It's great if you like inbreeding,Oxycontin, and trailer trash. Think Hee-Haw, but a little more backwards. Better than Maynardville, helluva lot better than those assh@#%^& in Middlesboro, KY! Everytime I see a KY tag I mistake it for a Disabled Driver Plate!
Really, There's a divide between the haves and have nots. You either have a McMansion or a tin box Giles trailer. So stay away.Move to Knoxville. Look for properties on Rutledge Pike or Magnolia Avenue. Remember the words of Al Bundy: "Nothin' says lovin' like marrying your cousin." |

1 My Husband is darker than beige.. and Personally..the place we are moving in... another person that is darker than beige is living there at this moment.. while I agree that most of the population are racist.. that is anywhere in the tri city areas.. so.. u cant judge where u move on it. I think its beautiful, peaceful, and stress relieving. |

I moved to Tazewell about 4 years ago, and let me tell you, I love it.
I moved from Ann Arbor, Michigan BTW. Don;t let all the negative posts affect you, we need more positive people moving to Tazewell, and the negative people leaving. It's a quiet area, with friendlt folks, beautiful scenery, and afforable cost of living. I hope to see you and your husband in town soon! David |
any work up that way? |

Lie down with dogs, rise up with fleas. The folks who are complaining about corruption and drugs are usually the main ones involved in it. |

I hope you have a job already before you move because you will not get a job due to your spouses color. If you have children they will be discriminated in all aspects of life. The crude and unusual punishment that you and your family will endure is almost to much for a person to endure. If you have family there good luck they also will endure your pains. I live here due to my spouse is from here and they are even the problem. As for living here there is a lot of nice views and outdoors to enjoy. Golf, hunting, sports and the outings are at the lake. Education is that of a small town. Politics does not work for the good of the community which you see in alot of small towns. Everyone is all about me because of you have to know someone to get anywhere and that is only if a family member doesn't want what you want. Here it is not what you know but who. As for the drugs it is readily available to anyone who chooses to fortake in it as it is anywhere. Church is a big part in the community but it is just to see who has the most expensive outfit on. It is not old time religion because I have been searching for one of those church since I have been here. I also would like to be a part of organization that doesn't discriminate against others and volunter my services and be able to enjoy it. It is always raising money but no benefits ever come from them to better the community or facilities. It would be nice to see people from outside to help change the community to utilize the scenery of a enjoyable small town. It has alot of potential if people would be open for suggestions and ideas to make it better.

I have to say, I don't live in Tazewell, but do live in the county. About the only difference between the 2 is that Taz has city officals and the county doesn't. I moved here from Middlesboro over 25 years ago and have loved it here. For the past few years, I have considered moving. This county used to be peaceful and you could leave your doors unlocked and be gone for a week at a time and not worry. Now, it is like every night when you hear your dogs bark, you wonder if someone is trying to steal from you. Sure, there are many good people in the area, but with the current drug and employment problems, many have left. I agree, there are drugs in every community, if you want them. There is just a higher amount in this area (per capita) than in the city because of low wages. The problem is, with the lack of good paying jobs, most of the younger folks have turned to drugs...making, using and selling. If you were fresh out of school and had your choice between working fast food at $6/hr and making $1000/wk selling drugs, what do you think they will pick? Drugs have become a way of life here because of the lack of jobs. The bad thing about drug users is that once hooked, they will steal, cheat, lie, or even kill when they need their fix.
As far as church, I have to agree with going to see who has the most expensive clothing. Many members have quit going to hear the Word, but instead, go to be accepted in the community and catch up on the gossip. If you miss going to church a week or 2, don't worry. You can find most of the members at the beer store during the week anyways, but if they see you, they will hide their beer and tell you how bad it is to drink. What bothers me is the double standard to see how high (excuse the pun) you can get in your church, only to get out, chase your women, drive drunk/high, or backstab other people. As for living here, I have to say, nature and the scenery are beautiful and housing is affordable. This is a great place for retirement, if you have many acres and live away from everyone. If you plan to move here to work, forget it. If England's or DTR closed down, the sidewalks would have to be rolled up at night to keep from being stolen. |

AMEN! I could almost say 'ditto' to your reply, except that my husband and I retired to New Tazewell instead of working! We had the deer, raccoons, squirrels and rabbits in our yard; peace and quiet, lake at our doorstep, beautiful view, low taxes, wonderful people (I don't mind rednecks; guess I have a little myself), great police (who got to my house in 5 minutes and I was 15 minutes from town), great EMTs who did the same thing, and on, and on, and on. Corruption? Drugs? Sure, but I have more where I live now. Health problems hit my husband and me at the same time, and we had to have help. If not, and he was still living, we would be there still. As it is, I bought a camper and still stay by the lake all summer. So, it's according to what you want: peaceful, quiet, beautiful homelife or big city life. But you can have both. Take my advice: MOVE! |

I moved here 3 years ago, live in a nice sub-division,not a mansion by far,but not a Giles tin can. I work here,Live here,Play here. The people I have come into contact with are easy to talk to.I have not seen any signs of ALL that crime. Drugs are every where....but in saying that.........they are EVERY WHERE.it don't matter where you live. I like living here. go ahead and move here....just remember if you look for trash, trash is what you will find.
