I actually play in this league. This team is/was one of the teams we play against. Luckily, my team has yet to play them, but we've witnessed their horrendous behavior more than once. Constant screaming and bickering and complaining. They are dirty players that don't understand that this isn't the Jamaican street soccer team, it's a fun recreational county summer soccer league. It has nothing to do with their race, their attitudes and behavior are the problems.

Gen Eisenhower had a pit, the RCA Victor dog was a pit, the dog on Our Gang was a pit. It isn't the animal, it is the owner. In this case, it isn't because he is an African-American, it is because of the way he was raised. But unfortunately he probably does need to be euthanized.

Have been off & on listening to CNN Headline News this afternoon -- so far nothing about this story -- mostly repetitive Don Imus stories, critiques about his snide, possibly racist comments the other day; teenage girls pregnancy pact; few other stories over & over again. Media's political correctness (not covering this story)is making me barf. Guess it's too hot to address.

Jones' mother, Patsy Walter, said she would defend her son.

There is no excuse for what he did. WE though have to look into what the officals do all the time. I play in the delaware soccer tournaments too, and the referee's there (not all) are horrible at the job they do. We pay to play in this, and we come to have a fun game, a good game, a competitive game, but most times the referees take that away. They need to recieve training about soccer, the rules the whole nine yards.
And on a side note if you are a referee and your son is playing in the game you are about to call, run the lines dont be the middle guy and then be bias.
The referee there create situations that should never be created. They are not just innocent.
Soccer is a real pasionate game and the referees need to call if fair and correct.

Post #89, Jones, I'm glad your first sentence is "There is no excuse for what he did." After that, you've somewhat lost my respect. I'm a Referee and have been for 7 years. I'm the highest level locally permitted by the United State Soccer Federation. The next level is State Referee, and due to my two small children at home, I cannot make the commitment to give the time.
You play in a local county rec league. You get what you get. The ref is a field condition, just like a sprinkler head or patch of dirt that should be grass which makes the ball take a horrid bounce, perhaps even into the back of the net you're defending for the half. That's life.
Your referees, no matter how horrible, do not deserve to be physically assaulted over bad calls. Sorry. They don't. Referees can only react to whatever is in front of them that they think they see. Some see it differently. There are 11 players per side on a soccer field so you have the potential for 22 different opinions in a given situation (not counting the bench personnel and substitutes). It's only the referee's opinion that counts. And it's not easy to swallow sometimes. I've had games go straight to hell. I've made calls where afterwards I've questioned myself as to what exactly I was thinking. But this is never acceptable behavior under any circumstance.
Although for the record: I consider myself pretty decent at my craft, and even I have had a ball thrown at my head a few years ago. The gentleman that did it? Fined several hundred dollars and banned for a year. That's why I continue to referee for that league. The punishment was commensurate to the crime.
I hope the local league bans this individual for life. He has no business polluting a rec league with his savage behavior. And I hope he is banned from playing in any league affiliated with the state soccer association which gives this rec league its sanctioning.
And for the rest of you: race has not a DAMNED thing to do with this argument. Stop it.
