The Hadley Bridge

It seems there are major cracks in the newly poured cement.These were caused by heavy traffic being allowed before the cement cured.

I thought the delay was caused because they found more damage to the middle pillars than they expected?

Wasn't the Empire State Building built in a year and a half? Repairing a bridge, even with some glitches, shouldn't take so long.

The bridge should have been completely removed and rebuilt. This process is slower, cost more and won’t be as good as a new bridge. The Champlain Bridge is much larger extending over a lake and was done in a third of the time. They are using coated rebar which is illegal in most states. The coating detaches over time.

So the Hadley bridge won't open until 2013 - what's the big deal. The road itself will function well while the under structure gets repaired. Better safe than sorry. The transformation so far is just beautiful. Let's hear something positive on this board. As far as I'm concerned this is a good place to live and I've been around since the Great Depression. Life was not always perfect then - but we worked together and made good lives for our families.

I don't know if they drug test at NPR-- but they do a brain scan---to see if you have one

i agree with your assessment that the bridge should have been removed and rebuilt. the former mayor and state decided that the bridge could be renovated, despite the fact that the city took two buildings, at the south end of the overpass by eminent domain for a road across the railroad tracks. as for the new lake champlain bridge, the albany tv stations reported on their 5 PM news, that the cement on the supports has cracked, but new york DOT has determined that the cracks are a typical occurence in that situation. http://www.fox23news.com/news/local/story/NY-...
