Karen, what's even more ridiculous is how illegals actually feel THEY have a right to be here. I have no problem with LEGAL immigrants. Come here LEGALLY and CONTRIBUTE to the American society -- not FEED OFF IT like leeches and turn our beautiful neighborhoods into trash and drug infested barrios. Look at the Koreans and Chinese immigrants in our county. They come here legally, set up eateries, shops and dry cleaners, all legally, paying their taxes and NEVER DEMANDING anything they won't work for themselves. You can't say that about the illegals in question here. I fully support this reform in that I hope it creates an atmosphere in which illegals feel unwelcome in Prince William County, which is where I live. Oh, and by the way, I am Mexican by heritage -- five generations ago, my family came here legally, worked hard (not on welfare) and we can't stand you filthy blood sucking mojados!

Why not enforce our laws? By Greg Letiecq Potomac News Tuesday, July 10, 2007 How long are we to quietly suffer the effects of the large number of illegal aliens present in our communities? How much tolerance are American citizens required to exhibit towards residential overcrowding, street gangs, violent crime, identity theft and the transformation of our community into something that resembles the third world -- all problems that are related to the tens of thousands of illegal aliens we have in our midst -- before we have adequately proven our multi-cultural credentials? What price are we required to pay to manage the burdens on our public safety agencies, our schools, our hospitals and other taxpayer funded or supported services to demonstrate that we are adequately compassionate to the plight of those who willfully break our laws and then demand that we open our wallets to subsidize their unlawful behavior? If we fail to shield illegal aliens from the consequences of their unlawful behavior, are we less American, or perhaps even less Christian? Or are we just reasonable? Gainesville Supervisor John Stirrup has heard the hundreds, if not thousands of citizens who contend that we have been patient enough, generous enough and tolerant enough only to be rewarded for our patience, generosity and tolerance with an ever-accelerating dismantlement of the communities we live in. The flood of illegal aliens continues unabated, encouraged by local policies which have the effect of perpetuating their unlawful presence in our communities and encouraging more illegal aliens to come. John Stirrup understands that in order to begin dealing with this outrage, we must alter the conditions that make Prince William County a comfortable and inviting place for illegal aliens to reside. His novel plan, which has the illegal alien lobby up in arms, is to simply ensure that Prince William County is in strict compliance with state and federal laws. In cases where public benefits are restricted by law only to citizens and legal residents, we will actually ask applicants whether they're illegal aliens or not. Police officers will inquire about the legal status of all detainees as is allowed under the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996. Under this proposal, the county will participate in the Section 287(g) Program under the Immigration and Nationality Act of 2005, as the regional jail currently does, a proposal that even the Chief of the Prince William County Police Department supports. Does the proposal take away benefits from anyone who is entitled to them currently? Not at all. Does it dictate that the police department start performing immigration enforcement raids in minority communities? Not a chance. Does it dictate policies that would put the county on a collision course with the Supreme Court's 1982 Plyer v. Doe decision which awards illegal alien minors with the privilege of a taxpayer-funded education in our public school system regardless of the resources that might otherwise be dedicated to educating the children of legal residents and citizens? Sadly, no. We will continue to burden our teachers with maintaining control over increasingly dangerous and disruptive students instead of teaching our children because it is seemingly preferable to having them outside of the classroom where parents would otherwise be responsible for controlling their behavior. Our system of taxpayer-funded daycare for illegal aliens at the expense of our own children's education is not threatened by Supervisor Stirrup's proposal. So what is the illegal alien lobby so fearful of? Perhaps that we might actually enforce the laws that we have in this country. Greg Letiecq is the president of Help Save Manassas.

Karen,
What is even more ludicrous is that ILLEGAL mojados actually think THEY have a right to be here!
I have no problem with LEGAL immigrants coming here and CONTRIBUTING to the American society, NOT FEEDING OFF IT LIKE FILTHY BLOODSUCKERS!
The Korean and Chinese immigrants in our once-great county came here legally, set up businesses, pay taxes and actually offer services to the community. What do filthy mojados do? Come here, get some girl pregnant so they can have an "anchor baby," steal someone's ID and apply for welfare.
Enough said.

