I definately think you thinking is way more evolved than most. I don't really think it will ever be an adopted policy. I feel making something like this legal would encourage nurses to kill those they didn't want to fool with. But, as far as making it legal, what's gonna be done about it. Think about it...if you kill yourself, it's not like you can be punished for the crime, huh? I just think it is really sad that anyone would be living in any situation where they feel that no life at all is better than the one they have.

Hello wrote: <quoted text> That's pretty pathetic. Why can't they make cuts for things that need to be cut out. Like these young girls who have kids just to get welfare and refuse to work. I personally know girls who have done this. But something important like the nursing homes??? These people didn't ask to get sick. Nor did they ask to get stuck in these places. I also understand that they are greatly understaffed. But I hate to think about them thinking of it as just a job or taking their frusterations out on the older people who are really unhappy anyway. I had a great grandmother in the nursing home and when we would go visit her EVERY time we or anyone would leave she almost always would lay down first and turn her face toward the wall and was crying when we left. I was just a little kid - but I remember that so well. If they did that then they would not have an excuse for raising our taxes AGAIN.

A great piece of filmwork and future telling IMO. I always theorized that the perfect American way of life ended with the Bicentennial. Do the research and I'm sure many will have to agree. What are you saying??? We should allow or even encourage elderly people to commit suicide to help with the over population problem? Surely not. I agree with the other poster that told you to pop one in your *butt*. Maybe we should encourage this activity in stupid people. If you want to curb the population problem we need to do males and females both like we do dogs...get 'em fixed til they can't keep having babies. No one should ever suggest a person in a nursing home should be encouraged or permitted to end their life just because things are a little tough.

China has been preparing for the futre for a long time. The US needs to wake up. Imagine welfare in 30 years ... 60 years ... 120 years. I'm telling you now. Are you going to miss your welfare check or something/ If you don't like the USA, go on to China now. This post is about the sorry care that our senior citizens are receiving in most of the nursing homes, not how many people there are anywhere. The elderly have as much right, if not more, to be here as anyone and they deserve better care. If I had a choice of getting rid of some people, it would be the scumbags who rob, rape and beat the elderly and the ones who shoot our policeman.

My mother resided at HillCrest West for almost 2yrs and received EXCELLENT CARE! I am employed with another facility and witness compassionate, caring people doing their jobs daily. It is back-breaking and low-paying work but we do it because we care and 90% of the residents families don't.

I have heard nothing but bad things about serene manor I no several people who work there and are still there plus I have been there several times visiting. By what I understand the patients that go there temporary don't get to leave they over medicate them keep them drugged so they don't care if they go home or not they give them drugs they don't need making them think they need it telling them as long as they need to take that medicine they need to be kept there so they can be watched because the owners want to pocket the money they get. The workers ( alot of them but not all ) steal patients clothes, or anything else they see they want. Patients have had their T.V.'s stole radios books. They even go through the things that is donated to the nursing home patients and take what they want. The patients hardly ever see anything that is brought in for them. They are mistreated not being cleaned up, food trays being brought in the rooms and left nobody staying to help them when some of them can not even feed themselves. The money that they are supposed to get to get a coke or something with they are not getting. They tell that each patient gets $30.00 a month to do with what they want I will be the 1st to tell you they do not get it. It doesn't matter if that patient gets a check for $400.00 0r $4000.00 a month $30.00 is still all they get if that. A couple of the nurses there are stealing out of the medicine that is supposed to be given to the patients and selling it as well as taking it themselves they have been caught shooting up liquid morphene and nothing has been done about it.The male workers have been known to have raped several of the patients both male and female and holding back on giving them their snuff, cig., etc... unless they do something for them. Its really sad I would not treat a dog the way those poor old people get treated. Workers drink, smoke pot as well as crack, on the company grounds I think that is a disgrace. WHY ISN'T THE STATE DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT THERE ARE LAW SUITS PENDING AND EVERYTHING SO WHY ISN'T ANYTHING BEING DONE THAT SHOWS WHAT KIND SYSTEM WE HAVE.The families of these patients need to pay attention don't any of them care at all are they that anxious to get rid of them. It should be enough for them to change there minds just walking in the door. They have big water roaches every where plus the place stinks very bad. The people who own it should be made to live there and receive the same care they are letting their employee's give the patients instead of in there big nice house that those poor little patients are paying for with there checks every month and doing without themselves.

I have a living will. It states I am never to be put in a nursing home, even if it means death, and even if it's just for a short time to get so-called physical therapy, which people never get at a nursing home.

What she's trying to say is that a murder could be covered up as "assisted suicide" if a caretaker decides he or she is tired of caring for an elderly person. If an elderly person wants to commit suicide on their own, that's one thing. But, assisted suicide is another. The way some of these nursing homes are managed, I would imagine there would be many cases of "assisted suicide" that weren't truly that.

If something were to happen to you - for ex. if you had a stroke (and I hope this NEVER happens) but if it did and you were not able to take care of yourself but you were not near death if there was no family I don't know if they would still honor those wishes. They would have to do something and killing you would not be an option. Although I do understand what you are saying...I feel the same way - I would rather just go ahead and die as to go to a nursing home.

I called a few friends, who can do something if they want to but most don't really get on board until it happens to them or theirs. We will wait and see. How about getting lots of friends and even strangers involved? We could all start making visits, at random, to these places and if you see something, call the police, abuse is abuse. I would probably be arrested to, because if I saw someone abusing an elderly and helpless person, I would pick up any thing I could get my hands on and beat the h--- out of them. I could care less about going to jail for it.

I actually followed the law just like I did for LPN and RN. If having a genuine lifelong love of geriatrics, ensuring residents are turned, fed, dried, have activites that are meaniful makes me evil so be it.If wanting staff to come to work and actually work makes me evil so be it. Correction to agency: NO agency has been in Hillcrest for 6 weeks and none at North for 9 weeks. We have an incredible rewards program that rewards Licensed and CNA's for attendance competence, and willing attitudes. We pay better for LTC experience then any facility in Knoxville Retention is at an all time high. The first 3 months of this year North saw an all time low turnover of 13%! What facility can compete with that? North was surveyed the exact same week as West we had a great survey actually one of the best in Hillcrest North history. We do not have odors actually haven't in many years. If you do not work at West you should not speak evil of it as you really do not know the circumstances of the survey. If you left Hillcrest for greener pastures why write nasty stuff now? You say you left on a good note really? A blog is a great place to hide and slander no one wins or loses just waste precious time you will never get back. If you have the strength to make a positive difference do that it will get you farther nad help the resident's that need help. LTC is under a different survey approach not just at Hillcrest but everywhere. Nursing homes are a hard place to live, I challenge you to get over it and put your energy into making a positive difference for LTC residents. Don't just sit behind a computer screen and write fiction make a difference. I worked for Hillcrest West had anywhere from 24 - 26 patients and I am A C.N.A. with 37yrs. experience and there is no way you can give that many patients the care they need when you have to make a round every 2 hrs. Nobody works together. And it is not this good place that you make it out to be.

I have been told that something will be done, but I will believe it when I see it. It is a shame that anyone has to spend their last days on this earth in a living hell hole.
