I was watching the Hickory station (18 on my TW cable but 14 in Hickory I think) and this preacher came on and started ranting and raving about men "letting" their wives be in control was sinful. Then he quoted some old testament scripture and said that men should tell their wives that "You belong to me. You will do what I tell you to do." He went on to say that women should not wear pants or makeup.

I went and got my wife so she could hear this guy. She was just as amazed as I was. he is basing all of this on old testament Jewish law which also teaches an eye for an eye and stoning people to death.

There are some great "loving" Christ centered churches of every denomination in Hickory and a wonderful Lutheran University. My concern is that people will see a nut like this guy on TV and think every Christian in Hickory needs a white jacket and a padded room.

You have good churches in the Hickory and Hildebran area, but I know of one that has completely changed in the past five years. Nearly every message that is preached is based on prosperity and paying your tithes. Don't get me wrong I beleive wholeheartedly in paying tithes, but when all you hear week after week is money , money you are not being fed the way you are supposed to be in Church. I have been there and seen the plate passed as many as three times in One service. The pastor will preach to those that do not pay their tithes that they are going to hell. People in this Church are stuggling to pay their bills from month to month all the while the pastor of this church is bragging from the pulpit about him buying $50000 new cars and paying cash for it and could pay cash for another one if he wished. He preaches that if everyone wants to prosper like him they must tithe like him and give more than the 10% that you are supposed to.Many members of this church have left and are now attending other churches in the area. This pastor has actually called everyone to the alter and asked them to help him pray that the ones who have left his church for them to lose everything they have and for those who have received healing for them to become sick again. Many of the people in the community that do not attend this church call it a cult and have I have actually witnessed people get up and leave after only being in one of his services for 10 minutes. I don't know if this is the same person you have mentioned but he does have a program on Hickory channel 14 and from the way it sounds it is probably the same one.

And people wonder why I don't bother going to church... LOL!

Sounds like a lot of them are so hard up for money nowadays, they'll even let obvious queers in.

you know friend their are a lot of folks who do not know the truth but if someone asked you to jump off the empirior state building would you.i was illiterate to the truth when jesus found me you see i did not find him he found me.he was not lost.this thing is going to be different this most people thinks it is.you can not have grace without truth and you cannot have truth without grace.that is the way it was with me all my life you cannot do this and you cannot do that so much legalistic religion that i forgot what it was all about.JESUS you enter the tabernacle to be washed at the basin then you lay on the bazen altar to be purged cleaned so you can enter the most holy place to have true woship with jesus we do not need a priest to take our place any more and it starts from the inside out man has had this thing all backwards.when the possessed luntic was set free jesus did not go after the outside he went after the inner man then he was clothed and in his right mind.it is time we preach the love of God to the inward man. friend do not let the carnal man that has no wisdom keep you from church in hebrews he says assemble together even more so as that day approaches.i am one of those channel 14 lady preachers and i will continue to hold the blood stain banner high in love will i proclaim the gospel tune in every 3rd sunday at 4 o'clock also if your in the area come listen to us at the jesus life center in longview nc sunday night at 6:00 where we will be ministering(11-8-09)God Bless You and Hold on to Jesus

Wow, I also left a church because of this. It's also in Hickory.... by the train tracks... off main street... and they changed their name couple years back. is it the same church?? Preacher I'm talking about is also on tv alot too. This preacher wanted everyone to pray all those that didnt come to church on a halloween night few years back, that their children get major belly aches and get very, very sick because he knew they didnt come to church because they were out trick o treating. I was shocked!!! He and his wife drove brand new cars, classy clothing and belonged to a church "click". He preached to all but wouldnt talk to or go out to dinner with noone who wasnt in his click. Many people have left his church for many reasons similar to these and yet he would tell us all while preaching, "you don't have to like me, I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to preach and do a service for my God". WHAT!! One time after a church service, I was going through terrible times with my husband (we pulled through thank God) but with no help from the preachers wife, which happens to also be a preacher. I waited beside her for close to 15 minutes, waiting for a chance to ask her to pray with me/for me. She looked at me, saw me standing there and continued talking with her friend (which is also in the "click") talking nonsence. I eventually got so angry and walked off.

