Don't do it. Unless you like the ghetto and white trash. i.e. Allen Iverson. French people have nothing on the rude a**holes from Hampton. Crime? Yes. Everyday. A shooting at least every other day. Police? What a joke. Unless you live on Chesapeake Ave or certain areas of Fox Hill you won't see them. The city government is corrupt. They actually have the ex-city manager who didn't do his job and stole money running for city council. And guess what. Certain segments of the city will vote for him because he is black. That is how short sighted some of the citizens are. My point- Hampton sucks. Look at Gloucester or Williamsburg.

Take it from someone who has been there. I lived in a beautiful area called ''Azela Gardens'' growing up. I walked to nearby Hampton High back then. Today, Azela Gardens in 98% black, HHS is 13% white and ghetto to the core. I went to Lee Elementary and it was 99% white, today it's close and last had 99.5% black.
All the City is run by women and minorities. Poor investment not to mention unsafe,for you. The taxes over in Hampton come via HPD Speed Traps. Most 4 lane streets have 1 lane speed limits of 25 and 35 mph; that was designed due to no white buinesses and white working income.
Now, 3 schools have closed and I heard another is on the way. The schools system is and has been run by blacks and women who can read. Today I live in YC-Grafton...eom

Don't move here!!!! I have lived here in Hampton for over 40 years and I hate it. I am only here because my older relatives are here. If I could get them to move with me I would sell my house in a heart beat. I think back how nice it used to be in Hampton but its all ghetto now. Back in the 60's my parents bought a house in wythe and a few years later he had a vision of what was happening to that place and sold his house and moved to the northhampton area which was REALLY nice. And then the explosion(intergration happened). My sisters and brothers and I were bused to all black schools when Kraft elementary was just a half of a mile away. My dad paid good money to live in that neighborhood and the crappy Hampton school board did this to him. They can lie all they want and say Hampton is black 60/40 white but its more like 80/20. I have decided as soon as I sell my home I am getting the hell out of here. My family will just have to stay behind. I hate to leave them here is this trash hole. The schools SUCK!!! I went to them and my kids go to them. Please read this and if you must live near here because of a job live in New Kent or Gloucester or Saluda. Heed my warning don't live in Hampton, Norfolk, or Newport News go north.

The best part about Hampton was moving out of it. The school system absolutely sucks. The IB program is at Hampton (Thug) High School, nationally ranked for it's STD rate.

Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, I was a substitute teacher.I eventually taught at least a day or 2 in every school.I took the school that called from K-12.I HAVE SEEN IT ALL.I saw Symns go gutter, same with Kraft, Forrest, and HHS.I only felt like I was in a civilized setting at Langley, Tucker Capps, Ashbury, and 1 other.
As for neighborhoods, none are safe...period!As for the liberal local Gov't there,it was radar up you rectum like NN.I live in the county since 04 and the hoods are finding their way up here now.So, for God's SAKE, GET OUT!

Gloucester is beautiful.You should thank God there isn't an HRT to bus the thugs up there, or is there one?

My gf lives in Gloucester. It is gettig bad there now as well. Thugs have already started moving up there.

I was in Virginia a few times. I remember West Point and going to the north tip of Gloucester.I stopped at a Rite Aide first in West Point.I saw these hoods walking around.Damn, can't go anywhere.As I got to Gloucester, I met my old friends from NAVY days and he had about 5 friends over. He had turned rapper or something. Shame. He was a cool dude at once now he's just another wigger. I stayed only, made an excuse to leave,,,15 minutes later I met my family at BGW.

I predicted the Town-CTR would be a flop. Well, Beamers has gone bellu up. The domino will kick in soon as stores leave like Newmarket North in the 80s.Such a waste and we warned you.Hamton is NOT buisness friendly.The city will harass you in more than 1 way.You can't get customers because noone wants to go there. Coliseum Mall was a dump.The city is gone for the whites, they have left years ago and the 45% remaining are in the military or trying to sell.eom

I lived here growig up, left for college 1500 miles away, came back on holidays. I moved back in 2005 and have been here 7 years. Hampton & Hampton Roads are a carbon copy of Gary, In. or New Haven, CT. Minorities seem to just roam areound like zombies, sit on corners asking for beer money, or breaking into something as video reveals on WVEC.
As for moving back, I regret it. My home is up for sale and I notified my boss when I sell, I have to terminate the job.

Go for private. For elementary, St. Andrews Episcopal School is great, and so is Hampton Roads Academy, which is elementary, middle, and highschool.

The private schools are best if you live on the peninsula. Usually, thugs don't last long there.

Seriously, your thinking of moving TO Hampton. Ha Ha Ha, from where, Detroit. If so, maybe that would be an improvement. I lived in Newport News 25 years ago and even then would not have ever considered living in Hampton. Back then the major mall (colosium) was the biggest dump you have ever been in, it was eventually closed (too dangerous).
Live around Yorktown, if you can't afford that move on.
