Boo Hoo join the club. How about a part time second shift job? Husband works from 8-5, spouse works from 6-12. No day care expenses. This is my and my wife's situation right now and has been the same way for 3 years. Day care was costing too much so she made the switch to 2nd shift. All these women in this article have are excuses, boo hoo have pity for us.

You must be anal retentive in your demeanor because you have some hum drum 8-5 job that you can't support your family on and it sounds like you have no plans to better yourself.

Like mothers are the ONLY ONES who feel the market crash?

Can you GET any more sexist in your 'reporting'?

They weren't BORN mothers, were they?

I think the poor chumps paying the alimony are feeling it MOST OF ALL,
don't you?

Why don't you do a story on THEM?

As she feels being home to raise her children is the most important thing....let me ask a few questions...

Do they have 2 cars? If so...why...you don't need a second car to raise children.

How big is her wardrobe? Don't need tons of clothes to raise children.

Can you simply plan meals a few days in advance and have your husband stop by the store on his way home to pick up the things you need to complete it?

How many TV's are in the house?

We all spend so much on things we call necessities that in reality are luxuries. If raising your children is the most important thing....and I agree it is...learn to recognize the difference between necessity and luxury.

You should save a few more $$$ and cancel your Internet connection.

I can't believe all the hate from these posters. You should direct your anger at the cause not the symptom.

There are billions of people on the planet. The species wont end if you don't have kids.

Its time to reward the people that chose to have a tubal ligation or vasectomys when they are young.

I guess I'm a DINK but we're far far far from wealthy. Wasn't our choice not to have children either.

Sounds like you got your reward - you are now the center of your small little universe.

Then, we can reward everyone who gets a nose job for making us a prettier place to live!!!!

I have no hate or anger towards these folks. My point is that if you make the choice to be a stay at home parent...you need to look at your entire lifestyle as it all is affected by that choice.
My mother stayed home to be with us children, we had one car, she walked to the store with us in tow over a mile away if she needed something for dinner or sent one of us as we got older. We had a single TV and she and Dad knew what we watched...after homework was done. She did not have a closet full of clothes that rivaled someone who was working. She planned meals on a weekly basis and they included what to do with leftovers.
This was the reality for most everyone for years and years. So I'm not sure what cause you are talking about. Its called reality.
I admire people willing to do this for their children in todays day and age. But to hear them complain about the "hardships" listed in the article....sry....I don't get it.

Growing up, my family made the same choice - but there were opportunities then that don't exist now. Our entire extended family was tied, in some direct or indirect way, to the automotive industry.

Those opportunities are gone.

We've (me, wife) been lucky enough to make the same choice. But, we've also got a very large number of friends and family who now have to have both incomes to just get by. They CAN'T make that choice.

Our kid's generation will be the first in the history of our country who can't easily see how their lives will be better than their parent's.

We all carp about the symptoms but are afraid to treat the disease. If you aren't a Joe + Jane Paycheck, bless you, but there are an inordinate amount of people joining the Paycheck's family every day, and their upward view gets very diminished, and all the "bootstrapping" in the world won't fix that bite of reality.

I see that this is an unpopular concept, however, I agree. My husband and I just had this conversation last night on where we would have been had I "stayed home" 30 years ago and would it have changed so much the outcome of our children.

Um....I did not assume anything. I asked questions. I will say I am presuming they have 2 cars based upon her comment about running to the store to get items needed for dinner.

Perhaps if you took the time to comprehend my post instead of assuming what I said your comment would have had value.

You need two cars in today's world. We have two, bought them used for under $10grand. Nothing fancy. As for TV's, toys and clothes (household stuff)(even a swingset); we got alot of them free off Freecycle. As for the hubby stopping to pick up groceries on the way home, I object. First of all, my hubby cannot get what is 'only on a list'. Our food budget would skyrocket. Secondly, you are saying mom is to never leave the home. How cruel a suggestion.

First off....you do not "need" two cars. Sorry...no matter how you spin it...just not true.
Glad to here you are taking advantage of the programs to help people save money. I do that as well.

As far as your hubby's spending habits...guess he needs to understand your budget. Make sure he knows the bills and budget. Its called communication.

And where do I day a mother can never leave the home? Just because I state you don't need a second car? Wow...thats a huge jump.
