Maize Man Against Barton Relocating

“We should contact the other towns and tell them to take them. That's what I think, it's cheaper in the long run”

For decades it's been in Valley Center. But an explosion at Barton Solvents last summer is forcing the company to look for a new home. via KBSL 10

This plant would be within 2 miles of several of the Maize schools. It is not worth a few jobs for the safety of our children. Besides it is near the Maize water supply. It would cost a lot of money if they contiminate the water supply.

This Barton Solvents relocation is nothing but trouble. I have employees who lived in Valley Center when the last accident happened. They were NOT happy. They were out of their homes for 2-3 days and then when they got back, several found cars, trucks, rv's, etc. damaged from the falout from the fumes and smoke. And they want to move this to Maize. To top it off, the idiot from the City of Maize says it "fits right into out master development plan?" I would like to see that, then he needs to undergo drug testing. You have a 13 screen IMAX theater coming on the east side of Maize Road and the schools are well less than 2 miles from the proposed plant location. This is in line with their plan? They are lucky that the well-to-do are moving into the area, they should just ride that wave of new residences and hope suburban sprawl just continues to ease its way north to 53rd Street.(it is well on its way) I can only say, Mr. Mayor and City Council, I and several others will just take my $100k a year and its ensuing taxes and move elsewhere if that plant moves in. See how long you finance the schools when that money maker comes to town.

It means YOU are NOT a resident of Maize. Your not one of the 2500 ppl that live there. Child Acres is the Oaklawn of North Sedgwick county. More good news Barton is not moving to Maize after all.
