Does the New Castle Police Dept. have a Cold Case Files Depart? We have so many cold cases that have not been solved and maybe today with D@A we can do something.

The people involved in the Supples Cold Blooded Murder, are some of them out of jail and roaming around. Scaggs, Jackson and others?
Keep us up to date. This is public information.

That little Gargacz girl and her sitter. Reopen that case. Get help from some agencies that as a hobby get together and look over cases. As a newspaper you should be able to find out who to talk to.

I completely agree with you, Jane Smith!
But I highly doubt that you will hear of any agencies that as a hobby get together and look over cases around here!!

Maybe if we can compile a list, we can give it to authorities and remind them these cases should be reopened or re-investigated.

Showed in the spotlight news once in a while might jot someones conscience or memory. As long as a case is kept "cold" and quiet it stands way less a chance of being solved for the victims and their families!

I found a few...

1989
Joyce Ann Heskett

1999
Yvonne Richards

2000
Jada Bell McKnight

2005
Mandy Mclaren/Tammie Mullins

2007
Leah Kaye Roche

2007
Sueann Louise Best
*case has been removed but I'm not sure exactly what that means especially since I couldn't find anything on her case being solved!

Please add to this list if you know of any more unsolved or cold cases from New Castle area.

If everyone would compile list of names they compiled, we can find out the latest update.

The New Castle News Can and Should provide the names, they have them and the police Dept. can be interviewed
as to how up to date they are. There are many more and if we had two news papers in our city, Im sure one of them would get on the ball.

Jane you can add this to your list. On December 26, 1988, Bryce Tompkins was found lying face down in the Neshannock Creek, killed by a large- caliber weapon fired twice into his back. This homicide is still unsolved.

Good idea Maureen!!!

Thank you M Geaorge! Another one so sad!

I will continue to work on a compiled list with every one's help. I am also willing to volunteer to seek some help from the New Castle newspaper/s.

I'll add any new unsolved victims names to the compiled list so this way we can keep track of them easier and on the same "page" here.

Anyone finds out an update on any name from our unsolved "Cold Case" list please enter the info you have found so we can keep our list up to date.

We can copy and paste any new names to this list. We'll try to keep them in a yearly manner..more organized this way.

*the details of these cases may not be posted with their names but I am definitely keeping track of all and any details I read about.

Sueann Brest was killed by a man that lived on Long Avenue. He was arrested and is in jail now. I can't recall his name though. Also I heard there was another man involved in her death but he was from Detroit and went back there and was never named in the case. Also Mandy Mclaren and Tammy Mullins were killed by a man who grew up about 2 miles from where the bodies were found and about a mile from where Julie Rae Conway was found but he hung himself shortly before he was to be arrested on a rape of a New Castle prostitute a couple years ago.

I've sent out some emails. Seems PA doesn't have enough Cold Case Squads. In fact, the only one for certain is with Phillie, PA.

I really can't see why New Castle Police Authorities can't organize one! A Cold Case Team would be a definite plus!!

There's tons of "Training" programs throughout for Police, retired police, Sheriffs, Detectives, Special units, Scientists, forensic professionals, etc,..
to increase the level of awareness and to educate police administrators and detectives in the available techniques used to investigate and solve "cold cases."

They can even get paid for handling unsolved/cold cases and can work them part time if retired and would like to choose to.

I've been reading many Government funding programs that help aid the costs for a Team/Squad!!

New Castle Police..build your team, give them a space for an office..somewhere..anywhere, "they" take the training, and let the funds and solving the unsolved begin!!

If other States and Cities can do this then why can't New Castle?

Maybe there would be Police Officers from New Castle that would be interested in this!

*anyway..I've sent my list of concerns and some questions to a few but I started with..
International Homicide Investigators Association.
Eastern Regional Director- Mike Corrado.

Lets see what we get back!

*is anyone else as interested or serious about this as me? Jane Smith, you still out there?
Work with me woman, lol!

Jane here is another homicide to add to your list. November 7, 1975, 37 year old Beverly Ann Withers and 4 year old Melanie Gargasz they were both shot. To my knowledge no one has been arrested and no one held accountable.
Some of the cases are with the state police in Neshannock. This might be a good starting point in New Castle.

I am currently working on the cold case homicide for one, Yvonne Richards. If anyone out in New Castle has any information or a web site with an age ast time of murder or pictures, I would be extremely thankful. I currently have some evidence that may bring this case off the cold files list but I do not want to jump the gun for this may be the last chance I can help this case bnefore moving on.

William, google pa unsolved crimes there is a website listing all unsolved crimes in pa hers is listed there. Also Detective Smith "Smitty" from the New Castle police was working that case. Although I don't know if he is retired now or not. He is a very nice man with alot of integrity and I am sure if you are also in Law Enforcement I am sure he would work with you on this case.

