Nope. I'm relying on the Hebrew translation of Eran regarding the article he mentioned. Charges as they are reported are anything but minor. There was one that looked she was incarcerated for belonging to an illegal group. It didn't say "terrorist" group. I might consider that minor. A lot of them were looking to stab somebody. If they were looking to stab an Arab, I might consider that minor, too. Just kidding. |

wrong there .the Jews were never told to get out of GERMANY(or Belgium, holland etc..)..the jews were told there was a new regime who wanted to divided the wealth between the poors(ring a bell). the one who didn't like it could get out..ONLY one problem: If they wanted to get out they had to handover their wealth and later be put on a train to "FREEDOM" we know were those trains went don't we..........and germany should be thankful because of those Jews.. Germany until today is the country who has received the most Billions from the US. to rebuild...etc.... |

Judged: 2 2 1 Yup, pretty much the same as the translated list I posted. I think when this comes from Haaretz, NaNa's excuses trying to slender Israeli media runs out. Haaretz is blamed by many to be an anti-Israeli newspaper. It is highly unlikely that a factual reporting of such a list by them would contain deceptive information that might pose these women as worst then the grim reality that is. One thing you can be certain of, if Hamas demanded their release, then they must be in some ways related to hate crimes against Israel. The fact so many celebrate and condone their forced premature release is a stain of shame on the Palestinian society that does little to promote their ultimate goal of independence in the eyes of Israelis and the civilized world. |

Judged: 3 1 middle-aged woman found herself sitting next to a man wearing a kippa (scull cap). She called the attendant over to complain about her seating. "What seems to be the problem, Madam?" asked the attendant. "You've sat me next to a Jew!! I can't possibly sit next to this strange man. Please find me another seat!" "Madam, I will see what I can do to accommodate," the attendant replied, "but the flight is virtually full today and I don't know if there is another seat available." The woman shoots a snooty look at the snubbed Jewish man beside her (not to mention the surrounding passengers). A few minutes later the attendant returned and said, "Madam, the economy and club sections are full, however, we do have one seat in First class." Before the lady had a chance to respond, the attendant continued, "It is only on exceptions that we make this kind of upgrade, and I had to ask permission from the captain. But, given the circumstances, the captain felt that no one should be forced to sit next to an unpleasant person..." The flight attendant turned to the Jewish man sitting next to her, and said: "So if you'd like to get your things, Sir, I have a comfortable seat for you in First class..." At this point, the surrounding passengers stood up and gave a standing ovation while the Jewish man walked up to the front of the plane. The lady then said indignantly, "The Captain must have made a mistake.." To which the attendant replied, "No Ma'am. Captain Cohen never makes a mistake." |

About Gilad Shalit if I may;
Although the circumstances of his capture were an outrageous act of war that broke a period of calm, he does however fall into many criteria of prisoner of war. As Marie pointed out: "Soldier GILAD IS A POW..Enemy prisoner of War is a "COMBATANT" who is HELD in continuing custody by an ENEMY POWER DURING OR AFTER an armed conflict. its' even covered in MANUALS of ISLAMIC Jurisprudence." However, two serious issues arise from such a definition: 1. Is it morally lawful or legal to use a POW to blackmail another country to release other, non-POW's convicts? Is it legal to capture one in the first place in the intent of doing so? 2. If Gilad Shalit is a POW, so claimed by Hamas by using the international laws in accordance with the relevant Geneva conventions, why then is he not treated like one? why is he not granted the minimum rights given to POWs, visits from humanitarian agencies and other basic human rights? Gilad Shalit may be a soldier, but this does not mean he should be prone to such awful treatment or using him for such malicious blackmail and extortion methods. POW or not, Hamas is yet again proving to the world how despicable and vile they are. |

As I pointed out, the article proudly stated that NOBODY had blood on their hands. Well, it was for lack of trying. I do think Nana is onto something though. How do you sentence a person to only ten months for attempted murder? Some of these sentences are awfully light for attempted murder. As she points out, attempted murder in this country means a very long time. And for attempted murder of one of our Policemen, it can be for life. It's a capital crime, here. You can be arrested here for weapons charges, but you get bail and probably probation or early parole. Something's not quite right about the gravity of the charges. But, I'm sure the charges are as stated in the TWO referenced articles. |

Here's an example of what I'm referring to as a very light sentence:
8) Barah Malki - Sentenced to eleven months for attempted murder and assault of a police officer in the line of duty. Original release date: November 11, 2009. |

Violence is breaking out in Jerusalem again:
http://www.ynet.co.il/english/articles/0,7340... Soldier is stabbed at a checkpoint near the holy city: http://www.ynet.co.il/english/articles/0,7340... *Sigh*, its like the Arabs of this region insist on sending us into Limbo every time over and over again. What makes me so frustrated is that they know this is gonna screw them over far more then it will harm the Israelis. Checkpoints will become tighter, Prayers in Jerusalem will be banned for Muslims, police's only answer to this Arab show of brutality is with ten times the same... I'm practically banging my head against the wall here... Is coexistence utterly impossible? Are we eternally doomed to live like this? |

You don't know Israeli courts, I haven't met a single Israeli who doesn't agree that sentences here in Israel are a bad joke. Besides, the courts here usually have a tendency to shorten Palestinians' incarceration periods because the Jail houses are already full with actual murderers and criminals. 11,000 Palestinians are detained in Israeli prisons which are overflowing. Although I'm not very knowledgeable about these specific prisoners, it does seems an awfully light sentence for what they are charged with. |
I listed only one or two in my respoonse to Eran if you look back. But if I get a chance to get online later, I'll dig the rest up for you. Did Eran's art. say "charges" or "convictions" or did it not specify? Again, I'll try to look back for myself later but right now I'm in btw. patients and don't have the time. Havin' a good day? |

Considering the history Eran, I don't see Israel returning to the death penalty anytime soon. And while Israeli courts may seem ridiculously lenient on what westerners consider serious crimes, it is a regionally accurate response. Try to imagine the outcry if you had to read in Haaretz about the weekly execution of Palestinian capital criminals. There would still be a backlog and your jails would still be full. The only difference is that same people who jump to accuse you of war crimes before the war is even over would have a field day propagandizing that little enterprise. |

I know why Israel is afraid and is doing everything they can to avoid the Goldstone Report...
From the 20+ pages of the “Detainees” section… Conclusions 1535. The [UN human rights] Mission is concerned about the detention of children and adults on political grounds, in poor conditions, and outside the occupied territory in violation of international humanitarian law. The Mission notes the very high number of Palestinians who have been detained since the beginning of the occupation (amounting to 40% of the adult male population of the oPt) according to a practice that appears to aim at exercising control, humiliating, instilling fear, deterring political activity and serving political interests. 1536. The Mission is equally concerned by the reports of coercion and torture during interrogations, trials based on coerced confessions or secret evidence, and the reportedly systematic and institutionalized ill-treatment in prisons. 1537. The Mission is particularly alarmed at the arrest and detention of hundreds of young children, and the rise in child detention during and following the Israeli military operations in Gaza. The ill-treatment described to the Mission received by children and adults is disturbing in its seemingly deliberate cruelty. |

You speak about LEGALITTY, the answer to this is HAMAS itself. Hamas is a terror organization. Its in the goverment but it does not have the morality of a goverment. It does not stand for a COUNTRY. It's an organization following it's OWN "rules". They shoot their own people, you think they will treat POWS like humens? Let's don't forget who the enemy is. They arn't humens. Let's stop thinking they are. Let's hope that we will see Gilaf healthy and at home. |
