I went into the one on M'boro Road this morning and didn't notice the huge "30% off sale, store closing" sign until I left out. I did notice the shelves were somewhat empty. I went in for juice and milk so no problems there. I am hurt that this store is closing, I really enjoyed shopping there and the sales.

Wouldn't hurt my feelings if they closed them all! Rudest clerks, if you can find 1 to check you out!

The one in Portland has some very nice clerks. Most of the time they will ask if I need help and they will carry my food out and put it in my car. Very nice group of men and women. Hope this one doesn't close. All we would have then would be H.G. Hills, which is so high. I don't shop there very oftened. Can't afford it. I hate any of them closing, that means even more people out of jobs. We don't need that.

Food Lion wasn't "caught" bleaching, they were smeared by ABC News, which sent producers in to pose as workers and stage the alleged offenses, with the help of disgruntled union thugs which had just lost an NLRB election. Food Lion sued ABC for fraud and was awarded $5.5 million.

I have worked for Hannaford for 17 years now. When Delhaize bought out Hannaford in 2000 there was a great amount of concern among many Hannaford associates and customers about how this out standing supermarket chain will be effected. When word came out that the parent company of food lion was taking over I have to say I was not happy at all to hear this. worked for. Associates who feel they are being compensated fairly and being treated with respect are going to be happier at work, leading to much better productivity and outstanding customer service. When Delhaize purchased Hannaford Supermarks in 2000, they must have seen how well the chain was doing so they left Hannaford alone and announced that Hannaford was still going to operate as it's own entity. While Hannaford was bring in nice profits from it's fine stores, food lion continued to suffer. I have heard from a number of credible sources how poorly Food Lion treats it's employees. This of course leads to terrible customer service. Poor customer service equals thounds of dollars a week lost in sales. Hope you like that savings food lion. Over and over I have heard and read accounts on how dirty food lion stores are. The company obviously does not want to pay the money for the hours it takes to keep a store clean. So just let the store be dirty and lose thousands in sales a week because people don't want to shop in a dirty store. They dont want to spend money on having a sufficient amount of cashiers working making customers wait in lines far too long. If a cashier has an issuse it's hard for them to get help because the front end supervisor is often tied up helping customers due to a lack of help. This puts too much stress on the supervisor making them very unhappy with thier job. Getting a beating from unhappy customers because the company they work for is too cheap to have enough help on. That is enough to make just about anybody nasty. Well look what food lion gets for being so greedy and cheap. Once again they are closing 100's of stores that are not performing well. As far as I am concerned a company who treats it's help poorly like food lion deserves every bit of this. This company continually shoots it's self in the foot with it's greed and lack of respect to thowes who work for them. 10 Years after Delhaize bought Hannaford they have decided to take over operations of Hannaford and it already is having a negitive impact on Hannaford stores. I left Hannaford for 11 months for personal reasons after working for the company for 14 years. When I was rehired I was told the Hannaford policy at that time reguarding how much vacation time I would ern based on my years of service. That was that after I had been back a year I would be granted my 14 years of service back meaning I would get my 4 years of vacaion a year back. Delhaize changed the policy 8 months later and told me that my 14 years of service from before will not count towards my vacation time and that I had to start all over again from the date of my second rehire. So when I hear that food lion is closing stores due to lack of business i hate to say this but it really brings a smile to my face. Their unethical, cheap ways of doing business is getting them no ware, and after what they did to me I am loving every minute of it. Hannaford was such an outstanding company and sales are already started to have a negative trend with delhaize taking over. Raises are much lower, they demand stores use less hours meaning fewer people are working to serve customers. I wonder if its going to get to the point where the stores start getting dirty because they want to cut on maintenance hours. I guess we shall wait and see.
