Deadly day on Danbury roads

I came through westbound and saw the remains of both vehicles. This was a horrible accident.

I was one of the concerned people on the overpass looking down onto this horrifying scene. We must have gotten there just after it happened as police and fire trucks had not arrived yet. I've never seen anything so frightening in my life. My thoughts and prayers are with all the vitims and their families.

Just another case of someone not obeying the 55mph speed limit there. No one cut off this truck, I'm sure.

Perhaps you should speak to the police and provide a statement, since you seem to know so much.

This waa a horrible accident ,the honda was crushed and didn't look like a car at all,came through at 9:30pm and thier was a seven mile backup of traffic over the ny state line.My thoughts and prayers to the family and victims!

did they do a drug and alcohol test on the driver of the pickup truck?

Sadly,it comes as little surprise that a young adult
in a pick up caused this. More and more pick ups are showing up in this area. Often customized with exhausts, oversized chrome wheels and loud audio system's. I've been tailgated and cut off by these younger drivers who are ready for a fight should anyone say anything to them. I think we have all seen these pick-ups' travelling at high speeds on I-84.
This is a tragic accident. I can only imagine the family when they received the news that there child had been killed.

We all curse our luck in those situations, getting tired, frustrated, instead maybe we should learn to consider what tragedy could be causing such a delay. We came to a stop at Exit 5 at 5:30 - had we not taken the wrong road earlier, we might have been the ones in the crash. Not melodrama, just very, very sad today for the families of the people in the car just ahead of us, and awed by the random events that affect our lives so profoundly.

What does it being a pickup have to do with anything? It wasn't even a full size pickup. There's far more idiots behind the wheel of SUV's (GOD how I hate that acronym) and small cars causing accidents daily.

I have to agree with SadDriver's comment about random events that affect our lives so profoundly. About 20 years ago I was getting ready to go to my boyfriend's house in Danbury when he called and asked me to stop to pick up something for him. I made my stop and was headed toward Danbury on Route 7. As I approached the bridge (just past where Mercedes Benz is now located) there was a detour and fire and ambulance. I took my detour and went on to his house. The next morning I learned that a mother with her two children had been hit head-on by a drunk driver who crossed the yellow line. The mother was killed. I often think about the fact that if I had not stopped for the 5-10 minutes to pick up something it could have been me. Everyone needs to just slow down! We all are running 10 minutes late for everything. Driving 85 mph is not going to get you there faster, Especially if you have an accident! The guy in the P/U truck must have been flying to go airborne over the median. If he was in control of his speed and vehicle he would have been able to better avoid the "car that cut him off". My prayers go out to the families that lost a loved one in this horrible accident.

Kim Pitts was a beautiful person. She had a unique outlook on life and lived according to her own playbook. I will miss her dearly.

My husband is a truck driver who was caught in the backup for nearly 4 hours. He never saw the wreckage, but knew there were fatalities from the reports on the CB. It's such a tragedy for the families involved, and our thoughts and prayers go out to each of them.
As he travels the road daily up and down the east coast, he sees this frequently. He's only got about a year to retirement, and hopefully, he can remain safe while he's out there. People need to slow down. It doesn't matter the age of the driver, young and old alike speed. The type of vehicle makes no difference either. From the biggest rigs to the smallest compact, you will find them all trying to get someplace in half the time it takes to get there. Until people realize the speed limit is there for a reason, things like this will continue to happen. If you are going the speeds we see so frequently on the roads everywhere, you can't react to emergencies like you should. Slow down. You may be a few minutes late, but it sure is better than being maimed or killed because you couldn't avoid an accident.

If I'm not mistaken, there was another pick up crash in this same area of I-84 within the last year. A (fullsize, OK BoBo?)pick up went over the guard rail and landed upside down.

My family and I were on our way home from the city about 8 pm and we came to a hault at about 8 pm. By 10 pm we were able to take 202 to our destination. We didnt know what had happened but just knew it had to be bad. God bless all the families involved.

I saw the scene as we crept through westbound last night. I do hope someone who knows some physics does the investigation; that pickup must have been traveling at quite some rate of speed to have traveled airborne that distance between roadways before landing atop the victims' vehicle. Certainly probable cause exists to analyze the driver's blood. My sympathies to the families of the victims and prayers for the survivors.
BTW, is there any mechanism to remove "deuchebag's (sic) moronic comment?

I was stick in traffic on the Westbound last night. I was feeling frustrated until we finally got past the scene around 9pm. My frustration quickly turned to appreciation for my life..... I had tears in my eyes when I saw the two cars. I knew it must have been bad. I just had to check the paper today to find out what happened. I am so sorry to hear of this loss of life. My prayers are with the injured and the families of the poor woman who lost her life.
