Well, I think you should take it to court. You may get out of it and the officer will get some overtime. Win/Win for everyone!!!

1. Careful, I once again will apologize for my spelling errors. I have often posted from my cell phone when I was not home, but it has an odd spell checker on it. As it posts, it often changes words like meeting to something else. I can not go back to change it once it posts. I actually do know how to spell and speak somewhat effectively in more than one language. I will try to post from my laptop since it seems to be better.

2. Careful, I do not agree with your opinion that someone can make a good chairman and never have any experience. At least not in this particular case or the one you used as an example. This is not a business setting where the goal is to work and make a profit. In that case, I would agree. When human lives are at stake, experience is an issue. The president is given the power to start a war. I feel he should KNOW exactly what he is asking of men and women. It is their lives that are loss while his life goes on and he is safe. I feel the same about WHOEVER is chairman of the fire board. If this man does not have experience, will he know exactly what kind of safety equipment these men need? Or will he be out to keep money and cut corners? Does he know exactly what it takes to fight a fire? What level of respect will he have for these men?

3. I was told that Mr. Sorrell had two sons on JCFD. Knowing this I feel he would definately have put safety as an issue. It could easily have been one of his own boys that was lost if not. The new man lives in the district that all the issues are coming from. What role will that play?

4. The fire truck I was refering to is the ONLY ladder truck in Jessamine County. It was brought to the county around October. I saw it in the parade so I know for a fact it was here then. I read that the northerners were upset that they did not take it directly to the Bellrive station. I also was told it would not fit in the station until a wall was knocked out and other truck arrangements were made. That was not mentioned in the article. Nor was there any mention that the firemen train out of station 1 and they needed time to train on it to be SAFE and effective. Lastly, now it has been said that the north district now want that truck only available to the north district only. How is that fair to the rest of the county that the north district dictates what goes where. Once again, its all in the money.

5. Supposedly in all of the US, only Jessamine has this second tax thing. To me, that alone says something. I believe if they want this many special things they need to fund thier own department and staff it with their own money. PERIOD. If they want to use part of the county money and thier special money, then they need to share.

6. I asked if careful was a politician or held any office in the county. I am really curious on this since you seem to want me not to ask any of these questions.

7. Young people that read this, please ask questions around here. Things around us are going on and it effects us especially. Please just don't accept what we are given but expect our community to be better.

1. I didn't mean to imply that you couldn't spell. But using spell check before something posts goes a long way in making yourself clear.
2. I don't understand how you can say my example isn't valid but then cite the very reasoning behind the example as backing your position. I too feel the president should know exactly what he/she is asking of our servicemen before sending them off to war. However, the fact of the matter is that military service is NOT a prerequisite to being Commander in Chief of the armed forces. Many people suggest there be a civilian review board of law enforcement agencies. Do you feel this too would be improper unless the "civilians" had police experience?
3. The reverse arguement could also be made that by having two sons on the fire department, Mr. Sorrell's decisions would be prejudicial towards them. And I thought it was supposed to be a good thing that the new board member was from the northern fire district. Up till now, they've had no representation on the board. And the only issue (that I know of) that's come out of that area is that the extra money they were contributing was not being used as dictated by law.
4. If the north district is wanting the ladder truck restricted to their area (I say if because I'm going only by your assertation) then I suppose it's because the audit showed it was bought with money from the extra tax they pay. Since this is a requirement of law, that the extra tax money be used only for the district that contributes it, I would say they were entitled to ask this. This seems to be a problem stemming from mis-management of fire department funds, not a problem with the seperate tax itself.
5. I don't know if this is the only case of additional taxation but I doubt it. In any case, it's allowable by law so it's hardly underhanded. As someone else said, I don't think the northern district wants anything other than a better response time to fires in their area. This is not hard to understand. But if the money they were paying to achieve this was being misdirected to purchase things that don't directly affect that goal, I can understand their being upset.
6. You asked about me holding office in another thread, not this one. In that thread I responded that I was not. I have never said or implied that you shouldn't ask questions. However, I do feel that sometimes you confuse assumptions and beliefs with facts. That is dangerous. You should always be clear as to which is which.

