18-year-old faces sex charges involving girl, 14

This is pretty rediculous. Ben is a great guy, and since these parents daughter obviously is promiscuous, they shouldn't take it out on Ben. She said it was consensual, so really I think that him being charged with rape, or sex with a minor and having 2-8 years in jail because these parents can't keep their daughter in control is rediculous.

It's good to see that the Catholic Church has learned humility from 50 years of a constantly-shrinking flock. Perhaps holding "church doctrine" over the heads of the faithful as a sword to intimidate them into submission isn't as effective as it used to be. Well, you guys sure rocked during the Inquisition, but times change, eh? I'll bet my bottom dollar that if the church stopped claiming to have a hotline to God's inner mind, they might fare a bit better in the marketplace for people's souls and offerings.

Oh, yay! Another story about how incompetent parents seek help from the state to keep their child in check because they're incapable of doing it themselves. If you disagree with the actions that your child is taking, then you, as a parent, need to step up and take care of your child. Don't use the state to punish the actions of others because you're too fucking stupid and lazy to control your own child.

Well then call it being put in jail for not controlling himself. A law is a law. DOn't do the crime if you can't do the time.

He may be a great guy I do not know him. Did he know her age? If so he was taking his fate in his own hands.He knew could get in trouble. But what I am confused about is why is everyone calling her names she stood up and said I wanted to do this,even though the law says she is too young. Which if you ask me she is and just as easy he could have said no. He didn't have to take what a child was offering him. If he is a great guy than he should have had no problem being with a girl his age right? Why condem just the girl.

I don't get this...an 18 year old can get a prison sentence for having consensual with a 14 year old, yet 25 year old women have 60 year old men all the time...and thats a 35 year gap...wtf

The legal age of consent is 16, so by law you can not have sex with anyone under that age, or it is statutory rape, unless parents give their consent. Obvioiusly these parents didn't.

The reason is that the state has set forth a law to protect children from being pressured by an adult to have sex and in IN that is 16. It is not the gap but the age. Had she been 16 than this would not be an issue.

this is stupid..they need to let him out of prison b/c he doesnt deserve to be there. Ben would hurt a fly..he one of the sweetest guys i have ever met..the girl is obviously the ridiculous one...she is fourteen and she snuck out- she knew what she was getting herself into.

Ben is 18 years old. He is an adult. Therefore, he is responsible for his own actions, and he is responsible for knowing the law.

The girl is a minor. This means that her parents are responsible for her actions, as well as her well-being.

An 18 year old has NO reason to have sex with a 14 year old. You "friends" of Ben need to educate yourselves on the laws, and also get your head out of the middle ages. A girl dressing or acting in a seductive manner does not magically make a man's pants fly off and make him have sex with her.

Ben is an adult. Ben chose to break the law. And therefore, Ben chose to face the possibility of jail time. Unfortunately for him, he got caught and has to bear responsibility for his actions.

Funny a few days a go ,everyone was whining about how awful it was that someone in georgia was in prison for the same crime and how he should be released.
