It's a Fork, It's a Spoon, It's a ...Weapon? School Suspends Boy, 6

Full story: New York Times

Finding character witnesses when you are 6 years old is not easy. But there was Zachary Christie last week at a school disciplinary committee hearing with his karate instructor and his mother's fiance by his side to vouch for him.

Well, no plans to phew like the original author but I just wanted to say Hello from Missouri- Just saw the story on the news. I wanted to give support for the child and family and communicate hope that the school board does see fit to apply common sense and view the case for what it really was and not a diabolical plan but the clueless act of a 6 year old child.

Sorry, people. But what Zachary had was a Swiss Army KNIFE. It may have had 200 other implements included, but at its core the article in question was a KNIFE. Made by Victorinox. Bought from a case containing dozens of other styles of KNIVES.
I find the huge Swiss Army knives to be a bit overwhelming. Certainly for my pocket. But if he had taken one of the smaller knives to school, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
And consider, while HE may not have been a threat, others that could easily have taken it from him -- the things are NOT cheap and would have been a target of theft for that reason alone -- and used it for other than its benign purpose.

A six year old should not have a swiss army knife. So the parents are at fault. The school should have been able to determine if the child brought it to school to assault someone or it was a matter of innocents. Most children who are not ready for the responsibility would probably want to eat lunch with it. I feel bad for the child. Parents and school failed him. What ever happened to common sense and age appropriate.

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Libra

You're full of empathy and affection today, so it would be a shame not to spread it around. It's a marvellous day for a low-key get-together with some of the people you haven't seen during the past few days, because you'll enjoy having a good chat about what's been happening. Once your social duties are out of the way you'll love curling up on the sofa with a good book or a favourite film.
