I am going to make is that you are the petty one, who will risk peoples lives in a fire, because you would rather call a fire dept that is 10 minutes away then one that is 2 minutes away just because you have bug up your behind. I hope my loved ones are never in need of the Mon City Fire Dept while you are a member. The world would be a safer place if you would just quit doing anything that requires saving peoples lives.

You know you sound like a complete idiot, all you do is ramble on, this is not right, that is not right. If you want a profound thought, try this one out, how about getting involved, why not help out, sounds like you have a lot of anger. If you think other services are so great let me give you an example: There was a call about 3 months ago in Monessen, the call was a patient fell through plate glass right across from MVEMS BASE. MVEMS did not have a crew, no suprise there, however the Administrator who is paramedic (In title only) was in the office. He knew about the call!!!
Tri-Community was called in, they arrived on scene, took care of the patient, flew the patient from a Landing Zone about 1 block away from MVEMS BASE. Never did our Little Man Administrator even bother to help, he stood at the doorway of MVEMS and watched. He was asked about this, his response was he was to busy to be bothered, yet this patient was bleeding profusely less than 20 yards away. Some great boss huh.
Too bad there wasn't a TV crew there with their cameras. "Old Wilhelm would have been there in his sparkling white shirt in a heart beat!

I wish more people would read Protecting Your Tomorrow's & my previous posts- there you'll see the REAL issues which belie us in the Valley. These situations and backbiting mentioned in these posts are merely symptoms of an unhealthy organism.

I say let's talk merger.
Get in or get out; you all wanna be like Finleyville that has no dedicated police protection? The writing is on the wall for EMS services valley-wide... NOW is the time to act!

Let me say I was a part of MVEMS and TCA (Tri Community)before advancing my education in the healthcare field; also was a Paramedic of the Year Nominee on another state prior to coming to PA; I have many relations in the Mon Valley and AM concerned across the board for how the future of Medicare reimbursements and private insurance payors will reimburse already poorly outfitted EMS agencies to provide top notch EMS services to our aging Mon Valley residents.
here's the crux- unifying the entire region under one service would allot for greater resource & personnel utilization, better coverage, better pay, better equipment, a greater scope of practice. I offered local fire departments opportunity to engage in a grant program for a free AED, but no one wanted it- too out of the box, not necessary, never had one- don't need one...now what's become the standard in pre-hospital care? But no one will do it becaue of one word- pride. Negative, harmful, self inflated pride that instead of pulling a healthcare community together will tear us apart. If anyone is interested in SERIOUS dialogue about how to make it happen- let me know on this forum!
Sure don't remember any medic coming to TCA or MVEMS that was Paramedic of the Year nominee in another state prior to coming to PA. What year was this?
