I am wondering if there is a website or if anyone has any pictures of Fostoria from years ago?
I heard it was quite the big town and I was born and raised there.
Thanks

The link above is for Watertown Township website, which is located in Fostoria MI. I know the railroad was a big part of Fostoria in the early days, but not real sure how big of town it was. According to the website there is a historical committe that has meeting. Maybe you could request more information from them?

Im sorry Jennifer. Fostoria is not a big city. It's actually so small, i wouldnt even consider it to be a village. More like a rest stop. You may be thinking of a different fostoria other than fostoria michigan. Its population is about 30 and it just has a mini mart and a fire dept. that is it. other than just 2 blocks of homes. sorry...youre prolly thinking of a different fostoria

You couldn't be more wrong! I lived there for 23 years, there is more than a fire dept and a party store there is more than a couple blocks, fostoria does not just consist of main street

Okay Jen, I did exaterate a little. There is a Post office, Fire Dept, Party Store, and a bar...basically it. It may have been different back when you grew up...but trust me, I am telling you, that is all. A population of under 1000. Trust me. It is now. Could have been different back when you were growing up. SORRY!!!

I have seen pictures of Fostoria waaaaaay back when. The pictures were in the bank (which is no longer there). It looked to have some decent size buildings. I live in Fostoria, and have for 9 years now. It's not a very big town...one blink and you miss it! LOL I like it because it's a nice, small town. On the side of the party store, they have a type of mural that says "Fostoria, MI the Huckleberry Railroad Turn-Around Town." So I'm guessing that back in the day, the Huckleberry Railroad came as far as Fostoria.

I seem to recall stories that at one time (late 1800's/early 1900's) that Fosteria was indeed a much larger town. Seems a fire destroyed most of the town and probably the local businesses relocated elsewhere...shortly followed by the majority of the residents.

I took my kids back to see Fostoria a few years ago and cried the whole way home. I had only lived in Fostoria for about 2 1/2 years, but had so many great memories. The first place I wanted to take my kids was to old man Burke's .... it was a little pony barn near FHS. I spent a lot of time hanging out with the ponies ... we sent on Sunday rides and drove the pony carts in the local fairs and parades. It wasn't there anymore. The barn has been replaced by a nursing home.
In addition, my old house looked horrible... and what once was one street with a few culdesacs seemed overcrowded. As many houses as there were in the neighborhood you would have thought there would have been kids running all over the place.
We had returned a few times to attend the St. Wendelin festival

I believe we are most definitely talking about a different Fostoria!
All I know is about the railroad going through and such. I would just like to find some pics of Fostoria from way back when...it would be neat to see. So if anyone can find anything please let me know.
Thanks

I was in Fostoria Mi. in the early 1970's and found that there was once a high school there. I have a picture of it. A nice two story brick building. About 20 years later I was there again and found that the building had been remodeled into a apartment building. I know it was a high school because it said "Fostoria High School" above the front entryway! Is Fostoria now in the Mayville or the Millington District?

Fostoria is now in the Mayville District and has been for a few decades now. I grew up in Mayville, and Fostoria has always been a tiny town for as long as I can remember. There are maybe 200-300 people if they are lucky.

Yes Fostoria is a very small town. Most of my relatives live there. I was born in 1981 and lived there for 24 years. I have heard stories about the railroad there and I am STILL so curious about it! I would love to know the history of the town I grew up in.

Fostoria once was a very large place, If you have grand parents that lived there like I do, then you would know. They told me that there was once four gas stations in the town, a grain elevator right there on good rich and fostoria rd, a hardware shop behind the post office, the bank, a dace hall above the old building that used to be where the store is at. Where the apartments are at used to be the school. There also was the big foster farm on milington rd which fostoria was named after. I guess it was a decent lumber town, with places near by called milington (Miling-town) and saw dust corners.

There was a mayville historical video released last year, it includes an awesome documentary of Mayville, Fostoria, Silverwood and Juniata. They are $22.00 at Seven Services Mayville Computers in downtown Mayville. If your interested, they can be contacted by sending an email to contactus@svnsvs.com

Fostoria, MI. Has many memories for me. Back in the early 40's there was a Firday night free movie shown on the old warehouse building. That building is still there. I have returned a few times with my sibilings as we visit where the old farm used to be on Burnside Road about 3 miles to the south. The family name was Bratt. Both of my uncles went to Fostoria highschool -- now converted into apartments. One uncle was so good at baseball he was provided transportation to Columbiville to play on their team. The village is dying as many of these small towns are. Sad to see.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Leo

It's hard to pin down a certain person today because they're being so vague and dithery. Ask them a question and they'll vacillate or be unable to give you a straight answer. You might suspect them of deceitful goings on but it's far more likely that they're simply in a world of their own and can't keep their mind on anything for long. Don't worry, they'll soon be back on planet earth.
