I'm really confused by cil's reaction to the posting of information about her mother. I googled the name and it led to the obituary. I posted it in SUPPORT of her to show others that what she said about her mother was true. Also found her grandfather's obit, but won't post it. For a woman that seems so proud of her family, she's seemingly embarrassed by them. Go figure.
Don't try to figure her out. She flip flops.

What right do they have to tell me I cant smoke in my apartment. I think there are more important things than this. First off they should worry more about the drug dealing going on in this building, they still cant figure out how to use the newly installed surveillance cameras. I've lived here for 12 yrs and not once have they ever cleaned out the venting system. Right now they are putting in a new heating system which is all fine and good but they didnt even finish putting in new windows on the back side of the building. My windows are so bad I have to put duct tape all around the windows just to keep the cold air out. We were told that our windows would be put in in the spring of 2011 now its winter 2012 and still no windows. As far as I'm concerned Bill Shrade and Jennifer Hahn are just plain stupid. I mean really. Who puts a new heating system in a building with tore up old junky windows. Are they that dumb. They wont be saving any money on heating when the windows are in such bad shape. Not only that but they leave the heat on in the stairwells all summer long. I bet you they have never even been in the stairwells. And that's another good subject. The stairwells are gross. They are never cleaned, spit on the walls , windows falling out, screens are all ripped and falling out. Down stairs in our community room they have duct tape on the windows too. Now they tell us we cant smoke in our apartment. Bill and Jennifer have their priorities mixed up. They cant even plow the parking lot. My sister lives at Berkshire Town Apartments in Pittsfield, and when it snows the residents have to have their cars moved out by 9 am so proper plowing can be done. Not here at the high rise they just plow you right in your spot, then they bitch when you try to shovel yourself out. Again I think they have their priorities backwards or they are just plain lazy. I love it when my daughter comes and picks me up at the back enterence and Bill Shrade is fast asleep at his desk. Oh the dirty little secrets of North Adams Housing Authority.
First of all , maybe beggers shouldn't be choosers. When you live in your OWN house that YOU pay for then you can make the rules. When you choose to live in public housing and we as taxpayers are paying for YOUR rent on top of our mortgages , you follow the public housing rules. If you dont like it - MOVE OUT !! The end.
Second, if you live in a building where you feel it's not clean enough, grab a mop and broom an clean it.
Last, the new heating system that is going to be installed is probably a grant. If you knew anything about a grant, you would understand why the windows aren't getting replaced prior to the heat system being installed.
From what I understand Jennifer Hohn is a hard working son of a bitch. She is an asset to the north Adams Housing Authority. Do you think you can do a better job than her ? I would like to see it. Why don't you start by organizing a better parking lot clean up when there is a snow storm. Sounds like you have all the answers.....

look here our 13 and 14th admendment say we are a civil country if you dont like that move to the middle east do you no what that means civil rights we treat all people with the same rights just because someone are poor that doesnot mean they have to live under different rule..what if you went to a rich city like longmeadow mass you where hungry and stopped to eat they refused to feed you because you live in NORTHADAMS and there taxes support your poor city how would you feel...because you know other citys taxes is the reason your roads where plowed today the reason you have a police force with more then 6 cars you know parts east people think the city has only 3 cars what if people said your city is less then 10 miles you can only have one cop while you rag others others can rag you your right BEGGERS CANT BE CHOOSEY and who is the first city in line when state money is given out NORTHADAMS...

