I've lived in New Roads for 31 years. My parents are both from NR, and my wife and her parents are all from NR. I thought this would be a good website to hear intelligent discussion about issues relating to the town. However, I must say that what goes on in here is some of the pettiest arguing and name calling I've ever heard. Almost like a bunch of 4th grade girls on the playground. People come on here and bitch and moan about the state of the parish. Well it's so plainly obvious to me now where the problem lies -- in the class of the citizens. I will go back to my little corner of NR now and hope my life never crosses with most of you again.
I don't agree the problems here are "in the class of the citizens". I see big problems with corruption in the justice system here. Especially with our family court system where a hearing officer has way too much control over people's lives. And I've heard at least one judge say he will go with what she decides, no matter what. What if she's legally wrong? Shouldn't a judge review her findings if they are challenged? Women in this town are getting stomped on in regard to custodial and support issues because this hearing officer is an advocate for Father's rights. It's wrong, it's corrupt, and something needs to change with this. If our judges are too lazy to get involved with family court issues, we need an elected judge just for that purpose.
