I am a Paramus resident and I always look forward to a quiet Sunday! I vote to keep this Blue Law until forever.

Gov. Christie has no heart and does not fully understand why the people of New Jersey elected him in the first place. He will probably tour the state and wreck havoc with everyone he will meet. Not a nice guy, in my opinion.

Sunday has turned into the noisiest, busiest day of the week. I think the whole country should be under blue laws. Every thing closed, except for the pharmacy. Malls, stores, diners, bars, museums, movies, everything. No sporting events. You can't cut your lawn at 8:00 on Sunday morning. Nothing that disturbs the peace. And I mean nothing. Then you would see people going to church, having real Sunday dinners, getting to know their neighbors, and their own families. ---America has turned Sunday into a FREE FOR ALL for whatever anybody wants to do. No matter what. It has got to change.

Before the mass influx of technology ( and the increase in population & immigration) people did actually talk to one another, people sat on porches after dinner and listened to "fireside chats" on the radio - people went to dances & malt shops & nite clubs and in general enjoyed being part of the mainstream population. All that is gone when small town America died. They say everything happens in cycles that repeat themselves over time so maybe sometime in the distant future but we will never see it again. The Blue Laws keep a little sanity in busy Bergen County. Paramus is a beautiful suburban town and its residents would like a little break on Sunday which used to be a peaceful day. The governor should acknowledge this. Why don't we use this wonderful "influx of technology" Brad mentioned and shop online on Sundays if you need to shop so badly? It's time for a return to a little sanity.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the blue laws!! One of the reason I live in Bergen County, NJ.
Thank God for keeping Sunday a day of rest for everyone! No need to worry about working on Sunday when we could spend time with family, attend church and free from traffic, pollution and everything else!

Right on pal we have to keep the blue laws because if we dont they will have to hire more cops and the property tax will go up christie sez he is lowering income tax but will this make property taxes go up those that are out of work dont have to pay income tax but still have to pay property tax

I really have to laugh, people from Bergen county are just so full of it.Yes it is nice to have your stores closed so YOU can have your quiet Sunday's,but you do not hessitate to go to Pasaic county to do your shopping on Sunday's.Please, you just walk around with your nose in the air and say "not my town",while you all just go to the other areas to shop. You speak with forked tounge.Whats good for the goose is good for the gander.

What if the extra business taxes gained from the stores opening on Sundays reduces our property taxes? Let's say your tax is currently $15K:$15K * 6 days / 7 days =$12,857 (this is obviously a very superficial formula). Would saving over $2,000/yr justify repealing the Blue Law?

Would saving over $2,000/yr justify repealing the Blue Law? what are you talking about business taxes ? they pay a flat rate property tax if they make more money they keep it your property tax is only 10% lower because of shopping malls theoretically you should pay no property tax becausae of the shopping malls but they keep having reavaluations

Grew up in Paramus always loved the Blue Laws, this way I could drive around town and not sit in bumper to bumper traffic. If I needed anything thats why there is willowbrook. Moved to Passaic County without Blue Laws and it sucked. Now back in Bergen County and remember why I love it here, NO TRAFFIC SUNDAYS....btw, will still go to Willowbrook or Short Hills if I need something!

Repeal Blue Laws its 2012

It's 2012, I work 50-60 hrs a week. If I need something from the hardware store, I have to take my hard earned money, drive 30 minutes, and spend it in another county or worse, in another STATE paying their state taxes. Allowing stores to open would bring in more revenue, creating more jobs. A lot of businesses won't move to Bergen County because they can't ship the last day of the month or quarter if it happens to fall on a Sunday. Many offices buildings are vacant, look around. You want peace and quiet move to Hunterdon county...or PA; even their stores are open on Sunday.