Every tenant who cares enough to pay attention knows that there is a window contract already approved (I attended the open board meeting) and construction will start in the Spring to replace the last of the windows on the high rise. Actually the decision to wait until Spring was made by the director and the board to ensure proper installment weather conditions in addition to minimal inconvenience to the residents.. Who wants to freeze in their apartment for a full day while windows are replaced? Also the heating systems that were failing in all the buildings are being replaced with a grant that the director worked over a year to get approval on so other grant money can be spent to upgrade other things. Nobody on this forum seems has a clue of what it costs to run a government agency with limited funding that is being reduced every year.. No matter what you do for some people they will never be happy and maintain toxic attitudes. But know the facts before you put in your two cents. And as far as the smoking goes, there has never been any mention of banning smoking on the grounds and the smoking issue has come up because someobody almost set the building behind the high rise on fire by throwing hot ashes out, every tenant got a memo from Ms. Hohn addressing this. Personally, I'd like to know how people on a Social Security can afford 10 bucks a pack, I can't. And how can anyone defend risking the lives of others and damaging their health ( maintenance men and office staff breath the air in the building 8 hours a day as do visitors) absurd..

how can people on a fixed income afford to smoke anyway?? maybe they should take that $10 a day and buy themselves OUT of the NAHA !! i would never want to live in a place where i had to be in fear of others smoking safely... imagine if someone fell asleep in bed while smoking and burned the whole building down??!! that would be awful. hey, if you want to smoke, go outside....
also, they are ruining the interior of the apartments. you will never get that smell out of the walls or the carpeting... who wants to live in an apartment where someone chain smoked for years?? YUCK!

The fact are that most house fires are caused by careless smoking and I think all public housing should be smoke free. Drive through Mohawk Forrest and you won't see a single person without a butt hanging out odf their mouth.

I do see the side of tennants who pay what the govt. says they can manage with reason and expect to be able to do what they want in their own space. but the fact of the matter is, there are restrictions on your personal freedoms when you live in some one else's property, subsidised or not. there are "quiet times" as regulated by the city even if you own your own home. reasonable care is supposed to be used when disposing of trash, and about vehicles parked on your property, all sorts of things that affect others with your behavior, even if you own.
the fact that you may pay to rent the space does not give you freedom from any of those restrictions, but it does make you responsible to a landlord for the condition you keep the space in while you occupy it. a lot of money is spent to refurbish an apartment when a smoker leaves. I know. I've had to do it. and even if the floors are tile, as they are in the high rise, the smell and the chemicals seep into the tiles(which are permeable) and the walls. it is not impossible to get rid of but it is difficult and expensive. beyond that, in a space like the high rise, there are many people who have allergies, including to cigarettes, and the walls do not protect them from their neighbors as much as you might think. there is also the problem of walking by someone in the hall who has just had a smoke. I don't like the smell but I do not have a reaction to it. I do, however, have a pretty severe reaction to passing someone in confined space (hall, or worse yet elevator) who has perfume on. I think it must be very similar. and none of this touches on the hazzards of so many people in one building where there is smoking going on, especially when so many can not navigate the stairs.
the last time there was a significant fire in the building in front, my father was living in a 7th floor apartment. he had gone to bed and did not have his hearing aids in so he did not wake to the alarm. his service dog woke him fortunately and he was able to get down the stairs, but if the firefighters had needed to go in and find him he, and they, might have not been so lucky. fortunately the fire was contained to a small area but it could have been much worse.
this isn't about whether or not people pay enough to live in a space, or even who pays their rent. that is not the issue at all. so how about the issue is the subject and not the excuse to stab people in the back?

i agree with BB my first apartment there was no smoking allowed because the house was like 300 yrs old believe it or not only one door in the old victorian houses granted its a huge door but becuase only one door spfld rule is no smoking in them also the colors they can be painted are limited to basic colors of brick red forrest green ect i no one person got mad at the city painted there house rainbow they where fined 500 bucks a day thats was a lot of money back in the day they refused to pay city took there house some legal way and cars no junk cars in the yard people said its our yard but still if it could be seen city would tow it away so i do see the point of rules to keep history alive is one good reason for rules...to attack people because they live in public housing is wrong one can lose there home fast all it takes is a car accident trust me i no i once owned a house in the nicest part of spfld and lost it because the kid who hit my husband was 18 yrs old gets coplicated if you think you cant lose your home at the drop of a dime think again...i thought that way once then KARMA came and bit us in the AZZ...cil
