Observing Martin Luther King Day Locally

i don't think that it's fair that black people has a holiday to celebrate the way they do. why don't white people or hispanics or any other race have a special holiday? i seen a group of black people marching down the street yesterday and if white people were to do that, it would be hollered that it was racist and then it would be banned! we don't owe the black people ANYTHING! it's NOT our fault that they were slaves! it's black people's fault bc a black man sold them into slavery. it's just our fault that they were set free!

The only reason blacks were slaves is because they were sold? How dumb are you, the buyer is just as guilty.

How would you like to see your daddy, son and brother tortured as you watch your mother, little daughter and sister raped by hundreds of men from other races?

Admit it crybaby, these people were and still are at the back of the burner in society, give it a rest, racist!

You are an ignorant person. First, many White presidents ARE honored with a holiday. HELLO!!!!
Second, making a slave of ANY human being for ANY reason is just sick and wrong. You need to check yourself, get an education, and get a clue!!

how can you sit there and say that i'm a racist? i'm not a racist nor am i stupid.(stupid is as stupid does!) maybe the buyer is just as guilty! i don't care! it's the fact that when i was in the 8th grade sitting in ga history, we were learning about slavery. first of all, they only taught you about black people being slaves. they never mentioned any other races being slaves...read the Bible!... and here white people were, being stared at like we did something wrong. i asked the teacher why he wasn't going to teach us that a black man sold them into slavery and to teach us that both whites AND blacks were guilty for the transition. he told me to hush bc we were not going to get into it. and let me tell you something else, COLORED PEOPLE ARE NOT PUT ON THE BACKBURNER! they have it made!(you know how to starve a black person? put his foodstamps under his workboots!) that joke is a prime example of how people are around here. i'm not a racist person. i have a lot of black friends. more black people know me around here than white people do. i used to work at a nursing home and my most favorite lady was a 103 year old black lady. just don't call names bc that is childish. i just think that every race should have a holiday to celebrate their history, not just the blacks. God bless mlk, jr for what he has done. he deserves to be commended. abraham lincoln should be too! it is cruel to have slaves, yes! look at the mexicans! would you work in a field from sun up to past sun down for 5.15 an hour? it look like they are being treated as slaves too! not just the blacks were slaves. i have no pity for any of them thank you very much!

I do not know how you can read my comments and deem them racist. I complemented King and suggested he was a great American and according to my thinking everyone is allowed to go to a MLK Day Parade. One of the comments suggested that MLK Day is a black holiday, I disagreed with that and suggested that King was a great American and MLK day is a holiday for all Americans. I would hope you could have an open mind and re read my comments. I thank you.

Come on, black people can be just as racist as any white person, now someone tell me thats a lie.If we keep looking back how can we go forward.I think any holiday in America should be for all the people.Were not all the great people Americans,[ that is the one thing we all have in common].

The Lord must surely look out for old folks and FOOLS. Especially the fool that authored the above post. Comparing Black slavery to Mexicans making 5.15 an hour. Imagine how many Black slaves could have purchased their own freedom if they had been paid 5.15 and hour by their slave masters. You sir/maam, are a first class idiot.

MLK day is not just a black holiday. He was not about slavery--that happened so long ago. He and many others are about Civil Rights for everyone, including women and other minorities. Please read up on what your trying to talk about, get the facts. Read some of his speaches. MLK was a bigger man that Sharpton and Jackson. He was one to respect.

Blacks were slaves after they were defeated in African tribal warfare. The ones who put up a fight were killed by the winning black tribe. The ones who kissed the feet of their conquerers were allowed to live and serve the black masters. Farming the crops, preparing the food, providing sex on demand, waiting on the black masters hand and foot. These slaves were frequently sold to Europeans who had need of such willing and well trained workers. This is where the bulk of slaves came from. Other slaves were children sold by their black parents to European traders for European goods. Sometimes the black slave traders were rounded up and made to be slaves themselves. The Portugese and the Spanish were the biggest slave transporters. Also the French, Dutch, and English. Early slaveowners were outnumbered by their slaves 2000 to 1. Later years found some common people who owned one or two slaves. Most white people never owned slaves. The Cherokee and Creek Indians owned thousands of slaves and took many of them with them to Oklahoma.----- All Americans today are better off today because of slavery. Slavery was a managed workforce that grew the American economy. Much public works projects were built by slave labor. Government buildings, churches, universities, etc were built by slave labor and land donated by slaveowners or done at reduced cost. Roads, bridges, railroads, and various infrastructure survives today for the good of all. Slaves were compensated with food, housing, clothing, medical care, old age security, job training, etc. Slaveowners went mostly bankrupt with the end of slavery. When land was worth pennies an acre and slaves were worth hundreds of dollars each, the slaveowners' worth was in slaves. The free slaves went to work after slavery for pennies a day. The infrastructure wealth survived. The labor wealth disappeared.
