You stated previously that maybe you could have driven and not seen Matt. You will even go that far to defend the drunk .
You do not know the outcome of the trials of the pending cases. You, my dear, are so pro Dungan you even have the nerve to compare them. That is just outright slander to Matt. As far as the jury members, not one of them dissented and I am sure they are sleeping quite well. The Ramirez family agreed to a plea deal...Eric wanted to be tried by his peers...thinking he could get away with murder and a light sentence. Look at the facts...Your guy does not have one person, besides you, to say anything good about him. Oh, excuse me..his Aunt She says he has changed so much since the accident..what was he like before? HE ADMITTED YO DRIVING MANY TIMES DRUNK AND MADE IT HOME! No one defends Jason March..no one is saying he is wonderful. That would be a huge insult to the memory of Michael. So do not compare your boy to him. Text messaging is not against the law...you forgot to say he WAS DRUNK!
Matt was a hero..a cop who loved his job, who helped youths, who arrested drunks like Jason and Eric, a man who had integrity, honesty and a love of the Lord. That is what kind of person one can call wonderful.

It is OK to think the time Dungan was given was too much time. Your facts and and comparisons are sketchy though.
What is not OK is to say Dungan is a wonderful person and compare to Officer Redding. You are the only one defending Dungan and his personality. NO ON DEFENDS MARCH.
Do not insult the Redding family.
What seems strange to me is that the news carried a video at March's sentencing where we saw and heard the victims parents statements. We did not have that with Matt...I guess there wasn't enough time to cover it..so many people loved him.

I have been reading everyone comments. This is my point of view based on the comments.

1. The only reason I think why March's family and friends didn't comment is because of the deal he we was offer. I wouldn't want to bring attention to something so unjustice as well.

2. He should have been convicted harsher then Mr Dungan because he was a Police Officer at the time of the accident.

3.Just because someone express their opinion it is not consider slander.

4. The Ramirez and Dungan famlies both sould be outraged about both verdicts. Both famlies was not treated the same as Mr March was in the court room.

5. The reason why I think the Ramirez family was seen on TV expressing their themseleves before the verdict, is because the "system D.A." thought it would help their cover-up and to quickly brush it under the rug.

6. People should be more upset with the March verdict than the Dungan verdict.

Jane: Get real...you obviously do not read all the facts. Comparing Matt to Eric is SO wrong! I think the jury members are sleeping very well, and they should be. A careless drunk caused so much pain....and yes it is true he apppeared drunk in public while out on bail. So much for your wonder boy! I hope he serves every single day of 15 years. Also..do you work in the Sac. D.A.'s office...how do you know that the drunk that killed 4 innocent people won't get the same time as your boy did?

This is justice at its worst. The case involing the Police Office in Elkgrove and the Dungan case are similar, however there one major difference the police officer accident happen in the daylight in a crosswalk and in the Dungan case in the dark on the freeway. The officers verdict is 5 years and the other 15 to life. I feel sorry for the Dungan family and the little boy family in Elkgrove. Watch the news video on news10.net
I can hardly believe what I am reading. Actually JUSTICE WAS SERVED! Eric has no conscience and does not care about anyone but himself. His family seems to have the same attitude as Eric, about law enforcement and confuses what is right and wrong. There was no remorse for what Eric had done. He does not and did not care! He killed Matt and kept right on driving. He was caught. Eric was so drunk, he said that he had no idea what he hit......bad decision to get behind a wheel if you are so intoxicated that you have no idea what you hit going 65 miles and hour.

So what how the Dungans feel. They should feel bad that someone was killed. ERIC should apologize to the REDDING family. After all the REDDINGS are the ones who lost their son. If you want to feel bad for someone, feel bad for the family that lost their best friend, son and HERO!
They will never hold their son, see him get married, have a family of his own, all because a selfish man got behind the wheel one night and drove home drunk instead of staying in the taxi and gone straight home.

Matt was a POLICE OFFICER who gave his life to take the criminal scum off of the streets. He wanted the world to be a better place. He was an honest, caring officer, brother, best friend, son.

Matt is a HERO!

BSmith, you seem to be very one sided. Remember there is always two sides to every story. Don't judge people. That's what makes this world so hard to live in. Feel for people and their pain. And thank God everyday that you are not going through this, however I think you are and you are one of the Redding Family memebers. Don't you see the pain in both of the families. They both lost a son that evening. Dungan is change forever he will never be the person he was before this accident. No one decides to drink one night and then decides I am going to kill someone. Stop and think about it for a moment with out your harsh judgement and pre-judgement. It was an accident and by all laws he should have been charge with DUI-manslaughter. You seem to know more about this case then what was printed in the papers. As you live in this life try to stop and think from your heart, I do not think that your heart is that cold and remember the reporters spin a story in any direction. You really should take a good look at yourself. Many of times I drove on the freeway in the middle of the night where there is no crosswalks I could honestly say with out judgement because that is in Gods hands, I probably would not have seen the officer as well. Wow you didn't want one officer die, but you want Dungan too. Thats seems to ba a little odd as well as not caring that a child has because of an officer decision. If a child is warned not to cross the street in a crosswalk in the daytime durning school hours and does and dies because of an officer decision to Drink and Drive that day please tell what the differance really is? Don't blame it on the child. I say it again you really need to take a good look at yourself and your beleives and change for the good. God loves and he also forgives. And you need love in heart and life. Choose love everytime.
hey JANE why dont you just shut up!! MATT IS DEAD regardless of who did what! He's dead because another stupid drunk got behind a wheel and ran over someone, MATT saw it coming 2 seconds before!1 SHUT UP! you have no idea how any of us feel. ERIC killed and innocent man due to stupidy and a few few to may beers, he does deserve to be severly punished. Sorry for his family but at least his Mom can visit him in jail and not at his grave site!

This case is injustice. People should not be charged or judge because of whom they killed. We should all be judge the same. And if you beleive if this was to happen in another county the verdict would have been the same then you are crazy. It was blasted over the news and by his famliy members that he was a small town hero. There should have been a change of venue, so both families would feel justice was served.

People your missing the point. Look at the big picture. The courts should have granted a change of venue. Gong and Gladdis took a personal interest in this case. If Dungan would have struck and killed your next door neighbor not the home town hero he would have been charged with manslaughter just like the Officer Jason Marks who struck and killed a child in a crosswalk. Justice was not served. No one should feel good about the verdict.
