just wondering if anyone can think of, and post, a thing or two about what is good here in NA. there has been so much said about the not so good things, so I thought we might mention some of the good stuff. must be because the sun is shining and the next few days should be beautiful. nice way to enjoy the autumn!
so, I am thankful for..... the fact that WE did NOT get snow last week like some out west did! the great library we have in NA! the many great outdoor activities in our area, such as hiking on mt. greylock.
this is just a start. let's build up this thread. maybe posting some positive things about north adams will remind us all of why we live here.

I am walking distance from downtown. North Adams has great schools. People are friendly. My maternal grandparents raised their 10 children here.

Good things? O.K. You can steal money from three people who left their purces on the trolley bus that you are driving and get away with it because your mother works for the city. How is that?

like I said....not EVERY person in NA is a negative, mean, buttheaded, self-absorbed, whiner. some of us are out there living our lives and enjoying many things in the local area, even in wheelchairs. you know what? I spent the day today at the powwow on the mohawk trail. there is a little boy there by the name of Cody. he is 11 years old and severely disabled. I met him last year and he was struggling to get up and walk into the circle with his walker. he doesn't speak well, you really have to listen to him, but he told me he would be in the circle dancing this year without his walker. well guess what? he is! he falls, and drops the feather or dance stick he is carrying, and he gets back up, smiles, and dances on. he sleeps on the ground in a tent, just like most of the other people up there do, and he is always smiling and showing everyone there that he can do things no one would ever have imagined a year or two ago. This CHILD has courage, and the will to live life in any way he can, no matter how tough it is. I know this young man has way more courage than I have. and so does the grandmother who brings him there and cares for him when he is with her and not his mother. he wants to go to the powwow so she brings him. and he is giving to the community! he inspires! he challenges! he leads the way! all with a smile and eyes that speak of strength and wisdom beyond his years. few people will ever know the struggle he has, and I certainly can't even imagine, even though I am physically challenged myself. I just wish everyone could see him. maybe they would stop being so negative and learn a lesson or two from this awesome young man. and by the way, many of the trails are not passable by wheelchair, but the bike trail is beautiful and all 11 miles are paved. the museums are accessible, as are the ball park, skating rink, downtown events, sooooo many things! and if you are able to walk with a cane many of the trails are manageable if you take it easy and go with people who are willing to go at your pace. I love walking the trails at greylock glen! oh, I almost forgot, a lot of the horseback riding stables around here also cater to people with disabilities. even that sort of thing isn't impossible. and for many, snowmobiling and 4wheeling is possible as well. it all depends on what you decide you want to do.
