Actually, it was the Colonial Beach Chamber of Commerce who put on the event. This was the second year for " The Beachball". Yes, it was very nice.

I would like to thank the Chamber of Commerce for spending all that money in Maryland. How many people attended and how much of the money did Colonial Beach receive.
Dont we have places in town for such events. You want everyone else to support business in Colonial Beach, but the Chamber sets the example to give Maryland our money.
How many more groups plan on using the Riverboat for their events?
Support your local merchants, should be the Chamber of Commerce motto.

Ms. Moeser,

You are running for what??? Do you do your homework before you make statements like this about the Riverboat and Chamber of Commerce? The Riverboat is the ONLY place in town to hold an event that large. The Riverboat employees the largest amount of people in Colonial Beach. I am surely not voting for you and I sincerely hope anyone else reading this would do the same.

Ms. Moeser, over 200 people from our community came out in support of our local Chamber. The money raised went to four of our local non-profits: The Humane Society, the CB Education Foundation and the Fire and Rescue Squads.

The Riverboat is the only facility in our town that can currently accommodate a function of that size and "grandeur". The Riverboat is also a dues paying member of our organization, holds a Director of the Chamber on its staff and employs a large percentage of our population.

As a Director for the Chamber, I take offense to your stance of our lack of support for our local merchants. The Chamber has grown significantly over the past few years, and we are striving to better our organization with every new event and program that we endeavor upon.

I would hope that you, with a potential Town Council seat in your future, would have a much different opinion of our business community, especially one that you would expect votes from.

Respectfully,

Michele Fulton
Director, CB Chamber of Commerce

give em hell Tommie...screw Maryland, let's not forget it's a Northern State. The river should have been divided right down the center anyways...to the victor goes the spoils I guess.
And let me say this, if gambling is our town's biggest employer, we have some problems don't we?

Rebecca: Please do your homework, last I heard the Riverboat was in Maryland. Has that changed???
If I am wrong I will apologize.
I am running for Town Council and my interest is with the TOWN. How can we get new business in Town, when even the Chamber of Commerce does not support them.

Rebecca and Mr. Fulton:
I thought The Riverboat was in Maryland. Since you both say its in our town and is the only facility than can only accomodate more than 200 people at $150.00.(we have great resturants that have catering service for these events).
What about your luncheon meeting, are there to many to go to a local resturant, and you have to go to the Riverboat for regular meetings.
What does is the definition of Chamber of Commerce?? I am very confused about what your mission statement says. You should have forgone the hoopla and given the money directly to the charities, everyone would have gotten more of the rewards. Then you were not seen or gotten the praise you want.
I am running for Town Council and I will never be one of the "good ole boys". If this is what you want then I hope you dont vote for me, you will be disappointed in me, as I am in you.
There are lots of citizens at Colonial Beach that could not afford to participate in your event, including me, this says you are an elitist organization.
I need to shut up now.
Respectfully yours
Tommie Moeser

Sorry the Chamber does not take food stamps, What a thought process Ms Moeser, lets take from the rich and give it all to the poor folks of Colonial Beach. How dare the Chamber put on an event that cost money. Next you are going to tell me you have to pay to fish in the Fire Department Rockfish tournament

Thank you, Mr. Fulton, for your input. I am a strong supporter of the business community, and believe that the Chamber is of vital importance to the Town. While technically the Riverboat is in Maryland, the fundraiser was for the benefit of the Town charities. Condemning the Chamber and the Riverboat for holding this function is, in my opinion, inappropriate. Those who are unable to attend such a function can certainly donate to these charities through other ways. But it is not right to condemn those who choose to participate.

The chamber WOULD BE of vital importance if they followed the National CC

Google Chamber of Commerce.
Re read Tommie Moeser's post.
Is it Mr or Ms Fulton.
Good luck Karen Payne in your pandering for votes.
They want people like you on council.

Ms. Moeser,

Let me take your response piece by piece. Yes, the Riverboat is in Maryland, however, it is a vital source of employment for our town, which is an item not to be overlooked. Yes, there are restaurants that cater, but where would you have the guests gather and be served?

The Chamber of Commerce does not hold luncheon meetings--you must have us confused with another organization. In addition, the other functions the Chamber holds, such as our Annual Awards Ceremony, are spread around our local establishments. Last year it was held at High Tides on the Potomac and this year at The Happy Clam.

The goal of our Chamber is to strengthen our business community (which you should be very concerned with as a potential public servant of the Town). If we had "forgone the hoopla" we would not have made any money to donate to the charities...that was the point of the event.

I don't believe the Chamber acts as an "elitist organization" in any capacity. The Beach Ball was attended by various business owners, private citizens and members of our current Town government, including the Mayor and 3 Council members. We all gathered to support our local non-profits and strengthen our community. I would hope that you would see the importance of our organization and its goal to help our town improve in various outlets. May I also point out that the Chamber and Town government work simultaneously on several functions, some you may very well be involved with in the future. I fear that your obstinate, and in my opinion, ill-mannered statments may do you harm in the upcoming election.

I thank the above posters for the support of our Chamber, and look forward to working with you in the future. On a lighter note, my name is Michele, not Michael, Fulton.:)

Regards,

Michele Fulton

If you are so narrow minded as not to see the benefits of the Riverboat and calling the individuals that support the Chamber of Commerence and their goals a "elitist Organization" and that helping the LOCAL Volunteer Organization as being a "good ole boys" network I sincerely doubt your campain of What is best for Colonial Beach.
You have identified yourself as one of the very few people that I know that takes them "2 hours to watch 60 minutes"

M. Fulton - I sincerely apologize for referring to you as "Mr." Fulton. I was responding to another post which referred to you as "Mr.".

I thank you for your response and even-handed approach. As another write-in candidate for Town Council, I reiterate that I whole-heartedly support the business community in this Town, and hope to work proactively to increase that community. I believe that the only way to keep the taxes in the Town from going sky-high is to bring in more business. I would love to discuss my ideas with you further, and hear from the Chamber any additional ideas you may have.

And LOL, this is not pandering, it's called democracy, where an honest exchange of ideas is encouraged, not disparaged.

Karen
