Jim would probably make a good supervisor I am sure and could make many changes as long as the other 6 members go along. It's not too late for you to file for a position either. The clerk has all the papers and I'd be happy to help you too. If I can be of any other service, let me know.

Apparently this is not the same group of "Concerned Citizens" that fought for the 2 mills to keep the township police who later opposed the 1-1/2 mills for police protection last primary. I know the original "Concerned Citizens" led by Mr. Kidwell opposes this 1 mill for the sheriff. I still believe this is only a bandaid fix to our long term problem of police services. Perhaps it will be addressed four years from now when the whole board is up for re-election.

Do not forget every arrest They make all go up to the County Jail in St Joe tied up their for aleast a few hours. And I too have seen 2 or 3 BCSD on US 12 I think they are Training on the laser. I have never seen them pull any one over tho.

I will vote NO for the Sheriff Police Millage on Nov. 4th. I do not want the Sheriff's Department working for my township. I've known people who have had these officers respond to their issues and they were either too busy to go to the calls (eating lunch), rude to them, or just didn't care. Why should I pay more money for crappy service? Do you not remember that there was a Township police department at one time? Those officers lost their jobs so that the Sheriff's department could take over (on the false pretenses that it was cheaper to go with them, but that turned out to be a lie). Now they're trying to scare the voters into voting for them because "if they don't, they won't have any police protection." Well, we really don't have any now (only 1-2 cars on at a time???) and if there's a problem then the State police would show up. I live in a closely populated area of the township and I've only seen 1 Berrien County Sheriff's Department car drive through my area since I moved here 4 years ago and that was because I called them. If everyone is worried about this, why not use that extra money the Sheriff's Department wants and help employ officers from our own area? Does it make sense to pay for officers about twenty miles away to patrol our area? You have to take into account things like gas too. Even though gas is going down, those cars are horrible on gas. If you figure 2 of those cars drive down from St. Joseph to patrol our area, then they drive someone they've arrested back to St. Joe, then drive back, etc...how much is that costing in gas money? This is just another example of the Sheriff's Department trying to monopolize the whole county. First, they take over the township police department, then they take over dispatching, then other local areas. Aren't you people worried about all of the others in our communities who have lost jobs because of the Sheriff's Department? I will NOT vote for them to mononpolize our area any more. Bring back the Township Police Department!

V, thanks for the information about the Berrien County/Niles Township Patrol. I didn't know they had to drive 20 miles down here to patrol & I didn't know all the Deputies were from the North County. Thanks again for this information, I assume it is true or the Niles Daily Star wouldn't of posted it, if it was falese!!

regarding the sheriff's department I'd like to share what I witnessed at 7:40 this morning. parked on Weaver Rd (south side of us-12) were FOUR sheriff cars, one officer was standing at the stop sign with his radar gun pointing at east bound traffic. was it really necessary for them to have FOUR cars sitting there burning gas just in case someone was speeding? this is not the first time I have seen this. NRR

I like the Picture In the Star trying to work to get the Millage,They didn't what the Millage for the Old Force.

Did U Miss the Post That Armstrong wrote?

KBT , you are so full of it. you know that the 03/04 budget included at least a half dozen more part time officers that were working full time hours and at least 3 full time patrol. this has been the problem from the start telling the whole truth not half truths.you statements are just enough to keep you from being called a liar but, you're not telling the whole story. this is why you weren't elected. name more than one of the current deputies that are from niles.