If you want to know the truth ask ANY city employee about J.M. They will tell you what he did and tried to do to every City employee when he was down there. It's not a "good ole boy system". That was many years ago. As far as Neopotism that you are so concerned with. The employee can't be directly related to the boss. Now find one and tell me about it. As far as ethics, J.M. got his own ethics board when he was there. And there real ethical. Go ahead ask ANY city employee.

I did ask a city employee at a local store today. They definately did'nt have anything good to say about J.M.or anybody associated with him.

As I am sitting here at ye fire board meeting it is apparent to me right or wrong the people in the north district all ready hae it in their mind the res of the county owes them more.

I hae heard comments of "our ladder truck is outside. Maybe teu should put a for sale sign on it to reimburse us."

Or if there was any misconduct " I myself will have them arrested. I have friends...."

Does this sound like a room full of people that is looking for a fair logical conclusion?

My favorite is this one:

"there is a surplus in our account (north) so we can just play 7% ad still get our station the way we are asking"

so do they not realize that te rest of the county was also helping pay for thier eqipment, staff and so on.

I just want to clear up one thing here: Dennis Traynor was not appointed as the Chairman of the JCFD Board, rather a "regular" voting member. Currently Ron Eldridge is the acting Chairman until the Board elects a new Chairman from the current members.

Funny how out of everything I've posted that is the only thing you have me misquoted on. I actually was coming here to make the correct post. That meeting tonight was nothing short of a gripe fest. You all want your money and your better protection. Right?

I agree it is unfair you are over taxed but you all are the very ones that come up with the idea. Right?

You all DO indeed expect better privilidges than the rest of the county. You all want to sit and accuse the board of wrong doin but not one of you realize you are getti the same fire protection. You do have a sixty hour staffed house. Does the south end? And do not tell me we have station one. It would r
take thirty minutes to get to the end closest to garrad county too.

Why do the ff respond souch quicker during off times in other areas? Because they actually have volunteers that live in that district. Unfortunately you all have like two that actually live in southern Lexington that is the closest. Maybe innstead of asking for more taxes raised you all need to get some of the younger home owners to take 150+ hours out ofther personal lives and become a volunteer. If you had a volunteer 300 yards away from the station then you automatically would have a " staffed station" equal to the rest of te counties between 8pm and 8am. Right?

I really want to know why during this whole meeting you all were upset about te fire truck. It is illegal ( and everyone does wan to go by krs codes) then the county couldn't help with any percent of the payment. If you didn't like it why didn't anyone stand up and ask rupard why he bought it. From my understanding the ff wanted a new rescue truck but it was rupards final say on he ladder truck.

I can't tell you how many people say the rest of us in the county "owe" you all in the north district. Even funnier was how you all boo'ed one of the ff because he wasn't threatenig you with no protection. He was asking if you all knew what you were to doing the ff morale by constantly questionig how they do their job. Like the second one said nobody comes in your kitchen to tell you how to cook. Right?

I personally feel if you all are so unhappy then quit paying taxes. I dare say after how you have talked about the ff very few would work for your station exclusively I'm fear of treatment. Those boys would not hesitate to save a person no matter what. They are a fine bunch of men. It's time to quit your witch hint and get on one side of the fence. Either you want the same as everybody else has ( which is what your frying and it's not good enough for you all but those that live in trailers .... Right wasn't that the correct reference). Or staff your own station. Train your own men. Buy your own equipment. But when your two men an one truck can't handle what you paid for call lexington. Apparently jcfd is just not good enough for you.

I think I heard enough tonight. I know you all may think you are the majority in the district money wise but I or news for you all. I am young. I am not as wealthy as you all. There are more of us poor people that you all are protecting. I think I'm goin to start going door to door about the politicians that care about the little man. Not the wealthy man who is too good to be a volunteer ff but wants to put the ones that are down. Wonder how quickly you all may see your bought votes really will go if those givig into you so easily is no longer in office. Lol.

