Plan to repeal profanity law has people talking

NOT that I support nasty, vuglar profanity - but if Norfolk can do this what about the wonderful, family, friendly, no cussing, no cruising, no alcohol VB oceanfront?

Say any four letter word you want. Just make sure you mention the name of Jesus because thats a violation of the Constitution and the ACLU will have you thrown in jail.

I think the Mayor and anyone who agrees with him that it is ok to use profanity in public are way off base. The next thing they will say , it is ok to have sex with a child, or it is ok to go naked in public. I am not a bible thumper , but I was brought up to give respect in order to get respect. I believe in freedom of speech, but not in the right to offend others for no reason. Just to be using profanity in public because your vocabulary is short and you cant think of any other words, is not right.Repeal the law and I WILL STILL TELL ANYONE , EVEN THE MAYOR, I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR YOUR FILTH. Keep God on our side and teach what Our parents taught.(Respect)

The First Amendment is there to protect the speech that people don't like. If it only protected popular speech, there would be no need for it, as nobody would want to ban it anyway. Just because you find a word offensive doesn't give you the right to make saying it illegal.

I will be able to use the "N" word? I want to say that word like it was my middle name!

The First Admendment gives the right of people to speak out against the government without fear of reprisal.It was never intended to protect the "f" word.

The word Reggin (get it) cannot be a term of endearment for one group of people, and yet still be offensive if said outside of the group of people....

Look, "Billy". The simple fact is people like yourself are the problem here. You get 'offended' over a word and want government to come rescue you from the mean people with a fine. Get over yourself. If you insist people treat you a specific way, why not create a club made out in your name. Then you can be as oppressive and dictatorial as your small black heart desires.
