I am almost (99%) sure, the fireman in this picture, saved my life, when my mother made a call for help, at the Horton/Winthrop Ave. Projects, early Nov. 1956!

I was mistaken on the date...was Oct. or Nov. 1955...All N.R.F.D. responded as well most all of lower Westchester Co., professional and voulenteer depts. responded or in route or on stand by, to my mother's request for asisstance for me. Look at the records...there never was before or since, that many fire fighters, on or at a specific sceen, until 9/11, decades latter! I owe my life to the local firefighters, and those of the surrounding communities that came when asked...this is a "lost to history" story, that must be told! |

My family lived at 8 Beechwood at the time of this fire .I was just over 2 years old.This firemens photo reminds me of stories that my mother told me about the happenings of that night .The stoic,heroic,strength of this mans face in near perfect profile is truly remarkable. From someone who was there that night - belated thanks to this gentlemen and his comrades.
