Some people that dont understand find it easier to laugh at or make fun of or assume that if your disabled you must be stupid as well...like if somome is blind some people will talk loud as if they cant hear.
Usally those who laugh and make fun of do this due to thier own low self esteem and moral fiber.
insulting others for some reason takes the attention off of themselves and onto others.
I dont take it personally those who bash because i always tell them i feel bad for a person that feels good about themselves only when they try to make another feel bad.
What people see on the outside of somone and who they are at home behind closed doors only the ones with you day and night know who you really are.Anyway I really think that this city needs a change i think Dick has alot of intellect and common sence and what the current mayor lacks Moral fiber.I always believed no mayor should be able to be in office for more than 4-6 years.I think you will be very pleased if Dick becomes mayor that he will sit with you without Judgement and hear your thoughts and give you the best responce and if he doesnt know he will look into it.That is just the person he has always been ask anyone who knows him or has done business in the past at Hoosac bank.I wish everyone going for office on all levels the best of luck i am sure teh residents of this city will chose whom they think will be the best person for the job.

Oh, yes. After nineteen years of your bilious expulsions, Councilor Billings, we are surely, most certainly, apprised of that fact.

Well, that seals it. With Peter May as an Alcombright backer, Barrett's re-election is secure. Can't wait for the letters from Rusty Ransford, Mike Deep, Scott Stern and other such reputable people to roll in.
I don't support Alcombright. I have an arrangement, why would I want a new guy answering the phone?

I laugh because my feelings are Education is the very foundation that the government is based on.I wonder without proper use of the english language or the common sence enough to use notepad and spell check before posting into a community forum looks really bad on her behalf. If she is trying to make herself known to the public then she must stop talking in circles and thinking small.
She often says 1 thing and then when confronted changes views to fit others.I believe a sence of business is importaint not to mention a more in depth view of how a city is governed what she can do and what she cant. Alot of things she mentions if she had looked them up online would know that under differnment ordinances and laws some things are not up to a city to change or not change i just feel she is not resourseful enough to be a city counciler however to be on a commitee for different projects may be a place for her to begin and be most helpful with the ideas she has.
I also have disability but when on the council you have to support all people in the city not just certain groups. With the country and the local economy in such distress some things are just no longer feasable to do.Hell the gas even increased over 15cents in less than a weeks time.id like to see something done locally about gas gouging how is it that in adams gas is so much less than here in the city.what can we as a city do to encourage local store owners and chains to keep prices reasonable?Do we have any incentives to keep businesses a break a one time tax break of some kind to help then so businesses arent closing all over the place...I may be just as *local government* stupid as the next i do know some just making sugestions that are on a larger spectrum than roller rinks/benches/and the Buggy mafia.
Ps. I wasnt saying everyone who laughs at disabled or brain dead have low self esteem but a large number of people pick on people to make themselves feel superior in some way.My Husband took a class of yours many years back when he went to hoosac school he came here in the summer and he said you are the reason he has such passion for History and that by far you were one of the most intelligent people in this area.I dont always agree with you but who always agrees with somone i would be very concerned if that happened all the time agree agree agree people who do that dont know how to think for themselves or form a opinion of thier own.so thank god for the things that make us different. Once again Good luck in your future endeavors.

Any of the discussions concerning the upcoming North Adams mayoral race are immediately dragged into the mud by Alcombright's people.

Alcombright's supporters seem to know no other way to express their support for their man than to constantly sling garbage at the mayor.

Is that the kind of mayoral race North Adams needs? Are Alcombright's supporters the kind of people you want involved in city government?

John Barrett - noted screaming jerk who has gotten into shoving matches with all sorts of people, including a rather notorious incident with Governor Romney's aide on Beacon Hill.

or...

Dick Alcombright - noted for his ability to work with different people and actually listen to what people have to say rather than just doing everything his way.

Yep. I know what kind of person I want in city government and Lumpy ain't it.

"by the numbers": Yes, thanks for the correction, I did mean 2007. I was disagreeing with the first poster, the 2nd post happened while I was writing mine.

That was exactly my point... if 30% of people vote against you no matter what, an opponent need only fine 20.01% to win. Those aren't bad odds.

"Alcombright attacks": There are 'haters' on both sides of this campaign. Please don't lump everyone together. There are many people that are for one side or the other that would just like to have civilized debates about the issues at hand. But I do agree with ending attacks on either candidate that we simply for the sake of attack. This doesn't help anything at all.

I don't think it is an attack to point out that Barrett, himself, has become a major stumbling block to the progress of this city. Businesses just don't want to deal with the guy because he has such a bad reputation.

As someone who deals with entrepreneurs on a regular basis, I have been told over and over that "I won't invest a dime in that city until Barrett is gone."

And let me expand on the what I pointed out above. The most famous confrontation, Barrett punching/shoving/shouting at Romney's press secretary in the Capitol, cost the city millions of dollars in state aid. Romney intentionally screwed us because of Lumpy. No ifs ands or buts.

Why not attend one of the meet and greets? That way you could speak to him during a time when he is focused on discussing plans for the city.
I think that is one of the points of the meet and greets.
You may not get to dedicate the entire time to your concerns, since there is usually 10 or so other residents joining the conversation, but you may be able to clearly voice a few of your concerns and, hopefully, get an idea of Dick's views on them.

No matter what you folks say, it is not the Barrett supporters on these posts who are the nasty ones.
The Alcombright supporters call childish names and make unsubstantiated and extremely bitter personal attacks on the mayor at every opportunity on every post.
You can talk all you want about smiling community meet n' greets with Alcombright, etc. But his supporters are showing their true colors every chance they get here on these forums.
Do you want gutter mouthed, name-calling, bitterly angry people involved with city government in North Adams? Then vote for Alcombright.

Clark Billings is the only gutter mouthed, name-calling, bitterly angry person on these threads and he supports Barrett.

Sorry. You are wrong.

Your frequent bitter and vicious attacks on the Alcombright supporters are certainly making a good impression. Kudos for rising above that "bitterness" and "viciousness" you so detest.

City Council bashing? Huh? I thought this was about the difference between Barrett supporters and Dick supporters.

Its hard to say from Topix. So few Barrett supporters that can read anything but the large print edition of the Reader's Digest.
