I heard it said yesterday- would Henderson Clay, and all the payroll it has made over the years, taxes it paid, ever have existed if the rail was not here? Simple answer- no. It is not about one business that is here, it is about the availability to many opportunities. Today I was told they already have 3 users ready to ship and load on the spur as soon as the purchase is complete. Critter, you are smarter than that. Not just about today. It is about FOREVER. You willing to tell your Grandkids they don't need to have expectations for their town? Read, and EVERY city planner or Economic Development Corp in America will tell you that we just got the deal of the century. That is why your council just voted unanimously, along with your ED board to do this deal. Come on- be objective. If not- be very prepared to be wrong. PS- I notice no one took the opportunity to object publicly to the deal. What- no courage behind your convictions???

I don't disapprove of everything, but I do disapprove of taxing all to benefit a few. When this rail spur is operational and fully funded and 'they' don't come like 'they' were supposed to, then what? Do we get our tax money back? What if all this was just a big joke at HEDCO's expense? After all, we were told that a power plant was coming, however it is not. Not your fault, not my fault, but it is not coming. A lot of people were depending on it. Evidently, some people are depending on the rail spur. If all the businesses that said they were coming don't come, then who will benefit? I think we all know the answer to that.
rail spur is already operational and fully funded. and it is a loan, so you will get your "money back" even if it means ripping it up and selling the steel. keep up...

Oh, no! I have absolutely no courage. We will talk about this in 3 years time. If more than 5 businesses are still using it, I will apologize to one and all. I will expect the same from you if I am right and this was not paid for by many to accommodate the few.

apparently you do not have any grasp of the fees people (industrial base) pay in fees or valuation taxes. (in order to use rail). It is an indisputable fact that industrial base is the bedrock of keeping property taxes low for homeowners and the middle class. If you compared the taxes paid by industry versus homeowners property, you apparently would be shocked. I don't care if 1 person uses it, if it pays for keeping it and keeps the opportunity open. That's the whole point. Apologies are useless, infrastructure to a business community is critical. Just like good schools.

Henderson Clay had trucks leaving out of here daily.
And the Rail-to-nowhere is already paid for by sales Tax.

Which will go down when the Loop is completed.

Why would anybody want ANOTHER power plant in Rusk County?? The only thing another power plant will produce is a few good paying jobs and ALOT more cancer causing pollution. We already have Martin Creek which spews out tons of cancer causing pollution. We have Tenaska that has basically no payroll, but that at least uses cleaner burning gas to produce with. And we also have the wood plant that is going to use the rail. They dont produce power but they do produce alot of CANCER.
Just look at thier smokestack on any given day. For those of you that dont believe just ask around town, or better yet go to the cancer center in Tyler and look at all the people from Rusk County. I hope and pray that everybody in this county will wake up and QUIT accepting a few local jobs over the health of you and your loved ones. Do some research and quit letting any company move here,[regardless of if they use the rail or not] that is going to cause even more cancer in our county. My electric bill doesnt get any smaller no matter how many power plants come to town. My insurance sure seems to get higher though.

Why another plant...JOBS!
Guess what?
We need them.
There is no proof that these plants are causing cancer. This has always been an area of concern.
Even before the "Plants"
We need the jobs.
Especially since our so called Civic Leaders are doing nothing but driving us into debt!

One breath you want jobs and the next breath your against the rail that would help bring jobs. Your obviously nothing but an Idiot!! You speak with a forked tongue. There are plenty of jobs outside of Rusk County. Once again a FEW decent paying jobs and alot of jobs for ILLEGALS is what this county doesnt need. YOU talk about wasting tax payer money. Look around at what kind of people work in these places. ILLEGALS, ILLEGALS, ILLEGALS!!! And if you dont think these places are polluting our surrounding area, you are sadly mistaken. Your name should be "Deep Brown" for how far your head is up your a$$!!!

Yes I want Jobs.
The Rail-to-Nowhere has been dormant for years ...FOR A Reason!
Its not cost-feasible!
Good jobs dont go to illegals.
They cant qualify.
Have you noticed that ALL area schools are dropping in enrollment and classification?
Carthage,Longview,Marshll,Nac, ...why? East TEX is losing people...daily.
5-A Schools are now 4-A,4-A are now 3-A.
And it will continue.
Unless we do something besides spending Tax-Dollars on White-Elephants!
Like the Rail-to-Nowhere,the Loop[to make sure tourist don't spend money here].
Im just trying to make a point.
You are just being Gross.
You sure seem to have anger issues!
I quess you can't post without your true Pathology showing through!

You are flat out lying about the rail being dormant.Read the paper numbskull, the steel is worth more than the loan. Fannin County and Kilgore are spending 5 million to add or preserve rail spurs.(so much for your expert opinion of economic feasability)
The enrollment has been fairly stable, the numbers for classification have changed.(another mislead by shallow blue)
Bypasses do not hurt communities, they save lives and keep TxDOT from installing concrete medians. The medians will KILL businesses and access (more ignorance by DB)
Your points are made out of ignorance

Tour Operator- you are mostly right, I think. But I would say the tourism we do get, is not going to change it's mind and go somewhere else, or get lost and accidentally go by,because we have a loop. If they want to come eat or get gas, they will. The "accidental tourism" theory is crap.

Depot Museum attracted thousands yesterday. I would not call that nothing. And if someone in the area wants food or gas, something tells me they will not take the loop and come get some. Or maybe we could see some new business grow on the new loop.Do you realize how many MORE drive through and never stop, only cause congestion and accidents? Your "pigeon hole 'em" approach went out years ago. Wake up Mr. Van Winkle!

Won't get an answer on that, they are too busy using all the money for the rail. And all their time. HEDCO that is.
