Anyone look at the Illinois School Report Card out today? NLSD 122's scores continue to fall. They have no schools ranked in the top 100 in the state. District-wide their scores are falling. Meanwhile, Lincoln-Way is there in the top 100. Same community-same kids. This slide seems to correlate with the Manville curriculum of Everyday Math with no grades and other standards based feel good "reform" programs. Too bad for Lincoln-Way.These ill-prepared kids are headed their way, but mostly I feel sorry for kids that are being failed by the Sass/Manville regime and their backers.

Did you ever notice how much the teachers are Nelson Ridge and Prairie praise the Everyday Math program? What is up with this? Each teacher I have been in contact with seems to feel this is a great program.

"Feed Up...."?

"FED UP", right?

From the looks of your writing, you must be a cause of at least a couple low scores. Jeesh.

Some folks on another thread have decried posters for criticizing spelling, etc., on here. When you're going to rip the 122 board and superintendent for not coaching kids to do better, however, you need to establish some credibility by not making such gross punctuation, spelling, and structural errors.

Something about glass houses?

It would also be important to teach our children kindness, compassion and understanding. Teaching our children to only focus on errors will not benefit anyone.

Here's the scuttlebutt by school level:

JR. HIGHS
Liberty--> Down
Martino--> Up

4-5-6 CAMPUSES
Bentley--> Down
N. Ridge--> Down
Oakview--> Down
Sp. Cr.--> Down

1-2-3 CAMPUSES
Haines--> Down
N. Pr.--> Up
Sp. Pte.--> Up
Tyler--> Up

Take it from there. If you have a student whose score was not satisfactory or the school was down, raise hell but get something CONSTRUCTIVE done!

ISAT doesn't test for kindness, compassion, and understanding. Try as different thread for that.

Morever, the school of touchy-feely is one reason these test scores aren't as high as they should be.

As well, kindness, compassion, and understanding aren't going to raise test scores. Hard work and perseverance will.

No teachers will rip the program or any program. They know better than to talk negative in front of parents. TRY AGAIN

I did not solicit the information. They voluntarily say how much they love the program! THEY bring it up. It's almost like they are getting paid to promote the program.

I am quite aware of what the ISAT does and does not measure. If you read the post I was referring to "coaching our kids to do better". In my opinion not only does a child need to do well academically, they also need to be respectful, kind and compassionate. This makes for a well-rounded child, which will help him/her be a sucessful adult in ALL aspects of their life. If that approach to raising my children makes me "touchy feely" then so be it.

How you represent yourself and state your opinions is important in how they are received. If you find yourself at a place where you have nothing but criticism and finger-pointing then you have nothing intelligent left to add to the debate and the point of your post (whether valid or not)loses its impact.

I am sure they love the program. It is my understanding that this program is easier for them to teach, unfortunately it does not serve the children very well.

IMO don't tell anyone with the school district who your kids teachers are. They might find themselves R.I.F.ed...

Daily Horoscope for January 3

Aquarius

Try to avoid arguments with your family and friends. You will be less than satisfied with the way things are around you. Keep the peace with your parents. If you are working, the pressure will be on, but after hours the mood really improves! Relax and get enough rest. This will revitalize your energies and let you take advantage of your strokes of genius.
