I heard that the big addition is a bunch of rooms where all of the drunks can rest.

It's a 3 lane bowling alley for members.

They screwed up in their effort to expand the building.

No elevator or stairwell assistance has been installed to help the aging vets and guests get from the first floor to the new second floor.

Have some respect for the veterans! These are the one group of people you should never disrespect! That new structure is an addition to their banquet hall. The old facility was too small. This was a great addition to the Amer Legion! Don't knock the place if you haven't been there. This place is one of the only places in NL you can bring your wife, or buddies to have a few drinks and relax. If you need to rent the hall for a party, what ever it may be,it is a very good deal.Besides all the tv's and juke boxes kind of making it appear as a sports bar,it is very much a club!Majority of what they raise there goes to veterans homes, kids, and soldiers over seas.If you are a veteran and have not joined,or a son of a vateran who served during a conflict, you probably should. This place has a family type atmosphere about it.

With the exception of respect, you all should be ashamed of yourselves.

Why someone would "flag" me for mentioning that there will be no elevator or stair rail apparatus is beyond me. Drive over there and see for yourself. And while you're there say hello to Georgia who's a great gal.

My post had nothing to do with respect and everything to do with the Legion having made a major and costly mistake.

I pass this post @ evening. Its parking lot usually has many cars in it and on weekend evenings it's full.

I can't remember ever seeing any sign out front promoting the occasional pancake breakfast, Friday fish fry, spaghetti dinner like at the VFW post in town.

Is it, instead, the most busy bar in New Lenox?

(And, don't slam me: I'm a proud daughter of a wounded WWII veteran who was an American Legion member until his death.)

Can I, a non-veteran, stop in for a drink? Or do you have to be member (veteran)?

You can stop in there just as you would the VFW.

While you're at it, ask about the elevator.

The old facility didn't have a full kitchen,so you really couldn't cook to have those events. Not sure what plans are now though!Looking like a bar or not, they have to pay the bills somehow,or they will lose their charter.

They fired the manager after 21 years. A customer called his local to report non-union people working in the building. Some how this was her fault!

Thanks, Rich for the info. about the lack of a full kitchen in the original facility. Hopefully with the new addition, there will be some events that welcome community members, beyond the current bar patrons, into the place on occasion in support of a good cause. "... mmmm, pancakes"

To all the negative comments only -- if you knew more about the post you would have your facts straight about the events hosted there, the kitchen facility and the stairs to the upper part of the addition. Funny how people can comment on things they have no idea about.
To those who support the Post - anyone is welcome to come in and have a drink with a great group of people and bartenders.
