Heard Henderson may be getting a new power plant. Anyone know anything about it and where it will be built

New Power plant...about 2.6 Million for each job created. Wonder what pay scale will be on these jobs? No City Property Taxes collected since it is out of City Limits. How much water will they buy from the City? Do we have it to spare? Plenty of County tax. Are they a Sales Tax Collector or Generator?
Wonder how many scrubbers will be in place to keep the emissions under the limit at the undisclosed location close to 259N and 2276? Sounds like a done deal. Why not release some information? Hope it is profitable for all. |

Henderson, Texas ISP: Henderson, TX |
From KWRD online:
"The $160 million plant is being developed by SunMark Energy LLC, based in Dallas. SunMark will be responsible for payment of bond principal and interest. The plant is expected to use about 400,000 tons per year of otherwise unusable trash wood, relieving local business and Rusk County of potentially costly disposal burdens while generating clean, non-fossil energy, Henderson said." Sounds like they are going to build 'em a good wood fire, and heat some boilers and spin some turbines. I'd be one of those in favor of LOTS of scrubbers. Other than that, sounds good so far. |

Anyone heard anymore on the power plant to be built since it was in the paper a few weeks ago?

where can we find info about plant location, emissions, and decibel levels there should be an application and clean air application that anyone can view. i heard a rumor around 2276 and 259n. hedco did say in longview news journal north of the city limits. that's getting close to my house. i can't help but wonder if it will affect property values in close proximity negatively. hedco is making sure it is away from town--out of city limits. i've looked for a zoning map for rusk county online can't locate yet. i guess residential zone in the country don't matter to city slickers livin' in the subdivisions. henderson does have some nice property east of the prison on the loop @ 259 all that clearcut alford land. the decibel level could be less stringent in that location due to high flow traffic and less residential area.

Rusk County does not have a zoning map and the location of this type of plant is determined by the proximity of electric transmission lines and the availability of cooling water.
If you want to see what one of these plants is like go take a look at the one SH 315 just south of the intersection with FM 840 in the Jumbo community. |

Zoning is not a power counties have in Texas. |
||||
They are buying land on 2276 off of 259 - to the left as you are headed to Kilgore. |

The group, featuring Robert Palmer, was called Power Station; and the current topic is about something that gives you power that runs your computer so you can look like an idiot! |

The artical in the Tyler Paper says this would be a plant that would burn wood left over from saw mills and such, producing 60 mega watts with a claim to power 40,000 homes. Cost of building this is like $160 million dollars. 60 mega watts is really not much power, Martin Lake has three units producing 800 mega watts each. I can hear it now,,,,how dirty coal is but think about a big brush fire, which seems like what you'll have at this plant. Emmission control equipment is about the most expensive part of a power plant. I question if these people can make enough selling 60 mega watts to pay for very advanced controls.
I'm not sure scrap wood is the solution to our energy problems. |

|
Just off the top of my head, but I don't think the emissions from wood scraps would be near as hard to clean as that dirt they burn at MLSES.
|

|
probably another government subsidized venture. what is needed is another unit at martin lake.
