1 But won't it be ironic if the cancer recurs and the kid tells the doctors to get lost? They won't be able to do a thing about it if he's 18 or over. |

3 Right and this is Rocky. Daniel Hauser might, and I pray not, be dead before his 18th birthday. I only wish Daniel's parents had maintained their resolve to leave the country to pursue alternative methods of dealing with the cancer. The American (capitalist) way of dealing with any issue is to see how much money you can bleed out of it. Steve McQueen and numerous others sought help outside the USA. Not because the FDA refused to allow certain medicine, but because the greedyass doctors couldn't finaggle a new Porcshe or mountain home out of the deal. You're right Natasha, someone is suspect in this matter, but it is not Daniel's parents. As for the judge, he should parade his peacock ass around the courtyard so everyone knows he's boss. |

2 Regarding the above statement by Daniel's mother, and other attributed to her in the past (not to mention the fact that Daniel is illiterate after being home-schooled by her), is she mentally challenged? I'm not asking to be mean, I am serious. |

News flash Steve McQueen died. |

1 Are you implying he wouldn't have died had he sought more treatment in the US? |
||||
Actually, nothing was going to save him. Read up. |

1 My thoughts exactly. |

Steve would have taken the chemo if it would have saved him. Steve didn't have the good odds the kid has. I suspect the advisors around Steve might have been a bit more educated. |

Minn. Statute 120A.22 states, in part:
Subd. 10. Requirements for instructors. A person who is providing instruction to a child must meet at least one of the following requirements:(1) hold a valid Minnesota teaching license in the field and for the grade level taught; (2) be directly supervised by a person holding a valid Minnesota teaching license; (3) successfully complete a teacher competency examination; (4) provide instruction in a school that is accredited by an accrediting agency, recognized according to section 123B.445, or recognized by the commissioner; (5) hold a baccalaureate degree; or (6) be the parent of a child who is assessed according to the procedures in subdivision 11. Any person providing instruction in a public school must meet the requirements of clause (1). Subd. 11. Assessment of performance.(a) Each year the performance of every child who is not enrolled in a public school must be assessed using a nationally norm-referenced standardized achievement examination. The superintendent of the district in which the child receives instruction and the person in charge of the child's instruction must agree about the specific examination to be used and the administration and location of the examination. Under this statute, Ms. Hauser would not be labelled "mentally challenged." I would also question whether Daniel is "illiterate."
