Who else is fed up with the quality of TW television reception? Picture and sound freezes and breaks up. Maybe we should all hold back a percentage of our bill every time it happens.

You are 100% correct! They have awful service! There are times where over half the channels are locked up with a frozen picture. I know of at least 20 other people who have complained of the same thing! Its time to go to satelite. Unfortunately, if you hold back money from them bandits they will just shut off your service!

Problem with direct tv is that you don't get community channels. Selectmen, city council, and other locally produced programs are important to many viewers.

Maybe it's time for a different cable company to come in. I hear Comcast is pretty good.

at the time time warner took over aldephia, they thought it would be a bright idea to covert it from a perfectly working service to one that may just be the worst in the country. without going into too much tech guru, they changed the infrastructure to their own. there is many reasons why this might be a good idea, yet it just so happens it may have been the worst. aldephia worked just fine. i had nearly no troubles at all for years. the internet was brisk and the reception was acceptable. since time warner merged their own system functionality in it (mainly the ultra-fast speeds) the reception on the television seem to be seriously affected and the internet connection was very problematic. at one point aldephia saturated nearly all east coast service. now some of these lines are rented out to the ISP where most all the local wires owned and maintained by the ISP themselves. the reasons for bad reception is likely a result of trying to cram too much bandwidth down the pipe. think of it was a water hose. the fire dept dont use a garden hose do they? its the same basic principle, they are supplying more than they can handle, so to protect connectivity(rather than performance) they literally have to lower the amount of data through the pipe. again, not going to get tech guru, just know they charge you for the same bandwidth aldephia gave you, at a higher price. they can say the speeds are higher, and in many cases they can be. if you read the disclaimer for the service, it clearly states "up to" so and so speed. not that it can maintain that speed, just that it can be "up to". cable line only carries so much data, whether it be analog or digital. so in essence, when your neighbor is downloading huge files or is saturating the hubs bandwidth, you will see cut-outs. its my understanding they are totally digital now, but there may still be parts that are not. with HDTV in the mix, this is almost sure to happen. digital communications are not perfect and a lot of times they drop data to do a "catch up to real time" type operation. other than the above, even if not so likely, it can still be on your end. time warner will be sure to tell you this, even if they dont know, so good luck with that. time warner tried to fit a square plug in a round hole.

Thank you, local, for your enlightening explanation. Is there anything consumers can do about this? To pay so much money for such poor service is unacceptable. If a product doesn't work properly you can return it to the store. Dealing with service providers isn't so easy.

recent facebook dialogue complaints are the same. People calling TW to complain about their high price and lousy service/reception. Some people actually got discounts only after learning that they were being charged the wrong rate. When they asked if TW was ever going to correct the problem, they were told by TW that only if they received a call from the customer. Wonder how many people out in tv land are paying higher rates and not realizing that they're being overcharged.

My issue isn't so much with the cost(as ridiculous as it is.) It's with the service.

Basic went up to $11.50/month. oh well, I will just have to keep my pennies to afford such a whopping increase.