I left church years ago and will never go back. I am not judging anyone who still goes but in my case I was down and out of work. My church knew this and still wanted me to give money every week. I needed to feed my family not the churches. My fellow friends still go and do not see me as the devil since I do not go. I still pray but I do it at home. God is everywhere and I do not need to go to church to pay to pray.

If you are going to church to just meet friends then you are going there for the wrong reason. Put God first and foremost as the reason for attending and the friendship of your church members will come. If you you rely on just being friends with the people of your church you will get your feelings hurt. If you need prayer your Pastor should be having an alter call during church services instead of having to meet with the pastors wife after services. It is good to have someone to pray with you for your needs but Gods door is open to everyone and he will listen to you just as well as he will listen to your Pastor. Most christians of today believe that you can go to church on Sunday and think it that is enough to last the rest of the week. Church is for giving thanks and praising him for what has been given to you. Get involved in you church, ask what you can do to help make your church grow, read your Bible daily and pray each day and then you will see that all the problems that you are having are not all the church's fault.

Uncle Tom,

I did not mean to imply that my problems were the churches fault. If indeed you response was directed to me. My life is fine now and everything is on track. I have a bitter taste in my mouth regarding the church. I know this should be directed to the church that screwed me (for a lack of a better term). But it is what it is. I don't need to go to a different building to pray. This is just my way now. And you have your way. that is all. I just can't stand the way I get treated by people that go to church when they find out the I don't. It is not fair just because I do not completely see things the way you and most of church goers do. I do not judge you and all I ask is that you do not judge me. I get the look like I am the devil because I do not go to church. I am just like you. No different.

And please do not pray for me. There are a lot of more needy people then I you can pray for. Like all the people out of work and our Soldiers. My son is leaving for the Marines in a week. You can pray for him as I do.

I am glad to hear that you have not lost your faith in God and that you still pray. In defence of our church, our pastor has stated that he recieves as many as 50 request a week for financial assistance and got worse since the economy has began to crumble. The church has responsibilities to meet each month as well as we do and it is equally as hard for them to make ends meet as it is for us. A church has a power bill, heating cost, insurance, upkeep on the grounds, a pastors salary (they have to eat too) sowing into other ministries and the cost of other church functions. The list could go on and on, but the point is we just can't feed the world on what little money is brought in. Tithing is the only income in which a church has in order to pay their bills. Do not get me wrong , I do not support the practices of some of the pastors mentioned above but a good church will understand and ask that you would be blessed if you can give and ask for those that can not give to be blessed. If you are looking for a good church where you will be appreciated and you will feel at home, please consider Icard Church of God. We may not be able to feed you financially the way that we would like to be able to but you will be fed spiritually and I promise we will not let you and your family starve. God bless you and hope to see you there.

Uncle Tom,

Thank you for your invitation. I will consider it once I move down into the area which I hope to be soon. I know in the South it is much different then here in the North. This is the main reason I am moving out of NY. I need a change and most people I have spoken to in the Hickory area have been extremely friendly and nice. As a quick story I was near Valdese and drove onto the shoulder in the grass which I now know is a big mistake with the clay. I was stuck and the next 6 cars that drove by asked me if I needed help. I did of course need it and got help. Here in NY you could almost never stop to help someone. Either they would think you are going to robe or carjack them or they may even be setting you up for the same. It is a shame NY has become so bad as I grew up here but as I look forward to living in your area I cannot wait to be out of NY. You have a great day.

