Why? Did you interview the jurors or prosecutors or defense attorneys?
This young man has problems and his victim had to relive it all over again at trial and now the rest of her life. What did OU do about it? What are they doing to prevent this from happening in the future. Glad my child isn't a student at OU.

Whenever I'm about to engage in carnal relations with a woman, I always ask if it's OK to tape it so there'll be clear evidence that it was consensual. Sooner or later I'm sure I'll meet a woman who agrees to it.

rapists always go free - our society sucks - do you realize how many date rapes, etc. go unreported precisely b/c of verdicts like this one - what woman would want to be humiliated twice (first the rape, then the trial)- time to have higher expectations out of the MEN in this society - step up!

Rape by its nature is a hard crime to prove, because there are no witnesses and lack of consent has to be proven from victim testimony alone. We deal with it far better than we did a few decades ago. It also sounds like this guy is going to prison. Anyone who thinks a few years in prison is a slap on the wrist should spend a week in a closet.

WOW! I feel for the victim. Many girls are raped in college and I hope she has the strength to know that she is not alone. Many young woman have been raped from ages 16-30. It's BS that he got away w/ this. I hope it was all just tampering w/ evidence. I HOPE to God and Jesus that he is indeed an innocent man.

Interesting. A guy I knew in college hooked up with a girl at a party. She said she was drunk but she was more coherrent than he was. She suggest they go back to his room. They stopped in the common area and made out on the couch. She was all over him, grinding her hips on him and whatnot. They finally made their way to his room and had sex.

Word traveled around campus about her exploits and because the guy was a real dork and she was a popular sorority tart, it cast her in a bad light. So she claimed that she must have been drugged and he forced himself on her.

Pressured by her house mother, she filed charges. The guy was arrested and held in jail until his father could post bond. He was kicked out of school while the prosecution made its case.

We were interviewed as witnesses and when we told the investigators that she was the sexual aggressor the cops accused us of covering for our buddy. The thing of it was, none of us liked the guy. He was an annoying jerk.

Eventually the charges were dropped, but his family lacked the finances to sue the girl for making a false accusation. The college made everybody attend a seminar on rape and we were basically told that the guy was still guilty of rape because the girl has been drinking. Maybe that's true, but he was falling down drunk. She all but dragged him to his room. He was clearly more incapacitated than she was. Maybe she was the rapist.

It seems like nobody wants to adhere to the concept of innocent until proven guilty. Especially when it comes to rape. Too often we take women at their word and assume that the ordeal is too traumatic to impose the burden of proof on the alleged victim but doing that makes it far too easy for a spurned lover, a cheating spouse and an embarassed prom queen to cry rape.

Heather, you don't know the facts. I understand your natural inclination to defend her, but she was lying. She fabricated the rape. Yes, they had sex, but it was consensual. They had also done this may times before. She was a woman scorned who was angry that he didn't want her coming to breakfast with his parents and him the morning after a long night of intimacy. They slept together after the rape. She could have left. She didn't. She chose not to, because she had not been raped. I was at the trial and heard everything. He is entirely innocent. You need to understand your facts before you jump to conclusions. I understand that the Dispatch did not do a very thorough job of presenting these details, but know that he is innocent. Think of how his life is forever affected by this. It is so unfortunate for women who are in fact victims of rape when one woman does decide to make a false claim. There were 35 lies and inconsistencies that she told to the police/jury/etc that helped the jury to see that she was not telling the truth. It only takes one for reasonable doubt. Therefore, he was acquitted. Now, he has to try get his life back. Can you imagine what this has been like for him and for his family?

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Cancer

Be careful today Cancer, because your emotions could cloud certain issues as they often to and leave you feeling confused. You should be especially wary of believing what you want to believe, rather than believing the evidence in front of your eyes. It's easy to kid yourself now about someone's motives or reliability, even if deep down you know that you're telling yourself a load of old twaddle.
