Green schools not alone in budget crunch

Full story: Ironton Tribune

The Green Local School District in nearby Scioto County may be the first local district to seek more help from taxpayers to keep the doors open, but there is a good chance it will not be the last.

Ask the sunoco plant for help. You gave them tax abatements to hire locals. They hired out of town people not like Duke Energy who helped the Rock Hill School District. Get smart Green Twp. I will not vote for this, there should be a law passed on the amount of times you vote on this. Look at the amount of money that Sunoco has saved from not paying taxes they can well afford to help. After all they have helped their employees from other areas of the country have a nice paycheck.

Citizen is right on the tax abatements. Our dumba$$ county commissioners, trustees, and school board allowed this to happen! Vote the good ole boys in again dumba$$es. They can't negotiate with CEO s that have twice their IQ! They have proven that. Ask any one of them how much profit has been made by these plants in Green Township? Bet they don't know. How much taxes have been paid?$O

Why is green school district the only school around that didn't get a new or remodeled school? Rock hill is new, ironton is new, symmes valley is new, south point is new, Portsmouth is new, clay is new, why is green not?!?!?!?

Because there is no money! The state picks up a large portion but Green residents have to pay a share. The state says our tax base is HUGE so we should pay more. Problem is we gave all the the new businesses tax abatements. They are NOT paying their share. Also our mini industrial park brings in very little. The government doesn't pay taxes on prisons. Residents are reluctant to raise taxes when others aren't paying.

The State gave Sun Coke a 90% abatement, thenthe county commissioners gave 60% of what was left.Sun Coke then came to school & trustees and you can have this amount, take it or leave it!!!! Now who should we blame? And this is not for a new school, its to pay electric, buy books, or just to pay bills.

The commisioners, trustees and school board agreed to the tax abatement. It is now 100%. If they didn't agree with it they should have made it known instead of saying we might as well sign, it's better than nothing. Who didn't agree? Like to know who stood up for us? True that Sun Coke makes some small "gifts" to the school, but is a pittance, and they are under no obligation to do that. It would be like one of us giving $5. so we wouldn't have to pay $10,000. in taxes!

i will vote for the levy if they clean up some of the waste. the outside of the building grouds is a mess, the gym is a mess everytime i have been to a game. does anyone ever clean these areas. at the games i have seen employes of the school there standing around with keys on there side just watching the game. i seen one the other night that could barely walk. if he is on the payroll you can count me and a lot of other people out for backing the levy. the grass looks awful, all the fields for football, baseball and softtball look like crap. there are issues with some of the teachers as well. they act like they do not want to be there. students have to have tuters to help with there classes. somethings wrong with this picture. clean up the waste and me and a lot of others will back the levy if not forget it.

I don't want to lose our school. I didn't agree with the last levy that included the income tax. But I will vote for this levy. I want my children to graduate from GHS just as I did. I love our school and community! Lets all show our Bobcat pride. We can come together as a community to support and save our school!!! It is our duty, we owe this to our children!!! Come on Bobcats... We can do this!!!!

With property values decreasing they want to sneak a tax levy in to raise our property taxes? Think when your property values begin going back up the tax burden will climb back up even more. I have not even seen a budget the school has disclosed? I'm a firm
Believer of cutting expenses before increasing revenue! I will NOT vote in favor of this.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Gemini

It's a red letter day for relationships under the Lunar Eclipse in your house of significant others, because you're facing some important and far-reaching changes to some of them. The pressure has been building since the Gemini Solar Eclipse on May 20. f you've known for some time that things aren't working out, you're about to reach a crisis point as becomes obvious that the present situation can't continue much longer. The coming New Moon in Gemini on June 19 will see progress of one kind or another, though this unusual eclipse cycle will have a far-reaching effect. You may have to be cruel to be kind, or more forceful than you would like, in order to get your point across, but do you really have any viable alternative?
