I read the article in the Idaho Statesman Sunday on New Plymouth and thought how short it was compared to the real history. New Plymouth has a lot going for it and I believe it should do its own promoting. A lot of people and business's are hurt by the "recession" depression -what ever, but I see New Plymouth as a stand out during these times. New plymouth has a unique history, city lay out, and bright citizens who can help promote even more.
New Plymouth has a rare situation where there are TWO entrys from the freeway, so if a tourist misses one off ramp - there is another! I believe if the citizens got together they could brainstorm and create a working plan to recoup business that was lost 40 years ago from old highway 30 - some of you remember. One or two RV parks, motel, fruit stands, repair shops, antique shops, used shops, and who knows what else. The key I think is to get the State Of Idaho Transportation Department to "know" you are a historical site and to put up a sign and the usual GAS-HOTEL-FOOD-RV PARK signs. With this information on either end of town and some advertising I believe interested tourist may stop. I think you can do it. |