Mr. Uncle Sams, I think your comment is referring to my post about the "clicks" in church and "friendships". I go to church to listen to the word and not to have friends. I simply made those comments to show how shady this church is. And when your pastor is suggesting we pray for children to get sick because their parents decided to go trick or treating..... that's wrong. this church was all about money, money, money, money, money. i understand the church relies on tithes for electric, water, trash etc., etc. I soo get that. but when you cant tithe, you just cant. you shouldnt be looked down upon because you cant. i go to listen to the word, but when you have the pastor act rude and just ignore you and tell his congregation, he's not here to be friendly.. no wonder MANY have left. God is good and God bless all.

don't know if this has anything to do with the original post or not, but i gotta ask something. one knows people go to church-that's a given. but i have run into so many people who claim to be church goers, but i don't understand what went wrong with them. one example, one sunday, i was driving, came to a stop sign. i could not see well enough, so i pulled up just a little, then stopped again of course. at that second, i see a car coming, and i see the driver and his mother, who had just obviously come from church. OH THE CHAOS THAT ENSUED! i could see him screaming and jestering at me like a mad man! this man is very well known in town, and i saw him throw a tantrum at his place of work before, so i know what he's capable of. but this time, i was just shocked at his behavior. i had no intention of pulling out in front of him, but he had no way of knowing that, but still he freaked out. another thing that i see all the time is the women that wear their hair in a bun and wear the long skirts. they are always grouchy and have a long face. no offense to the followers of their religion, but i always thought that if you were a person of God and that you went to church, you were basically a good person, right? yeah, i know we're all human, we have bad days, but these women always look grouchy. i do my very best to use the best manners, opening doors for people, saying excuse me, blah blah blah, but this has made me wonder for a long time. now i don't go to church as often as i should (at my church, people would always walk to the front just so they could show off their brand new clothes. and the pastor hounded my aunt once to give him belongings from her home. but that's another story). can any shed any light on this without flaming me? and again, no offense to the grouchy ladies who wear the long skirts and their hair in buns.

Ms. Kendra, I was refering to your post. You have the post about the pastor praying for the children of the church to get sick because they were trick or treating confused with someone else. My pastor would never come to praying for anyone to get sick. If the people of the church are looking down on you for you not being able to pay your tithes and especially by your pastor then you are in the need of another church and You need to start looking immediately. For a pastor to be rude to the people of his church and to not make them welcome regardless of their financial situation is unexcusable.

Thank you Mr. Uncle Sams for your advice. I truly am looking for another church. I have 3 children and it is my duty to bring them to church so that seed is implanted in them. When adults, if they backslide... they still will have that seed and knowledge and that, will bring them back. I have been to a couple of churches since leaving the church I spoke of earlier posts. Thank you sir and God bless and be with you always.

Want to find a church where Jesus is uplifted, guests are welcomed and will not be asked for their money? We actually make a point that the offering is an act of worship for the regular members, guests are under no obligation. Visit Harvest Bible Chapel-Hickory. From I-40 take Macdonald Parkway north-- cross Springs RD, cross Sandy Ridge Rd and then cross Hwy 127 and go about 2 miles, church is on the right, next to Neill Clark Recreation Center.(typical Hickory, the road name changes several times but it is still the same road)

You should not be under any obligation to any church as far as your titheing goes. Their is an obligation to pay your tithes but that is between you and God. My God is an understanding God and will know if you can pay your tithes or not. A church is nothing more than an assembly of two or more people that have the same beleif in God and are their to worship him. They should be there to pray with you and uplift you and pray that if you can not pay your tithes that you would be blessed that you could pay them. No church should ever make their visitors or members feel unwelcome just because of their financial situation. If you are looking for a church whose mission is to save souls and a great place to worsip God not to mention the great fellowship then try Icard Church of God. This church is the best kept secret in Burke county. Give us a try, I think you will like what you see. We are located just off of I-40 at the Icard exit. Turn right off of the exit then make the next left onto Icard Church of God road. Our church is located on the right. May God bless you and we hope to see you there.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Virgo

Be careful you don't wind up doing someone else's work today, Virgo. There are all sorts of little tricks to persuade you to take pity on them, from pretending to be ill to making such a hash of everything that you can't bear to watch for a moment longer. Then you are likely to be asked to put in some overtime, at the expense of your social life. Grr.
