My husband and I currently live in Indiana, close to Cincinnati, OH and there's too much city life around here for us. We want to move west to live a more rural lifestyle. We've narrowed it down to Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Iowa,(with Nebraska being our top choice). Any good areas for employment, ranching, horses, etc. My husband is a horseshoer and I a kitchen designer,(I would welcome and career change). Any advice? TIA

We have a devil of a time getting a farrier to come - we live in NE Nebraska - not too far from Norfolk. Guy we get drives 50 miles to our place - he gets $25/head.

Can't get that email to go through. So doing response here. I do have the yello pages scanned - if you email me at haukolajake@yahoo.com will send it.
Hi Alli - We have one miniature, one Classic Shetland - and the $25 is just for a trim. I don't know what the charge is for shoes.
Every once in a while I see an add for farm help in the paper - we are not really in a ranching area - all the cows are in feedlots. I am originally from Ainsworth and there is more ranching out there.(It is in the middle of Nebraska) Don't know about employment in Ainsworth - it's pretty small - does have a hospital and nursing home.(I was a nursing home administrator for many years)
We are 50 miles from Norfolk - there is a 2 year college there, Wayne has a 4 year. They employ quite a few people. Wayne has 2 "lumber companies" and they both have people who help with designing. Norfolk has a Menards.
I know a couple opened a really nice place (in Wayne) that sold carpets, drapes etc - they didn't last very long - just not enough business.
I am going to try and scan a yellow page - for interior designers. Will send it in separate email. Hope this helps -(I love living in Nebraska - biggest city I ever lived in was St. Louis and wouldn't trade it for our old house in the country for anything)

Not sure about SD, have some friends there, but the employment options seem limited.

wisner nebraska is a great for a horseshoer as there are 750,00 cattle on feed and horses that need to be shod to ride pens with shoers not being able to keep up at 100.00 a pop I worked at the feedyards for 15 years and now been beaten to the point that i install kitchens for the kithen place in norfolk and always looking for sales and designers talk to mark or chuck great money

Hi. I am with Elkhorn Valley Economic Development Council. Our office is located in Norfolk. Not only do we cover Norfolk, we cover 14 other communities in the counties of Antelope, Pierce, Stanton and Madison. We provide many services and will help in any way we can. Please see our website: www.elkhornedc.com

In addition, I am involved with the Norfolk Area Recruiters (NAR). We have a data base that lists many job opportunities. Please visit: www.norfolkarea.org . You will see the tabs to the far left, one is "Job Listings."

I will be happy to assist you and your husband in any way I can. I agree with what was mentioned earlier, we have a tremendous amount of cattle yards here and farriers are always needed! Also, we have many active horse 4H programs- so horses are everywhere!

When is your target date to make this move?

I am a horseshoer who is looking to move to the midwest. I have worked cattle, team roped, sorted cattle, team penned, and live the horseman lifestyle. I am also into hunting (deer, birds, and ducks). I would like to know more about shoeing for the feedlots. Thank you

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Sagittarius

Watch out. Your mind is working overtime in full analytical mode, but you may be leaping to unfounded conclusions and reading too much into situations. The result of all this is that you might start to suspect someone's honesty or loyalty, and wonder what exactly they're up to. Don't accuse them of anything awful just yet because it may turn out that you were totally wrong about them.
