I find it interesting that of the proposal's Greg has made, the one causing the most nails to drag along our little blackboard here is one about naming a school after the mayor. It's interesting, isn't it, how the symbolic hot-button issues get so much more play than the boring ones that actually define good government?
Nobody's talking about reducing public housing stock, tax incentives for fixing up blighted property, or putting city data online.
Just find it curious that's what sets people off a-typin' first. A symbolic gesture that won't cost the city a dime versus an entire section in the tax code defining what a "dilapidated" property is, how much of a tax break you get, who determines when you've fixed it up appropriately, and so forth.
This is what's so disappointing about the body politic as a whole. Oh well. It's never been any different, I suppose...

I share your pain.
Instead of "nails", I think I might have said "knuckles"....

When it comes to N.A. politics, no discussion is possible on any of these forums without a swarm of Alcombright's hate squad supporters making their appearance. Has anyone else noticed that most of the pro-Alcombright posts also make vicious, vicious attacks on the mayor? How can a man with such meatball supporters make a good leader?

Wanna' discuss an issue? Pick one. Unfortunately Mr. Barrett IS an issue all by himself. His temperament makes it impossible to get anything done. No business people want to deal with him. No city employee can speak up without fear of retribution. Alcombright goons? C'mon. You've got to be kidding me.

I doubt he is talking about the high-rise. If he lives on Marion he's only 200 yards from Brayton Hills. Lovely place... or not.

Coming from Billings, that's a golden endorsement. Something to put on the election signs. I predict Mayor Roach someday if Billings keeps talking.

Takecare: thanks for being nice. No worries, I can take it.
Listen, I have no deep seated love for the mayor either. This is why I support an alternate candidate for mayor.
My point was simply that I don't think we need to tear Greg down because of that issue.

I probably wouldn't call him an elitist if he worked at Price Chopper or Big Y-- but he works at Wild Oats and rubs elbows with the leftie glitterati from Billsville every day----as to reducing affordable housing --what about the Clark Biscuit project---that's going to add units---as far as the projects are concerned- the City has no jurisdiction over them---sure we have some pretty seedy people living there-ut the City can do nothing about it except bust them and send them to jail

Why do the vast majority of Alcombright supporters on these forums resort to name calling and personal attacks on the mayor?
Alcombright's most active supporters clearly don't actually support Alcombright - they just hate the mayor. Same old same old.

We all forgot that you hate everything west of the city line. God forbid somebody should talk to residents of Williamstown. I'd bet that most of the employees at Wild Oats live in North Adams. The projects have turned into a cesspool and there is a huge glut of low-rent apartments in North Adams that attract the scum of the earth from all over the region. Our city doesn't need to be in the slumlord business. What's that about Clark Biscuit? That's low income too? Jeeeezus! I thought it was going to be a nice place. Great. More section 8. Just what we need. Whose going to get the government checks from this project, if not the city? Whose the landlord? And you guys approved it?
