Ingrate? If your boss tried to pull the same thing as the hospital is trying to pull you would cry like a baby. This is not about money. It is an outrage that someone sitting behind a desk gets 385,000 a year in this beans and franks town and then hires a consultant for half a million to show him what to do.That is a real issue if you want to make this a money issue which it is not.On a smaller scale look at the questionare they send you after each hospital visit. It is a waste of time and money as no one sends them back.

You people kill me, You always start by stating that it is not about money and then swiftly begin your rant about how much Rick makes. Do you honestly think you are fooling anyone? I assume you all work for the warm and fuzzy feeling you get, right? Bull crap- it is all about the money, and what you all need is a good dose of reality like they just got in Pittsfield. And all those people just laid off would take your jobs in a New York minute- regardless of the questionnaire's. Furthermore, you have become an embarrassment to our community, do us a favor and quit already!

Decreased patient volume

I am not surprised about the layoffs due to "decreased patient volume" in part. Perhaps someone needs to review the emergency department logs and disposition of patients. Numerous times a sick nursing home patient is sent to the emergency department only to have the same sick patient returned to the nursing home with limited/no treatment. The same sick patient is then sent out (by the nursing home) to a different hospital - the patient is assessed, tested and admitted!! The local nursing homes have a terrible time trying to have ill patients receive acute care when needed. This has happened countless times over the past several years!! Although economic conditions impact what is occurring at the hospital BHS is fooling itself if it believes their own patient management at the emergency room/admissions level is not partially responsible. I feel bad for the clinical staff who are impacted but BHS needs to learn from some of their mistakes/decisions.

Look sport.I am retired.I made my money and I have by North Adams standards more bread than a cheap meat loaf. Now that that is out of the way lets get another thing straight.I am not in any way connected to the local hospital and seldom go there because I am a veteran and use the VA health system. Rn's and Lpn's are the backbone of any hospital and you and yours need to show a little respect.I stand by what I said about this guy knocking down $385,000 per year. That boils down to $7403 per week,$1480 per day and $185.00 per hour if he works eight hours.I saw first hand the ways primadona's who held managment positions milked and bilked the system and most never worked an eight hour day because they seem to think they are special. How can anyone make that kind of money in a beans and franks burg like this and then hire a half million dollar consultant?

Hey Grass -- you deposit:
You always start by stating that it is not about money and then swiftly begin your rant about how much Rick makes. ">>>>>.... ...
So, you are on a first name basis with 'Rick'. How nice. But how can you or your good buddy possibly justify the CEO of a backwoods hospital making a few thousand dollars less than the President of the United States????
Then, he's got the balls to demand a drastic change in working schedules of nurses in order to save the hospital money????? All with that sweet, detached tone of "We're only doing it for our dear, beloved patients!"
If the irony of that has gone over your head, then you should be in some corner office knocking down a few hundred thousand yerself. But really, it's all about the re-distribution of wealth now isn't it? Take from the bottom and send it all upstairs.

ooops! sorry. I should have known that you can not figure anything out on your own. Let alone make any kind of reasonable response.

Why don't they cut the exuberant salaries of the administrative/budget/finance/ human resource staff and lay them off? Do they need a public spokesman? Do they need that many people adding and deducting? What they need is quality healthcare for all of us with the best doctors and nurses. Isn't that what a hospital is about not a money making entity? So the state and feds cut their reimbursements, our premiums go up and now our healthcare is going down the tubes. I always said BMC was the better of the hospitals in the area, now I'm heading to Boston and be treated like the Governor and our legislators and congressmen are. What's good for them is good for us too.

You cowards hiding behind the protection of the union, I said it once and Ill say it again. Do us a favor and end the embarrassment of having so called "professionals" like you serve us and QUIT already just Quit!!!! You are obviously angry, bitter and jealous little people and that is not something I am looking for when it comes to health care. And if you all wanted banker's hours than you should have become a banker, I was never given the impression that the health care industry was your typical 9-5. So either gump it up or get another job.

Look, I'm much farther to the right than any of you pinko losers around here, and even I have to say that everyone whining about the NARH union is all wet.
Whenever I sell ANYTHING I get the highest god damn price I can get.
I would cut your effing heart out to do it, too.
And if any one of you losers put anything of yours up for auction, you would sell to the highest bidder and anyone who bid too low would be SOL.
I don't expect anyone to work for anything less than every damn cent they can get or to work under conditions that are anything less than the best they can get.
The nurses aren't charity workers any more than management. So spare me the violin music about the patients and about professionalism. The nurses are selling their labor. They are absolutely morally entitled to get the best price for it they can get, the same as when anyone else sells anything else. They owe the patients nothing, the hospital nothing, and the community nothing.
