"Safty net yes" but now a way of life. I remember when people, myself included, took what jobs were there until could get better work. I have heard people say " I won't take mill work it to degrading" " I won't work nights I have a social life" " I need weekend's off in summer I go to SPAC {Saratoga Performing Arts Center}. It's better on welfare or i don't get as much but I don't have to work for it.

I was a teenage mom. I didnt take a dime from the state!!! Either work for your needs.. or go without. If it means going hungry or homeless, to bad its your own fault. Welfare enables these people to be lazy. ANYBODY can justify a reason to go on welfare! All of us!! We have all had hardships in our lives. Its called life. What are we going to do when the hard workers say Screw it... I lost a loved one, and my back hurts... clearly I cant work. Poor me Im so sore and depressed. Gag me!! Who are they going to take money from to give to the poor if no body works and everybody is poor??? Shut up, stop complaining, get off your duff, and do something so your not just a useless blob!! And stop going to the hospital for every little hang nail!! Nobody Cares!!

Well said lady , well said. I was a teenaged mother and a widow and the welfare office would not give me any help . I had to do it on my own. I have been widowed twice and with children both times to finish raising. Now, if I had walked into the the welfare office and said, "I don't know who DE DADDY BE." I would have gotten all kinds of help. This crap needs to stop. I wish that we would get a leader in this country that would put a stop to this laziness .

Of course Welfare should be taken away, however that will never happen. You have so many "poor" people that are abusing the system and and any President that pulls the plug would NEVER get reelected to another term. "Those People" on welfare have taken advantage of the system and now sit back and enjoy better benefits than those of us who work everyday trying to pay the bills. Think about what they get:

1. Free or low income housing
2. Food Stamps
3. Money every month to sustain their drug habbits. And those that receive those drugs usually sell them.
4. Free Cell phones
5. Free education
6. Free Medical

So why after being on welfare for 10 years would they come off? I know of a lady that has been living on welfare for over 18 years!!!! Talk about taking advantage of the system.... I am sick of people taking advantage of the system and nobody doing anything about it. Just my .02

End of Movie: You have AIDS from your welfare receiving father that raped you while on welfare and was either gay, or injecting drugs using welfare money to pay for the drugs.

Reality: Now the tax payers have to pay for medical bills because the subject has AIDS and has no job or medical insurance.

Just make it illegal to shack up on welfare and do random drug testing and these pigs that think they are independant feminist will die off fast.Remember if there were no immoral skanks there would be very little welfare.

When we were on welfare in the early 60s you had to write everything down you bought with the check.you couldn't own a car .and tv..They would check on you every month. When my sister turn 5 my mother went to work.and she raise 8 of us by herself..she was to proud to be on welfare.They didn't have all these hand outs like they do today.Back then if you didn't have the money you went with out it.Any one welfare should be forbidden to buy beer , cigarettes,lottery tickets.one thing the state should do is take ,the rent and the unities out of the check and give that person whats ever left over ...And they should make them earn that check. like the do in New Jersey.And make them write down everything they bought with the check and hand it in each month...some people on welfare have better tvs than I do and I have bust to my butt off.Once the kid start school they should be kick off welfare.Make them go to work.so who care if they have to work at a fast food place its a job..If they are boyfriend and girl friend one can work during the day and the other can work at night so there is adult with the kids.the State should also stop this free day care for the ones on welfare too while the mother sit home on her butt all day while the kid is in day care.If she wanted the kid then she should support it...And go after these god dam fathers and make them pay support their kids.The whole problem with this country now days they make the poor feel sorry for them self.They don't have to be poor they can work them self up the ladder.so what if you don't have a brand car or all this other stuff.If you want it work for it!!!!

"OVER 18 YEARS" sure is a short time. I would like to know the record for multi generational on welfare. I remember when Democrats were pushing for welfare reform {IE with Dem's means give them more} said in Philadelphia have had familys on welfare from before the war {IE Civil war or over 120 years if you like}

There should be a limit, time limit for welfare for able bodied people. say about 6 months to get their acts together. Just like a baby bird, they will fly.

That is crazy that the government would allow someone to take advantage of a system that was put in place to help you during a trying period for 120 years. That is it...I am running for President.

Instead of food stamps they should go back to food surplus, if there is none. They should limit what you can buy. No frozen foods like pizza no sweets like candy cake no soda only juice..Healthy foods, Welfare people should have drug test. not a piss test. Those are easy to past. Blood work every 4 months SSI should be structured so, That those on it are working to improve there disability, Such as counciling or physical therapy, so that they might be able to work one day...

Yes. Let's go back to the poor farm concept, that way people would work to not end up there unless they had no other choice.
