Shaleman, you have to purchase the textbooks but don't do until after the classes start. I bought a couple of books last semester that we never used. If you're on facebook look up their page, some students including me should be putting the books up for sale. Also in reference to the job market, there is a good website called rigzone.com that posts oil related jobs in the US, offshore, and overseas.

Oh, even better question! WHAT types of jobs are people getting hired for? Anyone going into drilling or MWD? I really want to know this. Check out EOG Resources...website, careers listed...they are currently drilling in San Antonio, Midland, Bowie, Cooke County and many other places

Oh, even better question! WHAT types of jobs are people getting hired for? Anyone going into drilling or MWD? I really want to know this. South Texas is really not a safe place to work these days, why on earth would you want to be down there? They have armed guards at the work sites. If you want to be on a drilling rig, whether on land or off shore, don't waste your time or money on a college degree. All you need is muscle not brain matter. If you are wanting to use your brain and not your back then go through the program and get a good job in the Oil & Gas industry. People that have graduated with the Associates degree have gotten jobs immediately with companies like Chevron and Marathon, working in West Texas around Midland, Odessa, Lubbock, and San Antonio. Go look at websites for companies like Devon, EOG, Encana, Duke, XTO, Chesapeak, etc... That will give you an idea of where the jobs are and what's available. They all post openings on their websites.

So whatever is going to pay the most is what I want to explore and rig operations PAY as we all know. The flipside is that its a waste of an education which I already have lots of.

Most rig jobs have no benefits, nada. So when you are looking at pay you need to look at the whole picture. They work 14 on 14 off, or some similar combination, so again look at the whole picture you only get paid when you work. The jobs you will be looking at through this program have insurance, sick days, vacation days, 401K, company trucks, uniforms, good pay, and a chance for advancement and ability to travel through transfers to other job openings within the same company. So you need to make sure you are comparing Apples to Apples, when you are looking at a job on a rig to the jobs that will be open to you once you complete this degree.