I am so sick of these folks DEMANDING a d*mned thing---I live in a gorgeous prince willima neighborhood --- then about 1 year ago 20 illegals rented a home across the street- they would party, sleep on the front lawn, leave corona bottles everywhere -needless to say I had to call the police several times - as did other neighbors (b/c they were right at the front of the community- everyone had to pass them daily)--- they just moved---- I have to keep my two kids in private school ($2800 per month) becuase the schools are getting overcrowded with non-english speakers - so therefore class achievment is suffering ---it;s a mess--- and let's not even talk about going to the hospital --- it;'s like casting call for every sick illegal baby in the county --- oh my child had a broken arm (6 years old)--- and we had to wait FOREVER for a dr to see us because other illegals were intehre with minor sicknesses---- I say its time to really be fair to those who are her legally --- and for those who aren't - sayonara' baby--I worked too doggone hard for my life/property values/education and health system to go down the tubes. I live in the Gainesville district and I an GLAD that someone finally had the balls to do something!

For the record, I am vehemently and unequivocally protesting any kind of general amnesty for the millions of illegal immigrants in the U.S. And then have them become eligible for American citizenship without lifting a finger? Has our Government gone crazy? What kind of message are we sending the world; to the hundreds of thousands of immigrants who have petitioned, or are being sponsored to enter the U.S. legally? I, for one, am so outraged at this whole immigration thing—to put it mildly—that I’m ready to go to Washington and vent my ire on our Government officials. My reason? Please read on and you’ll understand. I’m glad that Prince William County is doing something about this, even though I live in another part of Virginia. I am a Naturalized American since 1954, and I earned my citizenship the old-fashioned way—I put my life on the line for the service of the U.S. military, here and abroad. I turned 81 in January of this year and by the grace of God, still in relatively good health. When I was barely 18 years of age, I fought against the Japanese, side by side with the Americans during World War II; first as a guerilla fighter and then as a scout for several months with the U.S. Army 7th Cavalry Regiment during mopping up operations in Luzon until the surrender of the Japanese Imperial Forces. After the war, I was erroneously drafted into military service because of the impending conflict in Korea (the Cold War era), despite my objections that I was NOT an American citizen. I lost the argument and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force to avoid getting drafted into the U.S. Army. I served honorably for almost 10 years—not counting the time with the guerrillas because I was not a citizen then—and was honorably discharged. A private bill was introduced and signed by the then President Dwight D. Eisenhower to grant me my American citizenship. Because of my particular position in the military that required me to serve overseas (mostly in Europe) and forbidden to communicate with anyone outside the Continental United States, I lost track of my family. It was 53 years later, in the year 2000, when I finally was able to reunite with my family in Manila. When I left home in 1947, my younger brother Ernie and one sister were teenagers, and my other younger sisters were preteens. Another younger brother Jose, was just a baby. When I saw them again in 2000, they were all grandparents. In fact my youngest brother Ricardo and youngest sister Betty were not even born when I left home. Now, I’ve been trying to get my youngest sister Betty, who presently lives in Japan, to come to the U.S. and live with me and my American wife of 41 years. Betty is college educated, has a degree in Education and speaks 3 languages fluently (English, Tagalog and Japanese). She would be a tremendous asset to any community in the U.S.(or anywhere else, for that matter), and not become a ward of the state like so many of these damned illegal immigrants who are enjoying the good old American life in the U.S. at our expense. I submitted my petition in March of 2001. It’s been over six years since I submitted my petition for Betty and we still have not heard from Immigration about her status because the 1-800 number in Vermont—where I submitted my petition—is menu based (busy line most of the time) and does not permit the caller to speak to a human. I tried to get help from my local Congressman Rick Boucher, but I could not even see him in person. I had to deal with his secretary, here in Pulaski, who, after a cursory inquiry, informed me that there was nothing the Congressman could do; and that Betty would just have to wait her turn, which leaves me extremely disappointed, angry, while twiddling my thumbs. So, yes, I’m ticked off about this about this immigration fiasco? Thank you so much for listening, and have a GREAT day.

