8P.M. fire is down from the water bombers. This fire was 2 1/2 miles outside the fire zone. Some punk from Chesaning Mich. got caught by a roving C.O. on East Branch Club, I assume just driving around next to the fire. Yeah

Duck Lake is part of the Little Two Hearted Lakes, SE corner of Section 13. T48N R8W. They are 4 miles south of Pike Lake area. The actual fire started 2 miles south of Duck Lake near the Headwaters of the Widgeon Creek. Evidently Widgeon Creek Headwaters is not as romantic of a name for a fire.

By: Sudbury Staff Thanks to favourable weather and ongoing firefighting efforts, the Ministry of Natural Resources said today the forest fire situation in Ontario has stabilized.
Crews continue to extinguish hotspots and build a strong line around the perimetre of the fires burning in the northeast.
With three new fire starts on May 29, there are 24 active fires in the region, burning some 120,000 acres of forest to date, making 2012 the busiest fire season in Ontario in decades. All but five are listed as under control.
The massive Timmins 9 is currently 100,000 acres in size, but is no longer moving toward the city. According to the city's website, it is the largest fire the northeast has seen in 50 years. A state of emergency was lifted by Timmins Mayor Tom Laughren earlier this week. Hwy 144 remains closed.
Meanwhile, Kirkland Lake 8 is 5700 acres in size and is now under control, the MNR reported. A combination of aggressive suppression by ground crews and recent rainfall resulted in fewer problem areas detected in infra-red scanning.
Due to the high to extreme fire hazard and increased forest fire activity, the restricted fire zone order remains in effect for the northeast. The order has been in place since May 16.
Although unsettled weather is in the forecast for the next several days, and an approaching front on Friday could bring cloud, rain and lightning, the MNR expects new fires, and fire behaviour, to remain limited.
More out-of-province firefighters were expected in Ontario by now, but the MNR has determined those additional resources will not be needed for now. Two Manitoba waterbombers were released May 29, and another two may be released May 30. There are currently 164 out of province personnel working in the province.

New fires in Ontario pose few control problems: MNR
June 01, 2012 By: Northern Life After a string of quiet days, fire activity picked up again on May 30.
Thirteen new fires were confirmed in the province, all of them in the northeast region and almost all lightning-caused, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources. The starts were mostly small and posed few control problems.
Presently, there are 27 fires active in the province . FireRangers made excellent progress on all existing fires. Kirkland Lake fire 8 has now been declared under control.
The MNR is expecting today to paint a similar picture, with a reasonable number of new lightning fires appearing in the northeast.
After a lengthy period of rain, drying is now taking place in the northwest region and some human-caused fires could appear. Some resources will be returning to the northwest over the next few days in anticipation of the fire hazard increasing there.
The improving fire situation in Ontario has allowed some out-of-province resources to be released.
Four waterbombers from Manitoba returned home over the last two days. There are currently 164 out-of-province fire personnel working in Ontario, as well as two CL-415 waterbombers from Newfoundland.
Northeastern Ontario has stabilized due to favourable weather conditions and advances in fire suppression activities.
Though fire activity has slowed down, there is still a lot of hard work left on the ground for fire crews to extinguish remaining hot spots and build a strong line around the perimeter of the fires.

I had a friend tell me last weekend when up in Ontario that they had alot of problems with fire. We just don't hear about them here in Michigan.
So I printed a little news about them in the above 2 articles.
