As a former product of the USD it is sad to see the news that possibly 150 teachers can lose their jobs in the next budget. But what is really sad is that the teachers & students of this once proud district who have been raped & pillaged by school board after school board who have basically looked after their own selves & family members first before making the hard decisions that would have benefited the ones that need it the most, and that is the teachers & students. All you have to do is go back to the fateful group of board members who were part of the first capital improvement project that involved shady work and a shady architect and nobody was ever brought up on charges. At the end of the day it is the general public who has failed our students & teachers who continually put people on the board who couldn't hold a job in the private sector.

How come the business dept. At Proctor had no teachers cut? Because Bruce's brother Richie would lose his job. He's low man on seniority. Plus, sports were cut, but 2 athletic manager jobs were added. So Bruce can take care of artie and ralphie! That money would have saved lacrosse. Girls golf was cut so ralphie will rebound with that athletic manager job. Plus, attendence wasn't't cut. Will angela elefante get cut? I could see about a $367,000 savings right there!

Attendance 'teachers' making over 100 g's and you get their answering machines when you call. No returned calls either.
This school district doesn't need more state aid, it needs an enema; and you can insert the tube in the BOE.

You guys don't know what your talking about!! I'm not a teacher, not a student, not a union member, just a taxpayer! I don't and cannot afford to add one more dollar to my school taxes. Let them do what needs to be done. You can blame the last superintendent for all the BS that is happening now. Sometimes you cannot unring a bell!

I will be the first to admit that there are administrators in the district that are not doing the jobs they are being paid to do. However, if you look at the amount that our district pays per student, we are far below the state average. We are also far below average when you look at the percentage of the budget we spend on administration. The problem with Utica schools and most of the other school districts in central NY is that we are consistently under funded by the state. While we are fighting to keep needed programs such as full-day kindergarten, districts on Long Island are worried about losing state funds for their equestrian teams. How will they feed and board the horse if NYS keeps cutting their funding. These districts are spending upwards of $15,000 per year, per student. Utica is one of the only districts in New York that has an increasing student population. Why are we getting less money for more students every year? I’m sure you can find things to complain about as far as school district personnel but that doesn’t excuse the state from their responsibilities to our district.

We were bamboozled by the state as far as the lottery is concerned. We were led to believe that this would be additional money that would go toward education. In truth, the lottery money was used to replace money from the general fund that was already going for this purpose. This freed up education funds to be used elsewhere by the state. Not one extra dollar went toward education. It was basically a game of Three Card Monte that the state played in order to get the lottery approved by the general public.

Actually big jimbo willis is the one who made cuts and then he left, so you can no blame that on karam. Willis screwed the district then left high and dry

They are using teachers as a smoke screen to hide the real problem. They have been in debt much longer then this economic crisis has been going on. Not to mention there have been numerous times when money for projects have come up missing.

Who runs the homebound program? Could save A LOT of money eliminating that waste of a position. People have been abusing it for years. The people never even go and still get paid, because the scumbag parents don't want nobody in their home while they smoke crack. They just sign the paperwork and keep it moving. It should be looked into. Even some random check ups to see if these "teachers" are there when they say they are! Wasted money exploited by people that know the loopholes, yet the first people to bitch about cuts. Crooks!

If I were still the School Board President we would have a surplus of money instead of the debt and mis-management that exists now.

Streamline teaching and cut administrators. Simplify teaching goals, create life teaching programs that teach skill set development in school. The truth is we already know what to do, but don't have the courage to do it. China and other nations are already doing it.

We need more STEM and Arts charter schools. That's how young experts are created.

What about your director of Security or whatever Francos title is. Indicted on 24 Felonies - pled guilty to 12 Misdemeanors. Retired from the police department and now works full time (or should I say paid to work full time)on the school district payroll.

You have to remember that the suckholes and family will never lose their jobs, it will always be the people we actually need in the schools. The best thing that could happen to the utica school district if for the state to come in and take it over, get rid of the board, the superintendant, all the rest of the bullshit administrators, assistant principals and assistant department heads.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Taurus

Get involved in financial transactions at your peril under today's Lunar Eclipse, because certain people will use them as a stick to beat you with. For instance, if you ask someone to lend you money they'll either make you feel guilty about it or dredge up all sorts of past instances when their trust was betrayed. You would also be well advised to avoid any show of possessiveness or jealousy, even if you feel it, unless you truly don't care about the disastrous outcome.