By the way appauding the ff was a nice touch. Saying thank you was also. But then dogging them every other word... Actions speak louder than words... Remember that.

I realize they also bought a fire truck. I want you to also realize that there are other people besides the north district that need represented. I sat at a table last night with at least 5 other people. I listened to their conversations. I listened to the speakers. Were you at the meeting last night? If so, then you understand where I am getting my information.

How do I know so much? I read the newspaper. I ask people questions. I attended last nights so called meeting although that was just a gripe session. I realize you all believe since I don't live in your district, I should not know anything or have an opinion. I beg to differ. Lastly, I also did a few internet searches. If you all want to make sure everything stays legal, then lets do so.

You all do not want but your equipment used for your district.
KRS Ch. 273 states that any on duty firefighter is in control of all equipment as soon as the response call is sent out.

KRs 75.450(1) states that it is necessary to respond to all fires in the county. Rather it is north district firemen or their equipment.

That is just a few facts you can easily look up from your own desk at your own home. I will admit that I am not the usual person who even really cares about politics. I do however am very heated over the fact that its okay it takes 30 minutes for the county to get to my fire, but because you have paid a few extra dollars its not okay for you to get the same treatment. My life is just as important as yours. My property may be valued somewhat less, but it is just as important.

So I am like you, I don't care if you want the tax or not. Lets get some of the facts out there. In my opinion, the fact is that more than just the north district should have been represented last night. Maybe the rest of the county should have took better notice. I am sure there are more people than me that wish you all would see past your own front porch.

So go on, close the station and sell the truck. Quit paying your special tax. Be like the rest of the county. But remember, you can't have it both ways. No matter how much money you have.

As for me, I am heading out to talk to some folks. I think more people in the southern, eastern, and western part of the county need to know how special you all really think you are. Equal opportunity. Right? So maybe the rest of us are going to ask for better response times. 24 hour staffed stations. Maybe while we are at lets see about the EMS and Police departments stepping up to.

To You Northern Jessamine COunty SubDistrict/ North Jessamine Home Owner Association Members:

I went to last nights meeting and am appauled at the way you acted towards people that had nothing to with with what happened to your tax/sub tax money. The people on the board now have only been on a few years. Mr. Riley 30+. Mr. Eldridge 10. Mr. Moberly 2. Mr. Corman 2 (if any of you never see him there). Mr. Proffitt adn Mr. Wheeler both about 5. So with that being said, your tax was put into place in 1995. It was made a law in 1996 and as I remember you all had your own people over it. Jim Roberts cheif, John Vigle and a coupole more I can't remember. In April or May of 97 they decided it was easier to let the county fire dept take over all North Jessamine County Fire Dept and the people from there merged with the dept. And both the NOrth Jessamine and hte county fire department trained and merged together. In 98, the sub tax was branded on the fire board by the fiscal court. THey were told they were in charge of the money. So I think your blame needs to be adjusted not souly on the shoulders of the fire board but also on teh Fiscal Court. As fore the other complaints of fire service since the so mentioned period of time we have had many trainings and many people have come and gone. The majority of the people now do not like in the Northern part of the county. So it is very difficult to come from the southern part of the county safely, get to hte station, get your gear on any quicker. Especially at some of the hours we make these fire runs. So once again, if you want to complain about service and want to really do something about it, then you can join the volunteer fire department . Beware when you join through that you are signing up for to be called out of your warm bed at 2am to nine degree weather or weather so hot the you can get steam burn from just standing outside. Otherwise, quit complaing about the SERVICE or volunteer like I do so your response time to your houses would be faster and we dont have to bring the truck from the south end of town to put out a house out in Champions.

Sorry do not live in Northern part of the county. And I forgot to mention that both members of the fiscal court and all county magistrates along w/ both state represenatives where asked to attend but how many showed up not one to my knowledge but yet you blame people that didn't know of what was happining until it was to late. And also as far as legal representation Mr Moore has only been a part of the board for a couple of yrs also. The legal representation back then had been the county attorney's assistant until a few yrs ago I'm thinking around 2000 or so.