"His novel plan, which has the illegal alien lobby up in arms, is to simply ensure that Prince William County is in strict compliance with state and federal laws."
There is an "illegal alien lobby?" Who knew!
Really, that's ludicris! How can it even be possible to register as an "illegal alien lobbiest?" Wouldn't INS be right on you?
I much prefer to see this discussed in a rational way. As a nation of immigrants, we have to embrace the opportunity it represents; however, as a nation at risk in a post 9/11 world, we also have to recognize the security risks illegal immigration presents. Let's face it, almost all of the 9/11 hijackers were here on visas, albeit expired visas, but here at least initially, legally. That says two things: 1) we need to do a much better job of accounting for every non-citizen who comes in and making sure they leave ON TIME; and, 2) that the most dangerous visitors has the resources to come in legally. Seemingly, people who plan on dying for a cause are more than willing to document their idenity.
That leaves illegal immigration as the tool of the hardworking poor who are less concerned with destroying our economy and infrastructure than with seizing an opportunity to better their lives and the lives of their children by washing our toilets, cultivating our fields, and oh yes, babysitting our children.

Wow! The response to Ms. Sanchez's horribly misspelled, poorly conceived argument is overwhelming and right on spot. Most American citizens have had it with illegal aliens flooding into the country and I applaud the Prince William County Board of Supervisors for taking the strong action necessary to deal with this problem. It is "illegal" immigration targeted -- once you jump that fence you are here under the law and assume NO rights. The U.S. likewise has no responsibility to assume the societal problems of a neighboring country. We owe these law breakers nothing. Send everyone here illegally back -- no matter the hassle or cost involved. If we don't, our culture as we know it will change irrevocably.

Ha ha...I laughed out loud at the name "Rational Thinking in VA." I wonder what color the sky is in the world you're living in.
You are right -- these nasty illegals are all about an opportunity: an opportnity for a free ride and handout while they leech off of and abuse our system here! While the "hardworking poor" may not be so concerned with toppling our economy or decimating our infrastructure, make no mistake: these pinche mojados know EXACTLY what they're doing when they engage in identity theft and move 20 people into a townhouse built to sustain a family of three or four. They calculate as they come across, planning to impregnate the first woman they come across in order to have an "anchor baby." They are not as innocent as you portray them to be. Sure, when you see them on the news, crying because "La Migra" is "tearing apart" their family by deporting the illegals and leaving the kids here, please realize that these roaches knew the consequences of coming here illegally yet they chose to put those children at risk of seperation anyway. Why? Because here, they can get welfare, free emergency room medical care and an education ALL at OUR expense. I am glad that is changing!!!!!!
And people can stop with the whole "they do jobs we don't want to" bullshit. They are taking jobs that teens and the elderly in my community are trying to get but can't because Pedro and his cousins have infested this area.
Oh, and yes, I'm of Mexican heritage, though generations ago, my family did things the proper and LEGAL way when they decided to come to this country. And I, and other LEGAL immigrants (come one, come all if you are LEGAL!)DETEST these parasites.
For the record, I wash my own toilet and I would never let a criminal come anywhere near my child. If you do, that says a lot about your parenting skills, Mr./Mrs. "Rational"

I don't understand why bothering so much, about inmigrants, we all work, pay taxes, we all are god sons and daughters, this is most descrimination and racism, this is a free country that people can work, to support our families, also police migth abuse their power, and whenever they see a foreing person will approach them and ask them for their legal status, that's stupid, just mind you all business, i bet whoever wants this law to be active go to church every sunday, acting all clean . but you know that god watch all our movements. stop this inmigration laws. let people work in peace without fear to go outside. don't descriminate don't hate, that is against the law...........