If the investigating officers were to talk to you OFF THE RECORD they would tell you that most of the homicides are solved. Solving a homicide and proving it in court are two different things.
If you can't prove it in court and arrest them. Then you've used your only opportunity to bring them to justice.

Melanie was my cousin and her death tore our family apart. Year after year my grandparents prayed that the murderer would be caught. As the youngest cousin she was the "pest". Now I always try to think twice about what I say and how I treat people. For my Aunt and Uncle's sakes I hope someone finds out what happened even if it can't be tried in a coourt of law.

i am so interested in the cold cases. i totally agree about a cold case squad should be established here. we have so many. i am also interested in any information on michael r. tackett. currently charged with raping a real estate agent here. he has been charged with other rapes, however, the victims would not testify against him. so of course that allowed him to do it all over again. i hope this time he will be put away for a very long time. any information on this evil man will be appreciated. i feel he may have connections to some of our other rapes and even murders in our town and surrounding local areas. youngstown is also interested in this man.

I have read these posts on here and sat back and said nothing. I have known Michael Tackett for many years, and recently I visited with him and told him what was being said on here about him. This guy has never showed anything but respect for me and my family. He is a good honest person that has been targeted. And I honestly believe that. He showed me all of the paperwork regarding the case currently against him. And I was amazed at how they could charge him in this crime. First in the other 2 cases from before he proved that both women that accused him were friends and conspired together. He went to trial and proved he did not do the crime he was accused of. Some people say they wouldn't testify against him but that was not the case he was aquitted by a jury in the courts.
Also the case about the real estate agent. I seen the paperwork with my own two eyes. What the media didn't publish in the news was that the description of the person that really did this crime was not Tackett. She described a 6 foot tall 200lb man with a beard. Tackett is not 6 feet tall and is closer to 275lbs. and didn't have a beard. She also initially picked a convicted sex offender from the Meghans Law website, But Tackett has never been listed on that website. Also the police and media didn't publish that when they processed the crime scene they found shoe prints and fingerprints that were not Tackett's. They found nothing at all that would implicate him in this case. The only thing that put him in this investigation was a Neshannock twp police officer who was told by the state police not to get involved in the investigation, but he went against what they said and showed her a picture of Tackett outside of a lineup. And preceded to tell her what he had been arrested for previously. Then he admitted in court that he either lost or threw away the picture he used. Which is illegal. This is another case of the police practicing illegal and unethical investigating. They also never mentioned that the DNA from the crime scene didn't match Tackett either.

It amazes me at how they can find DNA, Fingerprints and shoe prints at the crime scene, That all point to someone else as the person that committed this crime but they still arrest Tackett. It makes no sense to me. Like I said I have been friends with Mike for many years and I truly believe he didn't do this crime. He showed me the case file and I know he will be aquitted of this crime too. Our police need to step up and do their job in an efficient and ethical way in order to catch the correct people that commit these crimes. Until they do the real rapists and murderers will be out there looking for their next victim. People we can't believe everything that the media puts out there. They only publish what they want and it is never the whole story. After finding all of this info out first hand and seeing it in black and white it scares me to think that they can do this to anyone without a shred of evidence. Mike gave me permission to post all of this info on here. He said that the whole story needs to be out there and he has tried to contact the newspapers but they won't return his calls so he can tell his side of this story.

Megan, please read my post above about they guy who hung himself. He was from Savannah road and I believe he went to school with your Aunt Julie. He is believed to have been responsible for the death of the 2 prostitutes they found on route 168 in 2005 and they thought that he may have been the person that killed Julie also. The police never released any of this info to the public. For what reason I don't know.

Sueann Louise Brest was killed by Gaylord Spell (formerly of Long Avenue). He was convicted of Murder in the First Degree and Abuse of a Corpse.
He was sentenced to Death on the murder charge and given 1 to 2 years on the other charge. His case is currently on appeal and he is on Death Row.

There was also supposed to be another man who was a Drug Dealer from Detroit involved with her death also, but he went back to Detroit and the police and DA have never looked into his involvement. He must have had some money to pay to keep his name out of it.

due process,i am sorry but i disagree, michael tackett is another ted bundy,i just posted a new thread about him then i found this, how ironic is that.this man needs to stay in jail forever.every time he gets out,a rape and or rape/murder occurs.when hes locked up,women are safe,at least from him.and these horrifying acts quit.he has threatened people into not testifying from what i hear and its worked.somehow hes been lucky so far.but he will get his day if not now, next,or soon.
and please dont forget about the dryfuse murders, hank went to jail but was let out for not doing it.
i think i remember a cousin stopping there from ohio and bonnie telling someone on the phone she had to go.then there was someone elses blood found on the door that didnt match any ones there, was this cousin ever checked for his dna blood match on the door?why did this gruesome murder of these 4 people go unsolved, including 3 little girls.
it would be nice if all of these could be solved.
